The best phone for Ingress Prime

Using Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 as of now. Good for Redacted, not so nice for Prime.

In terms of no lagging and good battery life what would you suggest to buy?

Prime works fine on my Oppo RX17 Pro. I can fairly easily do a two hour banner on a full charge and apart from stuttering on the globe animation the performance is fine.

It's a higher mid range sorta phone, bought it at the end of last year.

Before that I had a Nokia 6.1 which would be a lower mid range sorta phone that also dealt with Prime fine, however Prime got killed fast when in the background on the basis of the phone only having 3GB of ram and I'm a fairly heavy user. (hence the upgrade to a phone with double the ram)

It all comes down to personal preference and budget. I don't think there is a single phone out there that's genuinly better than the other when it comes to Ingress. Looking at the inevitable move towards Prime, perhaps look for phones with a larger battery.

I personally use a Samsung Galaxy S9 and have used the S7 and S6 before. I've been using it for a year now and battery life is still pretty good. Battery performance in the S6 and S7 were much lower after a year or so, but the S9 does fine.

Prime runs smoothly on my LG Stylo 4. Generally speaking, I can play Ingress for an evening on a single charge. I don't live in a portal dense area, so I'm very careful to turn my phone upside down to save my battery while I'm on the move. That said, I do take a portable battery with me if I know I'm playing for more than a few hours. My sister uses a Samsung Galaxy S9, and her battery seems to last about as long as mine.

  • Redmi note 4 is pretty damn good too and now cheaply available.

  • Would be nice if Niantic gave us tips about minimum requirements. And not just the operating system. Processor, memory, graphics etc. My old S8 works fine but drains way too fast. My newer Nokia 7.2 gives up altogether sometimes. Tips on an affordable (Android) replacement are ever so welcome.

Ingress works very well on any flagship device in the last 3 years

  • POCO X3 Pro works well and has decent battery life

  • Prime works pretty good on my 4 year old cat s61. Don't think it's the best ingress phone though, just a data point that the best ingress phone might a little more nuanced than raw CPU brute force

If you walk banners and don't care about price, a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3/4 is a good choice, you can have your Bannergress route on the left and Ingress on the right. You already know what your next waypoint is in advance.
