Has OPR stalled? I clearly am getting valid submissions to vote on but....

Something seems off in OPR at least for my area I continually get valid candidates to vote on that should be easy agreements went from 500 to 700 agreements a week to now struggling to even get 200 a week and my status has not changed. Seems like we don't have agents voting or niantic is now reviewing portals before they are approved after agents give the go ahead for adding. Not mention now I have submissions 80+ days old pending the system is starting to fail once again and my area does not have pogo submissions looks like the prioritization of portal submissions is destroying urban cell voting once again as well.

Comments

  • In my area it's always been about a week for approvals. Sometimes more sometimes less. When I submit a batch of 14 nominations normally I get first approval in 5-7 days then they start trickling in and are normally almost all done by the time I get my next 14. Last batch I didn't get my first approval until day 13 and now we're on day 15 with 4/14 approved. I can't complain because that seems to be much better than most people it seems but is outside of the norm.

  • I still have outstanding submissions that are over a year old that I'm waiting on in my area. I find that it's harder to sit down and process submissions in OPR when the weather has been so nice.

Approvals have slowed down tremendously in AM02-KILO-07.

  • I only felt motivated to open OPR when I was in the cabin in the woods. I find reviewing submissions from smaller towns that have less portals more rewarding. Having bonus location set there does not have same effect. There were far fewer submissions from smaller communities when at home. A simple backlog is more likely to be cause of your delay than portal prioritization.

  • I'm still getting 1 upgrade every 36-48 hours, but my nominations that are upgraded are now taking about 5-7 days to get "yay" or "nay" when they used to be 12 hours to 2 days, with the older ones getting the faster response.

AM03-GOLF-07 here and it is an urban cell that is anchored by the southern half of the DFW metro.

just an update today finally had 2 more portals go live in AM03-GOLF-07 one upgraded and one non-upgrade. The upgrade only took about 4 hours to process althought it was submitted in august.

  • Seems to me that there is a natural ebb and flow to OPR and submissions. When a submitter is new, he/she will undoubtedly spend all subs and usually get a lot of rejections and/or long leads time, leading to hesitation or even stopping for all but the most dedicated.. Huge influx of sub-bar nominations may deter some reviewers - other (like myself and i suspect OP) thrive, getting agreements left and right. Summer probably lead to more outdoor activities, meaning more subs. Now with autumn coming, there is simply less submissions to go around. I suspect a low number of reviewers can keep OPR alive, except for their own submissions which may not get enough vote with one less reviewer.

In other words, you empty your queue, and still wait for your own.

  • Seems things have slowed down in my area too. Keep in mind that school is back in session. Probably some impact from that.

@kholman1, "barely 200 a week"? Most for me would be a little less than 70-ish and that was when I was hitting opr hard. How many reviews are you doing average daily?

There is an OPR boycott among many agents right now associated with the recent addition of Anomaly fees and doubling of Store prices without reciprocal return for Agents.

I have personally stopped doing OPR not because of the boycott, but because NIA refuses to fix a problem with OPR causing Cooldowns on my account after the first or second review whenever I use my AT&T home internet connection. "Try slowing down" or "contact your Internet provider" are not the solutions. NIA's algorithm is the problem; way too many false positives if I am carefully and thoroughly reviewing 1 portal every 90 seconds.

I do a hundred or more at a time while connected to my ATT and never get a cooldown.

  • I just figured it was broken Again after barely working for years.

    Or losing portal submissions.

  • @HubiePenguin,

Thanks for sharing the info. I had no idea. Looks like Pokemon Go Hub is also reporting on this too, and, funnily enough, is citing this thread.

I am in an urban area. I was getting about 7 upgrades a week at one point recently I was doing 100+ votes a day. I think I cleaned up my agreement ratio that helped. I was just noticing irregularities that likely have nothing to do with the supposed protest. I was seeing other agents submissions 5 to 7 days after they entered the system when they were submitted when it would usually take 2. I also have been having upgrades take 5 to 7 days now. Yesterday an upgrade took 24 hours to complete and a normal non-upgrade submission came back approved so I don't know if it was just a dry spell week for OPR. I do think the pogo hub report is rubbish. The counter for OPR has dipped slightly the last two weeks and is creeping back up to the current normal of 70-80K per side a day.

  • Amusing how that PokemonGo Hub writer wrote up a whole rant-y article (admits as much at the end) based pretty much on this thread and piecemeal-ed what is basically an opinion piece as if it were a massive boycott by Ingress agents all over (there is none), and also to suit the call for the Pandora's box to be opened and allow Pokemon Go player to be able to approve their own submissions.

I agree, other than rural and under-served areas with little to no stops/gyms.. the entitled expectation of some Pokemon Go Trainers for more gyms/stops just for their convenience just conveniently ignores the fact that new mechanics and gameplay is probably needed there to keep things interesting for them, though to be fair, Niantic has done a much better job here than they have had with Ingress re: new mechanics, gameplay elements and events in daily play.

That's PGH for you. They are notorious for sensationalizing things and perpetuating fake news.

Taking things back to the original subject, OPR has definitely slowed down. Before 1-Star Reasons and Upgrades, my submissions would take anywhere from 5-8 months to get approved on average. When they added 1-Star reasons, My submissions would take 2-4 months. After they added Upgrades, it basically cleared the queue for my area and submissions took 1-2 weeks. Now it's back to 2-4 months and only getting longer as more and more portals are being submitted (especially with the REDACTED & Prime having 14 each) .

This is why I wish Niantic would have some kind of OPR reviewing events every so often. Players love events (reason problems excluded), gets them out and doing stuff. I asked in the Andrew Krug AMAs about some kind of OPR events to help get reviewers reviewing again but it doesn't seem to be something anyone is putting thought into over there right now.

  • I wrote on PogoHub and they deleted my comment. But they deleted from here...

Stop spreading fake news pogohub, there is no a boycott, just to provide an example, on my cell, my natal state, we managed to get over 40 portals alive in this past week, the best ever, i managed to get 15 approved, most if mine turned into pogo items, i believe i created about 8 gyms. So there is no a boycott.

Yo the creator of this post, you may feel it that way but there are many factors that can delay OPR decistions, new players that reached L10, trash submitions, many people that used their redacted submitions because its about to die, any way, there is no boycott going on lol

thank you. I am not happy to see they took my discussion thread and I am considering asking them to delete the post. I asked a question why I had a slow down and they ran with it. In last 24 hours I got 3 portals approved locally and a fellow agent got one approved as well. Also my agreements went back up again not taking days to get upgrades anymore. I guess it was just a weird downturn week and a half probably agents taking a rest from voting.

I have gotten 230 or so portals approved in less than a year. I still have about 80-90 pending. I took advantage of the 28 per two weeks with prime and redacted both having submissions. The only issue I have is the fact how Niantic will hold submissions for areas and make sure one submission has a x amount of votes before they release another along with the last in first out policy that puts older submissions at a disadvantage in the voting priority. Eh Go Hub is entitled. I just was asking a question as last year urban areas were having submissions take months and now we are back to square one with upgrades not being enough of an incentive to go along with pogo subs slowing down some areas where they have been enabled.

  • Read also the Go Hub. Haven't they heard about "fact checking"? Let's hope that Niantic will not fall for that.

But yeah, OPR is time consuming.

Nope, they were one of the main sources of the "Don't press OK" hoax with raid bosses that the Silph Road had disproven. On top of that, they have taken many of Silph Road's investigations into how Pokemon Go work and published it as their own. Ethical "journalism" isn't one of their strong points.

  • There is now a similar thread on the sliph road. Before everyone assumes that the only reason people who were pogo players took up ingress was to submit for pokestops. I took it up before submissions were allowed in the US because it was getting boring. Also, I didn't stop at 12.

More to answer the original question: not all reviewers live in a urban area so reviewing a large percentage of submissions in an area which is comparatively speaking a portal paradise is less than inspiring.(I have a suburan play area). My view is somewhat clouded by not being really able to play Wizards as much as I would like which is related to less pois nearby. Also, multi-accounters drive 20-30 minutes to gold new gyms that I really want for extra balls/potions doesn't help. Adding new stuff in nearby urban areas didn't slow it down any. I don't mind reviewing urban submissions but I just won't review as much.

  • @kholman1 You should definitely contact GoHub. Loots of future portal submitters read that site, and they could do well actually speaking to real Ingress players instead of snipping clickbait-y info. The "Guide" they have for pokestop submission could use some input.

  • If you guys can check the comments on PogoHub lol, thats why they should not get OPR, many players break ToS and its something normal, they think, if I live on a remote area I have the right to do this(multi account), its ok to do this, and so on, what would happen to portal network with that? They will approve EVERYTHING, and will affect our score since we will be reviewing good.

Yes, there is a test for OPR, buts its a single and unique test, you can pass it, they can pass it, and start 5 starring trash submitions, they are more, they will approve everything.

  • Niantic should reduce the amount of agreeances required for an Upgrade. Trying to get 100 takes an absurd amount of time..... only to get a rejection because non-locals have no clue how to OPR.

  • I didn't play redacted so I can't speak of any difference between time periods, but I can say that I have about 120-150 pending submissions as far back as May. The only ones that have been finished in OPR are the ones I got upgraded. Some are even in areas that would make them the only portal for a few miles.

  • About a 50 day turnaround in my region. Sometimes 20ish.
