Playing in sunlight on Android with color inversion (under accessibility mode)

WAY easier to see portals/links/glyphs than the default dark mode.

  • I keep forgetting to try this. I’ll have to give it a shot and report back.

For what it’s worth, iOS devices also have this option.

You can add it to your options on your drop-down menu.

I've been intermittently playing in reversed colours for 4 years. Apart from anything else, it helps to reduce screen burn. (My last phone had a permanent COMM in the bottom right and OPS at the top right. This one doesn't.) On my Samsung S5 I've been able to bind this function to triple-press on the hardware home button.

And yes, I have to agree that in Ingress Prime the reversed colours make the map massively more visible in bright sunlight - especially the XM - and even the neutral portals stand out. Oddly though, I find the black portal titles in the key carousel rather more difficult to read than the normal white ones in cases where the portal photo doesn't offer much contrast.

  • A quick test shows a bit of a mixed bag, at least on iOS. Much easier to see portals, including neutrals, but I found it impossible to distinguish ENL portals from RES (neutrals are identifiably different, which is useful). I’m currently playing under a BAF, which may have some effect on this problem.

Even if not being under a field has the same problem, I can see cases where I’d use this. Check faction ownership of an area in shade/good visibility, make a mental plan of which portals need to be taken out, then switch to inverted colors for running around in the sun.

I am living in Java, Indonesia, just a few degrees south of equator with plenty of sunshine daily and never had an issue with portal visibility. XM visibility used to be an issue, but since that update (I forgot which was it) it becomes highly visible.

This thread made me try inverting the colors while playing Prime, and I have to say that damn it looks beautiful. Unfortunately, it actually made neutral portals harder to see for me. Same for link, easier to notice without inverting the colors.

    So a disagreement from me.
