My pet theory is that if you have done a boost recharge which resulted in the "out of XM" message (in which the screen is deliberately glitchy to give the impression that the scanner is malfunctioning) then it doesn't properly reset the display when you collect more XM, so some of the glitches remain.

I cleared the data, installed Ingress again. still the same. on some portals it is better on others it is worse.
