Black Niantic Logo Screen does not disable UI input

Bug: Tilting the phone upside down shows a black screen with a Niantic logo. When this is displayed, all UI actions are still executed.
User Expectation: When the black screen is shown, all inputs should be ignored. The assumption is that this screen is shown when the user is not expected to interact with the game in order to preserve battery life.
Repro rate: 100%
Repro steps:
1) Launch Ingress
2) Whilst on the world map, take note of the orientation of the map. (Take a screenshot using the side buttons.)
3) Turn the phone upside down so that the black screen appears.
4) Swipe across the screen with a finger, as if to rotate the world map.
5) Turn the phone the right way up so that the world map displays correctly. Note that the orientation of the map has changed because user input was still executed. (Take another screenshot of the map orientation and compare orientation to the first screenshot).
Alternate repro steps:
1) Launch Ingress
2) Whilst on the world map, take note of where a portal is on screen.
3) Turn the phone upside down so that the black screen appears.
4) Tap on the screen at the location the portal displayed prior to the black screen. Note that haptic feedback is felt.
5) Turn the phone the right way up so. Note that the game displays the portal selection screen.
