Whilst I appreciate a challenge that isn't something to do with scanning, I would have liked more than 2 days notice for such an event. What's with the last minute nature of the information? Did the person running ingress forget to tell us earlier?
Smaller cities always have a disadvantage, but theres also less players there, so catering the top tier badge to their "difficulty level" just means it will be absurdly easy for even the more casual city players.
Niantic will never be able to please all player types sadly.
I suppose Niantic could do something funky based on average portal numbers in an agents score cell (or a smaller cell size even)
@Breenzy I don't think adjusting thresholds based on cells would be feasible because I don't even know how to conclusively identify an agent's local cell. One possibility would be the one that they first played in after the start of the challenge but that has issues... people don't always stay put, and someone could quickly move from a high-density area to a low-density one. I suppose Niantic could figure out a most-frequent play area but that has the same issues of people not staying put.
Stagnant areas are also a problem for some challenges. If your whole area is one faction with no opposition it's much harder to smash and build.
The less metagameable math trick would give every agent the same tiers, but adjust the point value of each portal according to local portal density. Portals in overpacked cities would be less valuable than portals in the boondocks.
I don't expect Niantic to ever do this and I don't want to see them try. They would somehow **** it up so that fewer agents win medals overall.
I disagree. All the people I know who play hours a day aren't in here because they're busy playing Ingress.
This place is a madhouse, full of deluded lunatics who think they're the important ones, while the people who won't talk to them do all the real work of keeping the battle going.
@XK150 I am active in this forum, and I'd suggest that you ask my local opponents whether I just visit the forum and don't play much. Actually, I can save you the trouble. This screenshot is my weekly combat stats as of last night. My monthly is 32.7K. Some of those smashes are easy stuff to blow through but mostly I target long-standing P8s and other entrenched/fortified stuff.
So... some people who visit this forum play quite actively. I can vouch for @EvilSuperHeros as well.
@joecain I honestly don't know. It was a fair bit, but I also have a full-time job and a life outside of Ingress. I hit 14,946 destroys for the week tonight but that's because someone had soft-built a fairly large dense area so I could blow through a ton of stuff in no time flat. I couldn't quite hit 15K for the week because I was racing against one-week-ago Hosette, and she was on a maniacal tear that night.
Portal density and activity are key in this one. I'm waiting for things I deployed on last week to decay so I can capture again. It might be possible to get the second tier.
That would be interesting, have a baseline value, so a portal with no other portals within say 100/200m would be worth 10 points. But as the density increase, the value slowly drops. Would really encourage people to explore those less visited portals.
Obviously the CBD would still be good as the value drops to 1, but it wouldn't be an issue as that's the value right now.
It took me 12 days to reach 15k points, mostly by visiting an active portal dense area multiple times.
Definitely an enjoyable event that made a few more agents move outside of their usual play area in my city and a nice boost to both Builder and Purifier badges.
I just realized you can team up with another agent and upgrade resos on each other. 54 points for each portal. That really helps trying to find portals if the density is low.
The only thing is you would need to have a inventory of all number resos

5754 points so far, the vast majority from destroys... not a bad first day.

its running for 3 weeks and should take most players a week at most for the top tier if you play a few hours per day
Most players I reckon actually only have weekends to play,
This makes it more difficult to achieve the goal.
We consistently see players in big cities capable of doing the high tier challenges, smaller cities and towns are more difficult.
3 weeks is roughly a good amount of time for this challenge
Smaller cities always have a disadvantage, but theres also less players there, so catering the top tier badge to their "difficulty level" just means it will be absurdly easy for even the more casual city players.

I feel like an increased amount decay and awarding 3 points to the final resonator deployed would have been beneficial.
Who plays a few hours a day? No one I know
I think the most polite thing anyone can say to that is: You need to meet more Ingress agents.
We have a few local ENL who play for hours every day. Well, hours and hours and hours and hours every day.
If the weather is decent I might play for an hour or two after work a few days a week. Or a few hours on the weekend.

Anyone who visits the forum.

Your existence is for the sake of "I disagree"
Perry is a close second
Cryptic Memories done, yay! That was fun! Currently at 12,643 destroys for the week and 1448 resonators deployed.
wow u play alot hosette ⚡
What kind of play time was required for those numbers?

Great idea, Niantic should look into it.
Very doable challenge.
And it involves gameplay instead of scans; I'm in.
15k let's go!

@MoogModular more effective would be an player from a different team xD
Still faster than trying to take over the entire playbox 😂
Has anyone noticed faster decay on portals?
Nopers. Same decay rate.
You're crazy, Niantic. It's a deal but I wish it was available sooner.
They changed it to 8 per agent. Its almost like they want everyone to get this one...or maybe just trade their monies for some cmu at least.
