Cost or server issue, perhaps?
because Campfire is horrible
Would it be used over the Intel Map? Is there then any point in having the Intel Map as a standalone item? What costs may be involved?
Whilst I think that Campfire definitely should show something on the Ingress Map, Campfire was intended for Pokémon GO, and other games got lucky that they got something (still odd that NBA All World used the map in it for the short time it existed)
Why reinvent the intel map into one of the crappiest pieces of software that no one uses?
I'm glad I didn't suffer from the Campfire experience. Did it burn a lot of agents?
It's a wasteland. Totally worthless.
Since integrating the Intel map to the Campfire is not feasible, is it possible for Niantic to create a stand-alone Intel Map app for Android and Apple users instead of logging through the website, which requires a tablet or laptop? I wouldn't like hiking a mountain for anchor keys with a laptop in my hiking bag. IITC and other third-party apps are out of the question because they increase the agent's risk of getting banned.
No one is getting banned using a vanilla install of the iitc app. At this point, Niantic isn’t really banning anyone except sloppy spoofers and folks using comms
@ZeroHecksGiven , I recalled that Niantic specified that using third-party apps violates the ToS. Isn't it that IITC is a third-party app that Niantic does not officially recognize? This is why, in Ingress Prime tutorials, most agents resort to using the Intel Map. I am asking that Niantic make a stand-alone official Intel Map to prevent new players from getting into trouble for violating the ToS.
Have they ever specifically said using IITC isn’t allowed or just that specific plugins will get you into trouble? It really seems like you’re making things difficult just to say you’re not using a “ThIrD pArTy ApP.” Honestly, I’m not even really sure I’d consider IITC an app at all. It’s more like a disguise for the intel map using coding tricks to better present the data.
Whatever, you’ll never get an app from them. For a game that’s been dying a slow **** for the past 4-5 years, IITC isn’t a hill anyone should be dy|ng on…
I seem to remember someone from niantic using iitc in one of their screenshots. Was a while back.
What a load of bull. But keep on using that shoddy stock intel map. We will keep using IITC and enjoying all of the extras it provides.
I would like to see Brian Rose, a Niantic developer, or a Vanguard officially endorse IITC with a statement and IITC screenshot here.
That ain't gonna happen.
Who freakin cares? Use it or not. We're done with this discussion.
What makes you sure it ain't gonna happen? It's always one purist highway for the RES anyways...
Both factions use IITC. If you choose not to use it, good for you. I've used IITC without any issues for years and years. Using IITC won't get you a ban. Using certain plugins might get you a ban. Use common sense. If you load the plugin to try to see all the portals in the United States, you might get banned for pulling a crapton of data. If you choose to keep using stock intel, go for it.
IITC Mobile is just a Web Proxy for your Browser. There are ways to detect it but for the most part it behaves much like your normal web browser, only limited to just the Intel site. It just takes the data from Intel and displays it in a different manner, locally on your device. It's not modifying the requests your device sends to Niantic (by default), instead it's just modifying how it looks. It's functioning the same way as just pressing F12 on your keyboard and modifying the HTML on a webpage (only a lot more advanced lol).
The plug-ins you use for IITC may make a boatload more requests to Niantic's servers, as well as other aspects, that could flag your account on Niantic's end. But aside from the Browser Proxy, if you're using standard plug-ins Niantic wouldn't see anything different. They don't necessarily encourage you to use it because it could cause your account to be flagged, but at the end of the day it's just easier to stay silent and not endorse or outright reject it.
Stock intel map could use some visual upgrades, not much has changed during 10 years.
If only a few more agents would subscribe to core.
Did you forget about the portal history and ofer getting the intel to load faster on mobile?
No i meant compared to iitc it feels like a much weaker option
Considering that NIA did a tie up with IITC a few years back, I would say the chances of being banned using it are quite slim.
There was a recent update to the map for Pokémon GO in Campfire.
Having similar filters for Machina, Scheduled Beacons and such would be nice.
So, IITC can't be used on a major operation, like a huge field art that requires a lot of information about many portals because it will request boatloads of information from Niantic's server and can flag someone's account? No wonder there's not a lot of field art nowadays. It's just a shame that most of us have to be confined to fielding triangles; it does make the game too bland.
Not necessarily. Stock Intel loads Portals in chunks and those are stored on the browser session. The farther zoomed out you are the less detailed the load is, eventually only loading links and fields over a certain size, and the portals conntected to the links.
For field art you'd be looking at loading chunks close to the ground in limited areas. Loading these detailed chunks on a human pace, with stops here and there, are totally acceptable and wouldn't flag anything.
BUT IITC has plug-ins that can request, load, and display the most detailed chunks over a GIANT area all at the same time, and that's what might cause flags. It's not requesting information within the expected bounds, and is detected.
IITC, by default, requests updates at the same rate at the normal server
You're fine with doing field art and any kind of big op. It's been verified with a lot of the ops posted.
They could, but at this point is difficult to not think that Campfire was created mainly for the PoGO playerbase.
Poor thing. You need to emerge from under your rock. You've been missing out it sounds like. Time to stop Resisting change and Enlighten yourself! 🤣
