Dear Niantic
in General
Due to the current hack event and Redacted being shut down for a day, I am using Prime. My experience today reinforces the fact that I am done playing Ingress once Redacted goes away. If you don't want to lose me and quite a few more loyal, paying customers please continue to support Redacted. Thanks for your consideration,

If you want to quit the game, then quit. The game will in time, hopefully, attract more and more players and replace the ones that have dropped off because Redacted was removed.
Your team and those who knew you will surely miss you and the effort you gave to help keep more portals captured. But you quitting probably isn't going to hurt Niantic. You are probably one of tens, maybe even hundreds of players who are annoyed with the change.
But, between Ingress Prime, Pokemon GO and now Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, I don't think Niantic will ever be hurting as far as player base or income in concerned.
They cant, redacted is using out of date tech and it just can not continue as it is.
I can understand your frustration, but it is impossible to keep Redacted. I would love to have Redacted alive but it is not to be.
I've found this article, maybe it will help you understand why. I'm not so good with computers and IT so I won't try to do tl:dr of info there.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/fevgames.net/why-ingress-prime/amp/
Well regardless of the tech, Prime sucks, and hard. It's not fun to play so when it's my only option I'm gone. They did a horrible job developing it, and worse in testing it for flaws. I'm not an IT guy either but I don't think that bodes well for its future.
I've seen more progression, improvement and general work done on Prime over the last 6 months then the two 2 and something something years of "classic ingress" that came before it. (for me) I've been more positive over Ingress's future lately then ever before to be really honest.
If the migration to Prime proved anything to me it is that Niantic still believes in Ingress.
They could have also just pulled the plug on it instead of investing in new software and lore and it probably wouln't have hit their bottom line all that much with Pokemon and now Harry Potter representing the bulk of their playerbase.
Prime runs fine on my phone by the way, which flaws are you still experiencing?
Linking isn't reliable or as fast, the actual movement on the screen is stunted (which is true in Wizards Unite too) so you can't tell where you actually are if there's drift or you are driving, and the app freezes and crashes for me 50x more than Redacted. I currently have a Pixel 3 XL so I don't think my phone is to blame.
I think they are unintentionally pulling the plug through their lack of competence in developing Prime.
Linking is faster in prime imo.
I have over 100k links, 99% in Redacted or what came before, so that might be a function of what I'm used to. My agent friends tell me it's the same for them though.
Prime has seen massive changes
When I go back to using Redacted, it is awful, truly awful, UI tailored for right handed people.
Field opacity is too high, though Prime, the opacity of fields is too low IMO
For the OCD, Redacted has many many bugs, one ever present, is the direction of links is reversed.
There are times when there are so many problems, that the best solution is to just start again from scratch, hence Prime.
Especially right now with 2.27, and the upcoming 2.28, that providing exact feedback on what works, and what does not improves the game for everyone.
If you want to quit, and try other games, go for it, however, know this, the majority of AR games out now, don't even have half of what Ingress offers. I have tried most of them, and they are not fun, including HPWU, not fun.
those who cant adapt, die.
sorry for the good agents lost when the switch happens, but a lot of the whiney vocal minority will be culled when it happens and i for one wont be sad to see them go find something else to complain about that isnt ingress.
either learn to move in the new interface, or give up the fight for humanity.
all the technical luddites and people who cannot learn new things are exposing themselves daily.
any problems prime has are problems everyone will have, and we will all be on equal footing. someone will still win any given engagement - those who are snubbing prime...well, it probably wont be you.
if you have been playing ingress for years and get your game handed to you by a new player half your level because you cant cope, well, i will be laughing about it.
i am just waiting for all the memes about veteran players who cant cope with change to surface once redacted is offline. some of them are hilarious
The "good" agents lost because of change might not have been great from the start...
I just don't understand the entitlement at this point. They are listening from the recent updates. The launch sucked but if this is the way I'm going to see future updates then I'm all in for supporting it.
Bye, Felicia!
🤣
Lol let's see your stats if you think you're the bomb. I said I'll try Prime again if I have to but I'd much rather have Niantic support Redacted. It's not an unreasonable request and there are a LOT more active agents that would love to still use Redacted than you are giving credit for.
Not unreasonable? Niantic themselves have been quite clear, and others have agreed. REDACTED is outdated, with both good and bad things about it. Rather than trying to repair something that is possibly going to just break again in some other way, or lack the new features, Niantic started from the base data and built, including things that people have been asking for.
They aren't making any money off of this. No one ever needs to buy CMU. The game is free. So they are doing this because players/agents have asked for these new features.
Sadly, people will keep demanding newer and better. Rather than be grateful for the new and unique game play.
Hopefully they will eventually put an end to all the current issues that people are facing, as well as the pains of dealing with unintentional bugs that come with upgrading.
I still think prime is a drastic downgrade from the original. Ease of use? Out the window. Aesthetics? Garbage. Speed of gameplay? Snail's pace. I'll take my account down when redacted ends unless there are DRASTIC improvements to prime. I tell ya, it's gonna be the **** of any new interest in this game I love.
Seems I can't just quote the last sentence. I would be careful with this assumption.
Newsflash 1: New players since Prime Day 2018 are already forced to use Prime. This means new interest doesn't die in September but either did die already - or is still alive and kicking.
Newsflash 2: lots of new starters after the anime.
Newsflash 3: At least my area is currently dominated by two Prime only players (both started after Prime day)
Don't get me wrong - any loss of old and experienced players is bad. And I certainly haven't seen masses of these new players show up to anomalies. But new blood does trickle in - especially from Pokemon Go. And I'm not talking players only interested to add portals but rather players trying it out and giving up PoGo as Ingress takes over.
the future is now old man
So far there haven't been any top level new players in my area who started with Prime but I'd love to see them. It's probably harder for us stubborn old farts to help show them stuff on the new app that most of us don't like to use. Just goes to show you what a community game Ingress is as "it takes a village" to do very well at it.
