Scanner (still) hangs at the glyph hacking command line
After 15-30 minutes of play, the scanner will intermittently hang at the command line when glyph hacking. I.e. You enter "more," "complex," etc., and the scanner will just sit there displaying the last command entered and not move on to showing the glyph sequence. Entering another command seems to be the only way to break this cycle and get it to move on, although it sometimes takes several entries.
From that point on, it does not do this every time you glyph, but once it starts, it is quite frequent, occurring on ~50% of glyph hacks. Occasionally, even entering new commands doesn't seem to work, and the scanner must be restarted. Upon restart, glyphing works as intended for another 15-30 minutes, then begins to hang again. Seems like maybe a leaky memory issue?
This has been a bug on Prime since launch. I'm honestly pretty surprised it hasn't been fixed yet.

This happens when the data signal is week or cuts out briefly. The quickest fix is to reenter a command glyph. Even if your phone shows 4 bars, it does not show the actual signal strength nor do the bars account for the strength of the data signal. Since I live in a rural area, there have been plenty of times I've had full bars but no data signal at all.
Thanks - I was already aware of the reenter a command glyph fix. I have my doubts that this is (entirely) related to weak signal, given that it reliably gets worse the longer I have the scanner open. Eventually, even reentering glyphs won't clear it, and restarting the app is the only way to get another 15-30 minutes of fully functional glyphing.
Regardless of the cause, this is a pretty bad glitch. Even giving us an option to abort glyphing at this stage would be an improvement.
More memory issues it sounds like. Happens on Android too. Might as well just make a built in restart app command for right about 30 minutes after you launched it. Because it's going to lock up / freeze while you are glyphing or when you are trying to make a link.
Great news tho! Prime is set to reach parity by Sept 30th! So I expect this type of issue to be cleared up by then!
It is absolutely not related to weak signal. The glyph hack command channel hang is super annoying, especially since you cannot interrupt the glyph hack sequence like you can in Redacted (by hitting home or menu or whatever). You have to **** the app if it gets stuck or hit the "x" to exit the screen and lose the glyph hack.
I play in metro areas with strong signal, and a great carrier, and it happens all the time. I'm sure it can happen with dodgy signal, but it is certainly not the only explanation.
I agree with CliffM - I play in metro areas and metro suburbs with very strong signal. It happens constantly on android.
Not happen for med with Samsung Galaxy S10+ 8GB ram. I think it is Prime have bug and take high memory now. I hope Niantic fix it soon.
If you have Prime's "Battery Saver Mode" enabled, try playing with it turned off. This has more or less cured this whole issue for me. I still get a few short delays now and then, but they're 5-10s at most (not 2 minutes or more at times!) and happen less often.
Google Pixel 2 XL, on Android 9, and now 10.
I also don't seem to actually have a different rate of battery drain with this mode off. If I squint I might claim battery use is actually lower with it off.
I don't believe this has anything to do with signal strength.
While signal strength might also cause this, I believe there is an issue even when signal strength is good.
I have seen in this in the middle of reasonable urban areas where I am getting 20mb to 40mb per second. I have then often changed my cell carrier ( dual-sim ) and seen the same problem persist. Killing and restarting Prime seems to help but maybe that is voodoo.
happens even on full WiFi, it is a pain
it seems glyph is an issue on iphone, and scanner freezing on browsing keys is an issue in android.. so weird...
Oh, no, the glyping issue is(/was, I've not played actively in a couple of weeks) an issue on Android as well.
This seems especially common when handing over from wi-fi to cellular, which happens to me a lot as I have Eduroam access and live in a University city.
