That alone should not be the argument. A much better reason to have thrown such an event mid-year is: there are little to no places in the Southern hemisphere where the winter makes it nearly impossible to activate overclock portals. In the Northern hemisphere, that happens in an awful lot of places.
That said, it's just another evidence of how this event was absolutely not thought through.
You have a month to do this challenge which has allowed me to get portals and let them decay to grab them again the following week. Even messing around with the other faction gets some back and forth going for points.
I have an OC portal for work and that gets me 17*4 = 68 pts for every 4 hrs. Usually only 136 pts a weekday. I do have some clusters around my area that can do OC.
Hopefully I'll get a couple of Chronos points in my 4-day Christmas trip, I've found a square with 4 activated portals in Fortaleza. Here in Natal I could only activate one of my work portals before this s-word bug halted further activations.
Lots of Agents subbed stuff, plus all the pogo crapola that showed up when pogo got ahold of wayfarer really helped. The pogo themed storm drains are some great fake poi. Wayfarer has been gamed for so long, it really doesn't matter what they do now. the DB was long ago poisoned with ****. Just sooo much more when the influx of pogo showed up.
If you calibrate successfully, you get 5 OC points (thus 10 Chronos points) whether the glyphs are OK or not. You only get points for glyphs if all of them are correct.
Players in the southern hemisphere nearly always are forgotten about.
It has been nice to do scans later in the evening.
This event I've already ranted on. Niantic are aware of the issues, as does Brian, and what is needed to be done.
Time to move on and look on the positive side of things in ingress.
I've done some after dark scans, and they've been OK, with street lighting,, not had a torch with me. Would be handy if there was an option to turn on your mobile flash to assist with low light areas where street lights can't sufficiently light up stuff.
TBH, the nice thing about this challenge is that you can do it without a single overclock. I'm north of 3K points already just from capping and modding and the other 2K should be easy.
The only thing I hate about overclock is having to recycle cubes and mods - I've never done that before. Cool days in the park are fine with me, just means fewer people in the way of scanning.
calibration works only on "scan-supported" devices. overclock works on all devices was capable to scan before. My current isn't supported by new AR so my OC is limited. anyway,3700+ points now, enough time to do the trick:)
I think the nice thing with overclock is obtaining lots of mods. Once I have burned out portals, cap portals with mods until whenever. Rinse and repeat.
In the last week I've deployed 1519 resos, captured 1347 portals, deployed 1424 mods, and destroyed 6803 resonators. Oh, also racked up 12,911 glyph hack points farming all that gear.
When overclock was first released I made an effort to create more overclock portals. I have three parks in my town with three overclock portals each, a nature trail with 5, and a quick serve Mexican restaurant with one. There's one at the local mall, two down the road, several more at the local university. 5000 was not impossible using hack mods
There was a time (back in ingress' heyday) when I might have spent the hours and gas to grind out 5000 points.
But ingress (and niantic) is in a much different place now.
Grinding out badges like this or driving/flying to anomalies just doesn't seem worth the effort. Mainly because niantic isn't putting effort into basically anything now. They slashed staff, took away our CMs, communicate FAR less, and backslid on promised features (how about those new backends/servers?).
I finally tried the overclock thing and it has to be the most useless thing to do in the game. At least I can say I tried it but since it does nothing for the game I can't say I'll ever do it again. I can glyph a portal without waving my phone around like an idiot. There's no benefit to scanning in Ingress. If that's the future of the game I think I'll pass. These events just aren't doing it for anyone.

Perhaps our community manager will weigh in on this topic.

It's just a slow burn to 5k for me.

I actually like Overclock.
Weird as it maybe
Gives a new dimension to the glyph mini game.
Like a lot of features in Ingress, Overclock is under utilized
Seasons are backwards in the northern hemisphere.
Players in the southern hemisphere nearly always are forgotten about.

Only if you live in a city with enough wayspots to do this

I got mine yesterday , and apparently so did Brian Rose
Lots of Overclocking
Lots of scanning and VPS activations too

Then it's time to move agent!
Put vr hack mods on it and flip it every hour.
I can't portal scan on my pixel 8 but I consistently able to calibrate to get the full points out of an overclock hack.
Yes, it is called Overclocking, which I did, a lot of.
This was the only option due to time constraints
Driving around for hours for a couple of portals at time wasn't possible.
You can still OC on an 8 Pro?
Love to see you do it here with zero VPS portals and ~80 portals on the whole **** island.
How’s everyone coming at getting their portals Overclock activated!
Oh, wait, Lightship is still broken!!! Nothing can be VPS-Activated!!!
Another failed event!!
Finished this today, zero overclocks.

It's not even an 8pro. It's just an 8, and yeah I got the vast majority of my 5000 points from overclock hacks
Yeah. That kinda sucks. I have no OC portals around either. Guess I'll have to settle for second tier.
Still hoping for a rerun of this event once VPS activation works again.
1527 reso,3488 mod,24431 glyph. Totally 5025 chronos points without any overclock.Hard but possible.
How many miles driven? 😁
Ingress is the world's most expensive driving game. Probably why it's losing popularity. It's not worth the gas for these events
