Portals should be more visible

I need to clearly see the portals.

In Prime, the portals are little skinny things that are hard to see. At first, they were also impossible to click on, that's been mostly fixed.

I've taken a lot of side-by-side screenshots, and I think the effect is very, very clear. I've tried playing prime, and I have to focus very hard on my phone and what I'm doing. I can't just glance at my phone.

Apparently I'm too new to this forum to post links, I have a side-by-side. Maybe someone else can post it.

Visual appeal is certainly one of the reasons anyone plays a game. Ease of play keeps me in the game longer.

    Totally agree - I cant see them very good either. :(

    i “struggle” with all the dynamic elements on the map :/

    very frustrating for my eyes to play prime overall - ingress I never had problems with. Could have phone on really low brightness. but prime :/ can’t be playing like this for long :;(

    Different level portals have different sizes, with higher level portals being larger. I previously suggested making the current L2/L3 portal size the smallest, because unclaimed and L1 portals are a little too small for my eyes: https://community.ingress.com/en/discussion/3373/thoughts-on-the-main-map-view-in-v2-29-2.

  • Totally agree. After XM were made more visible now it's hard to distinguish them from a neutral portal. I actually missed one just now because of this.

  • I agree with this request. Specially the neutral portals are next to invisible. Please fix this

    xm still looks bad and hardly visible on my samsung phone :(

    The flashy illuminated translucency makes it almost unplayable for long periods of time,.. to the point it causes eye discomfort,... it literally makes you squint.. Niantic thought they'd make it pretty... but they made a shining purple unicorn walking across a rainbow with the sun in the background. It is just plain nasty. Also the flow is all wrong. Almost on the 7th year in and not sure if this is the nail in the coffin.

    Disagree, I find I have next to no issues with the visibility of portals at any zoom level.


    What is a problem, minor problem, is portals are a particle effect as opposed to a mesh model.

    This is what people are mostly complaining about, but have not been very specific.


    Not generally an issue in low portal density areas, but a very dense area, significantly slows down the game due to the GPU in mobile processors unable to render all those particle effects. @NianticBrian

  • Agree. Portals are invisible. I played at night a month ago and that was the first time I noticed the xm blobs....

    Please let us choose white background so I can play the game at daytime.

  • Agree. Also, make the selection area of an item smaller. If I’ve obviously clicked on a portal, I don’t want to see a an option to pick portal A and portal B, if A and B aren’t that close to one another to begin with. It’s better than it was with the initial Prime release, but it can still delay a player’s actions.


    Also, there appear to be two cursors indicating direction of travel. Provide a compass rose and mark the northernmost reso slot, like in Redacted. This will help folks who’ve relied on the compass to not get lost while at anomalies.
