STOP IT with so much Crossfaction stuff!

Some crossfaction is okay - first saturdays, an event or two, mission days. But Niantic has gone WAY over the top. Everything has to be crossfaction now and I'm sick and tired of it.
Ingress is a strategy game - a battle between 2 factions. That's what we play, what we like, and what we want to play. This ill-advised attempt to turn both factions into friends and make them one big group is ruining the game.
You destroyed our scanner with the new prime graphics, now you are destroying the actual game play.
People who want to be touchy-feely, feel-good friends can go play potter or pogo. Kindly get your hands off our ingress game play and toss any more crossfaction forced events into the trash.

cross faction special events don't change the normal game-play of faction against faction. You don't have to participate in these. I think they are good for the game, good for the community. It's fun to have different game-play options like this.
So much this
I was just mulling over the fact that NIA's other games have no competitive team element and wondering if all the cross-faction events are an attempt to push Ingress in the same direction. I tried both PoGo and WU long enough to realize they weren't for me, because I'm not a fan of **** for the end of fighting against a bunch of animated opponents.
Faction competition makes Ingress unique, and uniquely interesting, in NIA's stable. I'd hate to see the game keep sliding in a kumbaya direction.
Well said.
Speak for yourself. I'm glad to see Niantic trying to defuse some of the heavy tribalism that's evolved in the game. This will be a good stress test for shards in Prime, and give the Prime-only newer players a chance to experience shards without the madness that global shards usually brings.
i agree that Xfac with shards is really a wrong way imo... keep it at FS, mission days and that but not this....
Chacun à son goût. Lots of people like xfac gatherings, and that's fine. Xfac competitions are a little further away from the original spirit of Ingress, but near as I can tell, they do no real harm (except indirectly by imposing penalties on all players if wildly optimistic goals aren't met cough Aurora cough).
What does concern me is the possibility that NIA really wants to scale back or even ultimately eliminate factional competition. It's probably a lot easier from their standpoint to manage a game in which players are only battling animated NPCs and not each other; they'd see that from PoGo and HPWU.
And that possibility concerns me, because faction competition is by far the biggest part of a game I really like.
actually it changes the gameplay, in my town, the two factions have alliance and they have forfeit attacking farms from each faction, as well not interrupt somebody building, however not everything is happyness because if you dont follow this...everybody get mad at you even your own faction sometimes
Wow, you must be a fun local opponent to have.
Time to turn Ingress into a Pokemon Go.
I think shard's portals will be like dark pokestops, a surprise 🤦🏻♂️
I'm going to start making more friends just to spite you specifically.
I like this event already because "xfac shards" has been used as an absurd punchline so many times.
If xfac shards can happen, anything can happen.
We've been fine with calvinball over the years. Even us old-school pvp players from early beta can live with fs, even though we call it cheating/wintrading and advocate against it, because in the early days it was against the spirit of having 2 factions btteling about world domination. But xf shards, **** plz has this game become? I don't play Pokemon or Harry Potter for a reason. Why does Niantic keep killing what once was their best game?
Sometimes, in order to save something, you have to destroy it.
Shards aren't new 🤦♂️
It's like nobody saw the Nemesis video...
This event? It seems fine to me. It mixes things up a little.
Overall though, the day this game isn't mostly a war is the day I quit playing beyond portal network contribution. I started to make Pokestops and accidentally fell in love with the game more than PoGo, so I sure hope it doesn't change that way.
It's the current storyline. The researchers of both factions are trapped together. XF is needed as long as this is the case.
Now, as soon as they are free again or maybe earlier, if we only have the opportunity to save only a limited number of them, the conflict between the factions will re-emerge.
Or, it could have been a none xfac shard event to save your own scientists..
The stranglehold and gatekeeping on "the soul of ingress" is the only thing holding it back. We all have different views on what Ingress means to us and I respect that.
I love competition... I thrive on it. I don't think we need to mantain absolute division at all times in order to keep competition pure. Shards are not a sacred cow... They have always been subject to calvinball.
PvP isn't going away. The only thing that is certain... That has ever been certain; is calvinball. Calvinball comes for us all my pretty... And your little shards too.
Then it's not shards. It's stards lite.
It's like passing off Johnny Walker as Glenlivet and it's just wrong.
A video explaining the shared goal and "why" doesn't make it less concerning that the goal is a strong deviation from the competitive history of Ingress.
Why do all these negative nancy's believe they can speak for the entire community. Prime is "universally" hated, now x-fac events are "universally" unwanted....
I'm fine with Niantic's current course. I'm sure the'll bring back competative shards at some point. There's no obligation to partake in any of this.
Thank you. Very well put.
One, love the event option and yeah I'm still mulling over what to do with it, but there are still two teams clearly forming on this and the best part is you get to pick a side. So it's not Enl v Res, it's now shards v anti shards. For anyone that says this isn't still competitive, they just haven't figured out that it is, and if you want to oppose this, start rallying your troops now. The pro-shard teams are forming, how are the anti-shard teams doing? I see this as a really interesting fight, with all new chances for meta game warfare. This is an expansion of the games strategic side not a diminishment. Extremely unpredictable, and very spy v spy if both sides make a game of it.
The last global shards lasted three months. This is only two weeks. Scoring shards will be much more difficult in this short time.
Nah, both ENL and RES are going to be working towards the same goal. No one wants 75% portal decay.
I've seen quite a few players speak up about wanting the decay to level the local field more quickly.
Nonsense. Just have the other faction drop those durable links for you and vice versa.
