New Badge: Enemy Mods Destroyed

Currently there are badges for:

  • Resonators Deployed (Builder)
  • Resonators Destroyed (Purifier)
  • Mods Deployed (Engineer)

Add New Badge:

  • Enemy Mods Destroyed (any good Badge title here?)


Also good candidates for new badges:

  • Portals Neutralized (any good Badge title here?)
  • Enemy Links Destroyed (any good Badge title here?)
  • Enemy Fields Destroyed (any good Badge title here?)
  • XM Collected (any good Badge title here?)

  • Only XM Collected is a good option, the others is just for firing XMP and it is so easy.

    I don't see much point in creating more "destruction medals," because it doesn't tell you anything new about a player.

    "Constructon medals" (like Engineer, Connector, Mind Controller) measure the results of clear and deliberate choices: Players have to choose to install mods, throw links, etc. It's possible for one agent to have a significant disparity in medal color for those medals, because they have to choose to do all those things separately.

    Destroying mods, links, etc. is a side-effect of the general act of destroying resonators. You can't just destroy a link -- you destroy resonators, which breaks links for you.

    I think if Niantic adds new destruction medals, all that happens is that everyone (except players who actively avoid hard work) gets extra medals with the same color as their existing Purifier. It's new medals, but no new challenges, and no new information about the player skills.

    (And for the record, Purifier is kind of an uneven measure of skill anyway, because it counts destroying R1 the same as destroying R8. A "portals neutralized" medal would be even sillier, because there's a bigger difference between neutralizing a P1 and neutralizing a P8.)

    @Wallflower14 You still need to get boom to blow up said mods. I'd like to see destruction badges added in besides purifier as well. Mods, (or even maybe just certain mods destroyed (Aegis and/or shields) would be interesting. Same for links and fields destroyed, heck even an "Mu Freed" badge opposite of illuminator would be nice. In many areas, you need a little destruction, to support new creation of fields. Then again, in my area, opposing faction just like to boom, drop a reso, and drive away.

    The problem I see with this is that it is subject to win-trading. I can also see rampet complaints that agents don't place mods on portals to prevent other agents from ranking the badge, or will only target portals with mods—just like with guardian hunting.

  • I actually support this because it facilitates different playstyles. I like to be a destroyer, but there is only one medal that rewards this.

  • Destroyers are important, but It is not essential like builders.

    ...and portals unload anyway
