2.30.2 Improved XM Visibility. Really?
Samsung S10+, lighting dynamics right to the top, XM flashes up briefly during the pulse then disappears almost completely (nearly visible in a darkened room ...).
Am I missing something here?

XM is quite a bit more obvious on my screen then before. (Oppo RX17 Pro)
I have to say the sreenshot on my computer display isn't quite the same then what it looks like on my phone still.
I'm beginning to think this is related to the phone. We've had screenies posted in our local chats that show it highly visible, and yet on mine it appears for about half a second with the pulse then very rapidly fades out to the point where it's as good as invisible. This is all with dynamic lighting enabled and cranked right up.
I've been grumpy about XM visibility for a while, and was really pleased when I heard that it was going to be addressed in the 30.2 update. I honestly thought at one point that it had disappeared from the game - let alone being able to appreciating the rainbow xm for pride, or noticing the blue XM after the Osiris win.
Finally, I thought, Niantic had listened to the complaints. But no, even with max contrast on, it's visible for a moment after the bizarre pulse wave, and then fades into to the ether.
Why is it so hard? Just make it bright and white like it currently is in Redacted! It's one of the most important elements of the game - picking it up so we can recharge things, and using missing patches of xm to see a possible enemy attack. If you want a different look, fine: make it a different shape, give it different movement patterns. I just don't get this insistence on hiding from everyone it by blurring it when it's not hit by the pulse wave in a ridiculous mauve haze. It makes no sense.
@ShimJB
They actually did improve/fix the brightness of XM for me in update 2.29, now with 2.30 XM is darker than it was before update 2.29...
I think the difference in XM brightness between devices is because some people are still running 2.29, I only just got the 2.30 update today on the Android App store after it was announced almost a week ago given Android's delayed update timings.
In my experience the Lighting Dynamics slider makes XM more visible the further left you slide it, so if you have it all the way to the right then I'm not that surprised you can't see the XM.
I'm still not sure what the Lighting Dynamics slider is supposed to do. It seems that some things look better with it on the left and some things look better with it on the right, so picking a position is somewhat tricky!
are u sure u have the latest version ?
These are screenshots of XM nearby on my phone, 2.30.2
1. With lowest lighting dynamics. The map is almost invisible, which cause the XM and portals to be put into highlight.
2. With highest lighting dynamics. The map is very visible, with XM and nearby portals still visible.
3. With lighting dynamics disabled. This is my preferred setting, as it is a good balance between map and portal visibility. The second screenshot is when the map is zoomed out to the max.
I am using Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1.
XM is still nearly invisible on my Galaxy S9+. I can only see it when the "pulse" occurs. Light dynamics have been turned all the way up.
With Prime 2.30.2, XM is much more visible on my device.
Lighting Dynamics is enabled and the slider is all the way to the right.
The lighting dynamics should be turned to the lowest if you want to highlight XM and portals. Can you screenshot when a portal is in your map?
Also, are you sure you're on 2.30.2? I don't want to offend you, but that looks like XM when I'm still using 2.29. It seems to me that 2.30.2 is very slow in distribution - I just only get the update this morning, even though it had been announced for a few days already, so I have this suspicion about people claiming on 2.30.2 without a definitive proof :x
@TheFarix That looks like my S10+ and my wife's S8+ ... very, very hard to see purple flecks regardless of the lighting setting. This definitely looks like it's a device dependent issue as having seen some videos from a couple of locals theirs looks almost as clear as Redacted.
@TropicalJet Definitely 2.30.2 on both mine and my wife's phones, unless the Events button has got there by magic.
Here is the screenshot with the lighting dynamic turned all the way down. XM (on the right of the arrow) is still just as invisible. And yes, it is 2.30.2.
Ok i just checked it looks just as bad as on OPs phone.. i have also s10+ latest prime update and still my xm is no way near visible like on the few pics above here.. i dont get it ? :(
the lightning contrast doesnt seem to change much.. its still looks bad and hard too see :(
and yes im on version 2.30.2 just checked now.. sad a phone like Samsung S10+ and xm is almost invisible still....
I can’t tell the difference on my iPhone 7+ maybe it’s because I have night shift on all the time?
This seems to be a Samsung issue for some reason.. My **** 20 Pro has beautiful XM but my S10+ is almost impossible to see
Android Oppo AX7 running latest release lighting Dynamics at the lowest
And iPhone 7 same setting both running latest release
I first noticed that I had 2.30.2 this morning precisely because the graphical representation of XM suddenly appeared much more distinct. Probably still lacking in bright light/reflections situations, but it is an improvement.
Its better on my Oppo but it's the same or worse in my iPhone 7. See above
It almost sounds like this issue is related to GPU driver variation in how they treat a shader effect.
@AthanSpod That's my guess as well
but why ? samsung uses a good gpu on the newer phones, there is no reason for this to even be a issue, its not like the phone cant handle the render lol..
@mortuus I think it's possibly more a case of higher end phones rendering the XM with a sexeh shader that's not particularly easy to see, but those with less go using something simpler that renders it as nigh on flat white.
iPhone se - can’t see Xm ;/
iPhone 7. XM is basically invisible, as are many other things such as RES-held portals and resonators. The setting makes no difference.
The only time it is briefly visible ingame is during the radar pulse effect which lits it up a bit.
Can confirm that there is a big difference in the visibility of XM for iPhone (not good) and Android (better) visibility of XM in 2.30.2. There is one (partial) exception though - XM sometimes shows up well in remote portal view. But it's inconsistent.
This is normal scanner view
And then this is remote view
@ShimJB Just noticed the same thing on my S10+. Almost invisible in the main view, click on a portal on an alert (these just got pinged by a passing smurf) and there's the XM in all its glory.
