Scaling Issues on 3:4 Display

I made a post about this a while back on Reddit in r/IngressPrimeFeedback, but it looks like the new community site was already up before then. I would link to the post, along with the video I uploaded, but I'm not allowed to do that. The subject of the post was "Display Scaling; Touch Input Scaling (Description in Comments)" so I guess you'd have to search that in order to find it.

Device/Version information:

  • Device: iPad Mini, 5th Generation
  • OS: iOS 12.3.1
  • Client Build: 2.23.1-24cf2d94 (All of this is still happening on 2.27.3-e9cea319 as of the time of writing)
  • Resolution: 1536x2048 (3:4) @326ppi
  • Display Size: 7.9"

Scaling at this aspect ratio seems to be problematic. Many of the display elements (especially text elements) probably don't need to be as large as they are currently. Additionally, display elements that are centered on other devices will often appear far from center on this device.

The most frustrating issue for me is, the line traces on the glyph interface have a horizontal skew, so none of the wider glyphs (ALL, CHAOS, PORTAL, IDEA, FIELD, ENLIGHTENED, END) or the glyphs near the horizontal edges (PAST, FUTURE, OLD, NEW, DESTINATION, DISTANCE, BEFORE, AFTER) appear to trace correctly. At first, I thought the input was skewed, but that does not seem to be the case, as the dots on the glyph interface are still lighting up even though the trace isn't running through them. This seems to be purely a display issue.

Thanks in advance for looking into this!
