I'm not so sure, If Pokemon has all of Ingress's POIs, I'd be able to reach 4 pokestops from my desk at work (with another 2 possibilities that I'll submit when I get to level 10). This would not only make it quite hard to click on nearby mons, it would create a balance issue as I would never need to resupply or make inventory decisions. Fixing the overabundance of items for me by reducing pokestop output would make the game even worse for players in areas with very few pokestops.
That is a loaded statement.... people shouldnt be editing locations based on S2 cells. Portals should not be moved from an accurate spot to adjust the cell location.
If spawns were not so heavily tied to Pokestops it would also help the cause. However, overall yes while some locations like yours would hit 4 spots at once, others would benefit as it would add much needed spots. You're opinion is very valid some spots would be "overloaded" while others would still be lacking.
Multiple people have asked the total honcho @NC to close this thread or do something about it, and he clearly has not. He has a reason to leave it be for whatever reason.
The only plausible reason I can come up with is that they're keeping "Flagged" stats for users, and trying to maximize some's scores before rolling out a new forum "feature". Presumably not for awarding them a "controversial" badge.
Probably because they are looking for input. The point of if you consider opr as beta is learning where things need to be adjusted even for you guys. Redacted ended and we should have feedback.
You are literally telling people it’s okay to break the rules.
submissions should always be placed on the POI, or within the bounds of the POI(ball fields playgrounds etc not necessarily on top of the center of the POI but touching some part of it)
Edits should never be done to move something off from the correct location. It’s already correct don’t move it just to create a POI
Accept a Nomination within OPR as long as it’s within a couple of feet, no where does it say submit incorrectly or edit incorrectly. But approve if it’s within a couple of feet. Defining a couple of feet for this situation might be a matter of opinion.
1 and 2 are not debatable things, no where does it say that is acceptable. So don’t tell people to cheat...
Didn't tell people to cheat. Just stating a fact in opr currently, that it's allowed to be, yet you guys say differently... if a portal is allowed to be within a few feet and visibly seen it does not have to be right on it. Example water fountains are allowed if there is side walk access. Well if you can visibly see the poi from a few feet away from the location, then it showed be allowed and not altered by opr reviewers.
Don’t twist is, you said it’s okay to request location edits to move something that’s already in the correct spot. Things shouldn’t be intentionally submitted in the correct spot, and defining a couple of feet will vary by player.
Same for sports fields. The agent is the one creating the location based on the actual picture of the portal. It should be located based on the picture taken. If the agent wanted it on the field than they could take that view of it for the picture. But they could submit a portal edit to relocate them. It would be a great way for people to learn what is a great portal location. A lot of editing could occur as a starting point for opr access. Maybe have to spend 30 days on edits to see what makes some great portals. Portal edits could be a great teaching tool. Like complete some of them to gain access to review in some way. I think after a couple hundred edits they will see what a quality portal is though.
Creating a photo sphere while doing the portal edits, Would give niantic more updated data on the current ones. Having pokemon players find bad portals and fixing them isn't a bad idea as another task. It would help eliminate fake portals as well. Could also help clear the prp issue up by enforcing it.
No a PortaI should be ON the POI not in the general area. This is hugely important to agents when they are trying to take out shielded or guarded portals. No it doesn't have to be dead centre but e.g. A gazebo the portal should be ON the gazebo even if it's to one side
No it doesn't, water fountains already proved this. They are allowed to be taken near by as long as they can be seen from a foot access viewing. Otherwise a fountain you would have to be in the middle of the water to destroy.
2. Can the portal be safely accessed if the marker was in the right real world location?"
Just because they have allowed some leniency of a few feet in the reviewing process because the street maps can skew perception DOES NOT mean you get to make up things to support your cheating. NOTHING you posted says being able to view the POI from the marker makes it acceptable.
I can view a fountain spout in the middle of a lake from a nearby pathway but putting the marker on the path to make it accessible is expressly what Niantic says is not allowed and the candidate should be rejected.
That doesn't mean you should deliberately put the pin a few feet off the real world location. We try to strive for accuracy, but the impreciseness of the GPS receivers means that we will never get it on target most of the time. Satellite imagery may be off. Street views images are typically off. And according to GPS.gov, cellphones can be off by as much as 16 feet, hence the phrase "GPS drift". But that doesn't mean that placing or moving the marker 16 ft. from the real world location is appropriate.
I have told you this before and I will tell you again in the hopes that eventually you will understand.
That guideline is not telling you to it ok to misplace a submission, that is for reviewing purposes ONLY, NOT WHEN SUBMITTING A POI.
You are told at the time of submission to place the pin as accurately as possible, you are NOT told to place the pin on a sidewalk if the POI is not on the sidewalk.
You are requested and required to make submissions accurately, how is it hard for you to understand this.

It would cut down on the location edits as a result though.

I came back to look at this thread today, and there were 70+ new comments that were either
Please for the love of sanity close this thread @NianticCasey
Portals are allowed if they are visible and a few feet from the poi. As long as that's met a minor adjustment if another portal is allowed.

Where did “water fountains” prove you can submit not on the portal?
AMA's.
Put the exact quote you are referring to in here for all to see..

Can something get worse if it was just non-existent from the start?
Fair point
If the fountain has a foot access it is allowed per the answer. Just cant be a fountain with no sidewalks or crosswalks.
If you can touch it without standing in the water then it's valid. If it's in the middle of a lake it's invalid no matter where you put the pin.
You CANNOT put the pin in a false location to get it through.
A pin is allowed to be a few feet away per niantic rules on location that is written.
The criteria for location is fine. Accessible is the problem, no sidewalks no portal...
IN YOUR OWN SCREENSHOT:
"1. Is the location marker in the accurate spot?
2. Can the portal be safely accessed if the marker was in the right real world location?"

No you are incorrect. It does say you can have it near the sidewalk and no sidewalk is a rejection.
