That's good. When Prime does something good like give su faster access to cubes or recycling stuff, it doesn't get much attention, but when it changes a working mechanic that nobody wanted changed and we were comfortable with everyone gets upset regardless of whether it actually caused a problem or not. Granted many of the changes are also significantly worse than the previous mechanic while others are significantly better.
Though this is absolutely true, in the case of prime is there is also history in the mix.
Niantic did, after all, choose to push the beta Prime client, that had a laundry list as long as your arm with just MAJOR issues that hindered BASIC gameplay, to the live channel and I firmly believe that to this day they are paying the price for that in Prime's reputation.
People already have to use something that looks different, and if on top of that it actually really doesn't work like it should then you're just **** yourself in the foot in my opinion.
I'm saying this as somebody who has zero issues with Prime and has been using it pretty much since launch.
What they should have done, in my humble opinion, is shove Prime's release back a couple of months so they could release to the public what Prime is now and also have no Scanner [REDACTED] fallback.
I got Android Q a few hours ago. I switched to Prime full time a few months ago. I tried Redacted over the weekend for a few minutes and it felt terrible :/. Now it's no longer an option for me at all.
Users hate change because it is a fundamental animalistic instinct of ours. By nature we are designed to identify and find comfort in patterns and routines, these offer forms of security and identity for us. When you mix up our routine, you are theraby mixing up our security and identity which leads to feelings of discomfort and an urging to return back to basline or 'normality'.
What varies between user to user though, is how comfortable they can function further and further outside their standard norm and routine, and the ability and willingness to adapt. Most of all of us are unwilling to adapt to a certain degree I would argue, but those that can step aside and take on a frame and perspective of mind to see what benefits the change will bring about in the future and not bend to their instinctive immediate reactionary stances can better adapt to the changes and restructure their sense of security and identity to align with these new changes.
There's a huge weight difference in being invited to change versus being forced to change. Unless you're a psychopath like me, you wouldn't jump from the hot tub into an icy lake.

Bumping since Android 10 is rolling out today, and Redacted will no longer be an option.
It's only rolling out to Pixel devices right now afaik.
I took the plunge and updated mine to force myself into using Prime, because as long as Redacted was an option, i was using it.

What was posted in GitHub is pretty accurate.
