New AP display cheapens AP precision landings

One of the more important motivating factors in Ingress is getting AP (or other stats) to "nice" numbers. A lot of that has been taken away by the new style of displaying AP, where any number of AP is not unique anymore, but a frequently recurring occurrence.

These screenshots show equal AP standings, but you can't tell without some mental calculations and you can't tell from Prime's new display that one is halfway toward L16 or has reached a globally significant number at all.

Please reconsider.

One has to admit that the display in Redacted is inconsistent. The number text shows the total numbers for the next level while the progress bar shows the relative progress from the current to the next level.

It's obvious that this can be confusing for users and that Niantic therefore wanted to make the display more consistent.

In the previous Prime versions, they did that by changing the progress bar to show the absolute progress to the next level. Many agents complained about that and asked for the progress bar to show relative progress. So, they changed both the progress bar and the text display to relative values.

You do still have the displayed Lifetime AP to try to hit special numbers. In your case, after having reached L16 again, try to reach 160 million lifetime AP before recursing again. You will then have some parity with your next recursion journey and will reach L16 again at 200 million lifetime.

Who complained about that? Because what I've seen are people complaining about the exact opposite, that the overall progress to the next level is no longer shown. It also took up far less space on the scanner map and agent profile.

It's been on the Issue Tracking spreadsheet for ages.

It's also the way it worked in Redacted, and I never heard anyone complaining that it was wrong.

  • Why not have two AP bars, absolute and relative? It wouldn't even take too much screen space.

I complained on this the other day in a support ticket.

Told that this is the way it is now.

Complained again that it is very confusing

    No response.

It needs to return back to the way it was, this change was completely unnecessary, and undesirable

I agree, this is the worst change in new version of Prime.
