Redacted VS Prime

!--> The title is deliberately provocative and clicks bait <--!
This discussion is to see the preference of players between the two scanners.
Very simple rule:
Redacted = Like ❤️ (Keep Redacted online forever)
Prime = Insightful 💡 (New scanner is better, if redacted will be banned i don't care)
(In comments you can explain your reason)
My hope is that NIA can see that many players are very fond of the old scanner.
My local community is divided between those who quit once Redacted is banned and those who try to play with little conviction.
A lot of historical players who started at the beginning of the game are totally demotivated to use the new scanner, it would be a sad to lose them when it is possible to keep the game alive with a little effort like now.
I hope it is clear that I do not want to obstruct the evolution of the scanner and block the spread of the Prime version, I just hope that it is possible to keep both apps in parallel exactly as they are now forever.

I just think it is stupid to say that is going to stop play because didn't like the upgrade. Most are lying for sure.
Unless the device don't support prime, I'm pretty sure everyone will give prime a chance.
I'm agree, i hope so.
What about old devices, have they to stop? Redacted would be the only solution...
(How sad are people that report a peaceful comparison post like this for spam and abuse? 🤨)
Good post to gain like and insigthful
If I wanted more like I would have made an explicit post for that like many other forum users.
Redacted is going away for good reason. Niantic can't legally compile and distribute new versions of it, as Microsoft is no longer selling RoboVM licenses. RoboVM is the framework 1.x is built on.
I'm not happy with Prime myself, yet, but I also remember all the growing pains that 1.x went through to get to the point Redacted is at now. Prime will get there, and most of us will be dragged along, kicking and screaming.
I already stopped playing months ago. Prime is unusable due to the countless issues we've been reporting for almost a year. The only thing I've done on Ingress this year is keep some portals recharged using Redacted, and sometimes dropping a reso on random portals. Activity in my cell is around 2% of what it was last year.
As long as the visibility is so poor, as long i will not play with prime.
The bigest UI thing are uncaptured portals which are not visible.
Why should i play if i do not even see the core thing in the game, with which to interact.
The forcing of Prime is just making me to hate the company and thus the game, which once was excelent.
Prime has too many issues, still so many stuff not solved, xm not visible enough, neutral portals u think is xm, glyph hacking is a pain compared to redacted, the whole client feels laggy compared to redacted, worse visibility in sunlight, doing banners i hear the app freezes after sometimes etc etc... how is this going to work when redacted soon dies and we are forced to a client thats not even half ready ?
Freezes & stupid speelock (walk 100m out of Congress.. locked...) are annoying but I don't play on redacted anymore since field link and deploy are far better on prime
Prime has too many visual issues. I still get a headache after looking at the screen for more than 30 minutes.
Redacted does not have this issue.
Prime locks up frequently.
Redacted? Yes, there are lockups, but usually after many hours of play thru portal dense areas.
With EoL of Redacted on the near horizon and the still unfinished (it's BETA at best) Prime scanner still a hot mess of many, many issues, and still lacking parity, the future of Ingress looks bleak. But we still have new agents playing, mostly pogo people starting so they can submit junk to try to get that home pokestop or gym or trying to submit every bench, gravestone, or sign they see, cuz more is better, right? We still have spoofer issues, and even though Global++ apps are gone, iSpoofer now reportedly works with Prime (just idle in one of many PoGo chats, you will see these constant chats),
I wonder what the stats will look like on Friday with Redacted turned off? I bet the Xgress website will be sure to spam up the comms or whatnot to let us know afterwards.
But at least Ingress stayed true to their CEO's word and they don't sell gear in the Ingress Store, right? At least we have that?
/sigh
So I've had prime on for half an hour (3mins of that was the loading screen) since [REDACTED] stopped. I, Very carefully, made one field and my phone has gone from 100% to 67% and feels like it's on fire. Once Redacted comes back I'm getting the 3mil AP I need for L16 and I'm gone. 😥
tonight when redacted went offline, I watched a player quit. This is someone who has organized two successful mission days and is an avid player but she hates Prime. If she quits I'm likely to quit too.
i understand the need to redo the app, upgrade the infrastructure etc but I'm a mobile developer (android AND iOS) and I'm very certain Prime could be dual-skinned without much effort. PLEASE NIA add a classic mode onto Prime and you will re-energize many of your best players. You're not just risking losing users you're risking a mass loss of recruiters and organizers and THAT will damage the game severely.
Excluding visuals, Prime is outstanding but it took some getting used to. Giving players a skin choice of Modern (Prime) / Classic (Redacted) is a good suggestion.
I think everything is decided today. Nia will look at how many people play with raw compared to how much they played with redacted before.
I hope they realize that killing redacted will drastically reduce players and be a bad choice.
PS I'm glad the post took the direction I had in mind, thanks to everyone!
Besides the unsatisfying mechanics, the data usuage increase is so big, I can't afford it. This litarly forces me to quit.
Sunsetting Redacted is going to ruin gameplay forever! No-one seriously invested in this game over the last 6 years will continue to play on Prime. GAME OVER.
GG
Or they're too busy playing on Prime to come post on the forums :P
@GeorgOhm And just for that, I'm not planning on logging into Ingress during their "routine maintenance baloney". Less logins, less active users will paint a picture for them.
I've had 3 different people at work ask me about it today, which puzzled me until I found out each of them had received a portal submission or edit response overnight. That is the only reason why they tried to log in. They saw Prime and were quick to ask what was up. One Enlightened Agent, two Resistance agents. The ENL agent asked me if this was still the same company and if they really made Pokemon Go or if someone else did it for them, then promptly removed Prime from their phone. One Res agent asked basically the same thing, but left the app on his phone. He said he would try it over the weekend. The other Res agent, is a dev. He asked if they had any competent devs there, and if they actually did any QA work, and if they used a Pre-Prod environment (like the stuff I manage at work) or not. He was completely baffled that a Production application that was a rebuild of an app, was this bad, after being in a a Production environment since last November. He asked if the person that came up with Prime still has a job or not too. lol
I find all the flash and glitz of Prime distracting. It may entice younger players from the POGO world since it is so similar, but older players in my area tend towards REDACTED as a cleaner more straightforward game.
Play in the New Orleans - Baton Rouge (southeastern Louisiana/USA) area is down drastically today as agents wait for REDACTED to come back online.
The question is “Can the attractive graphics of Prime add enough new players and convert enough veterans to overcome the loss of players dissatisfied with the change?” Add into this the number of bugs still in Prime after a year plus the fact that a number of features that were pretty much native to Ingress v1/REDACTED are slow to be added to Prime and Niantic is in a difficult situation.
I think NIA should allow new players use Redacted and leave it in the stores forever. My "field" Android phone (100-200$ price category) is too weak to process Prime correctly (after 2,27 updates especially). I don't want to **** my new iPhone's battery by hours of Prime gameplay.
p.s. I know a lot of players who don't want use Prime at all.
I am here to prove you wrong.
I joined in January 2014 and have the current maximum Sojourner streak of 1600 days. I've used Prime almost full time since November (the only time I switched back to Redacted for any significant time was during the Darsana Prime anomaly).
Prime is not brilliant at the moment, but it is at least adequate.
With prime comes the possibility of having new features that wont be possible in redacted. I started with redacted and have been using both apps for different things. It is disheartening to see so many people resistant to new possibilities.
They chose form over function--this was obvious at Exo5 with the "demo" that glitched in exactly the same place at the same time the same way every run-- and the result is a scanner that doesn't perform basic operations to the level of its predecessor.
But it's shiny.
And there's a show.
I'm not invested in the possibility of "new" functions in the "future" (AKA Soon) when the ones I need -now- don't work/don't work to the same level of the "old" app and the ones I do have murder my device's resources, even when Prime is the only major program installed and running. "Yeah, we know but we're doing it anyway" doesn't engender confidence in the process that's already missed several key milestones. There's a reason people think the "maintenance" on the scanner Friday was suspicious and likely a dry run to see how we'd react to being stuck with the Alpha-release-in-the-wild.
With that said, the community and the devs need to stop reducing legitimate complaints about poor user experience (and no longer wanting to play if they don't have options to mitigate the things causing those frustrations) to "you just don't like change."
The one and only thing I find good about prime is the easier access to Power cubes.
Everything else is bad :(
If I have trouble seeing single layer fields and the goal of the game is fielding, what's the point? All the opponent has to do is throw a single layer field over me mid way through setting something up and I could waste a lot of time just to end in pure frustration. Would it completely destroy Prime to add some texture to the fields like we have in Redacted so they are easier to see? Drafting 101. Prime fail!
Until they fix the feel of Glyphing in Prime, I have no confidence I will continue to Glyph after Redacted dies. I have recently spent hours trying to get used to it and I HATE Glyphing in Prime. Glyphing in Redacted was instantly one of my favorite parts of the game. I never had to get acustomed to the feel of it. The only challenge in Redacted was learning the Glyphs.
And battery drain. Need I say more. It seems to be improving, but still has a way to go.
I've really tried Prime after being forced to upgrade which was unpleasant in itself. Had enough and I have uninstalled. Terrible terrible UI, just terrible. Too many clicks to interact. Wish I had got the couple million to get to lvl 16 but Prime is simply awful. If redacted comes back perhaps I'll keep going. After nearly 5 years, you have lost my interest.
One day vs year of redacted play.
That's not trying.
Btw now that they add they drop directly on the key there is not more click on prime than redacted.
People just don't want to learn the new gameplay and keep their habits.
All the Prime bashing is getting really boring. So is all the "waaaah, if you make me use Prime, I'll stop playing! Then you'll be sorry!". So here are a couple of points for the people posting that sort of stuff.
1. No one on this message board cares that you are going to stop playing. Seriously, no one. Just like no one here would care if I stopped playing. Get over yourselves. All the childish whinning and moaning makes it sound like PoGo is probably more your style anyway.
2. Has been said many, many times REDACTED CANNOT CONTINUE. Even if Niantic really wanted to, it is technically not possible.
Prime isn't perfect. There are visibility issues, power and RAM issues. I like to see it run on entry level phones, to expand the player base in lower income countries. Parity is still some way off. It is going to take time and effort from both Niantic and the player base to get it where we want it to be. Constructive criticism is good, moaning that a free game isn't exactly the way you want it, isn't. It's like being given a free car and then complaining that it's a beaten up Ford Fiesta instead of the Veyron you always dreamed of.
If you don't want to play, don't. Bleating about it on this forum isn't doing you any favours.
@JohnnyAlphaCZ
I've learned to use the app. It's just I get tired of having to start the app up again after it's frozen or locked up about once every 30 minutes. It's been an issue on every single build of the application. And until about 2 months ago, often there were times I couldn't even link. It just hurts when basic game play didn't work before. Now with crashes/lockups it gets old having to continually restarting the application. I also have to carry a battery on me when I'm out playing vs with Redacted I didn't have to.
If there had been a proper BETA phase, many of these bugs might of been able to of been worked out before they released it as a Production application. Again, still sad on that one.
I'd quote you, but due to someone flagging every single one of my posts, I'm no longer a high enough level to post links, images, or even quotes. Great forums software you have here @RedSoloCup -- I still don't understand why you have this "feature" built in that forces users to do certain things before they can do simple normal actions like even quote another post.
@EvilSuperHeros many of the visual issues people are complaining about have been mentioned repeatedly since the beta.
Believe it or not Prime is VASTLY better than the first beta drop (floating animated 3D fields overhead!) , but it still feels like the people responsible for the graphic design have never tried to play in a dense or contested area while walking around in the sunlight.
What many people are saying is that they could put up with learning a new UI as long as the core look and feel was built for letting them quickly parse and act on the information on the screen.
When I worked for (big company you have heard of) reports of UI elements giving people vertigo or motion sickness were met with immediate changes as soon as possible, either with user-controlled settings or by removing problematic elements. The entire Prime visual scheme gives many people headaches, motion sickness, and migraines, and we have not heard the slightest indication from Niantic that they are taking this issue seriously.
This is why people are quitting.
