Dear Niantic

Due to the current hack event and Redacted being shut down for a day, I am using Prime. My experience today reinforces the fact that I am done playing Ingress once Redacted goes away. If you don't want to lose me and quite a few more loyal, paying customers please continue to support Redacted. Thanks for your consideration,

  • Well regardless of the tech, Prime sucks, and hard. It's not fun to play so when it's my only option I'm gone. They did a horrible job developing it, and worse in testing it for flaws. I'm not an IT guy either but I don't think that bodes well for its future.

  • Linking isn't reliable or as fast, the actual movement on the screen is stunted (which is true in Wizards Unite too) so you can't tell where you actually are if there's drift or you are driving, and the app freezes and crashes for me 50x more than Redacted. I currently have a Pixel 3 XL so I don't think my phone is to blame.

I think they are unintentionally pulling the plug through their lack of competence in developing Prime.

  • I have over 100k links, 99% in Redacted or what came before, so that might be a function of what I'm used to. My agent friends tell me it's the same for them though.

The "good" agents lost because of change might not have been great from the start...

I just don't understand the entitlement at this point. They are listening from the recent updates. The launch sucked but if this is the way I'm going to see future updates then I'm all in for supporting it.

  • Bye, Felicia!

    🤣

  • Lol let's see your stats if you think you're the bomb. I said I'll try Prime again if I have to but I'd much rather have Niantic support Redacted. It's not an unreasonable request and there are a LOT more active agents that would love to still use Redacted than you are giving credit for.

Not unreasonable? Niantic themselves have been quite clear, and others have agreed. REDACTED is outdated, with both good and bad things about it. Rather than trying to repair something that is possibly going to just break again in some other way, or lack the new features, Niantic started from the base data and built, including things that people have been asking for.

They aren't making any money off of this. No one ever needs to buy CMU. The game is free. So they are doing this because players/agents have asked for these new features.

Sadly, people will keep demanding newer and better. Rather than be grateful for the new and unique game play.

Hopefully they will eventually put an end to all the current issues that people are facing, as well as the pains of dealing with unintentional bugs that come with upgrading.

  • I still think prime is a drastic downgrade from the original. Ease of use? Out the window. Aesthetics? Garbage. Speed of gameplay? Snail's pace. I'll take my account down when redacted ends unless there are DRASTIC improvements to prime. I tell ya, it's gonna be the **** of any new interest in this game I love.

Seems I can't just quote the last sentence. I would be careful with this assumption.

Newsflash 1: New players since Prime Day 2018 are already forced to use Prime. This means new interest doesn't die in September but either did die already - or is still alive and kicking.

Newsflash 2: lots of new starters after the anime.

Newsflash 3: At least my area is currently dominated by two Prime only players (both started after Prime day)

Don't get me wrong - any loss of old and experienced players is bad. And I certainly haven't seen masses of these new players show up to anomalies. But new blood does trickle in - especially from Pokemon Go. And I'm not talking players only interested to add portals but rather players trying it out and giving up PoGo as Ingress takes over.

the future is now old man

  • So far there haven't been any top level new players in my area who started with Prime but I'd love to see them. It's probably harder for us stubborn old farts to help show them stuff on the new app that most of us don't like to use. Just goes to show you what a community game Ingress is as "it takes a village" to do very well at it.
