So they have an event where Overclock is a big part of the event. Yet no where **in game** do they give us the option to VPS-Activate the Portals, or even explain how to. Not even a link to download the in-beta-and-breaks-all-the-time, Wayfarer VPS-Activate app, which is the only way to activate Overclock.
No where in-game does it mention you need to do 10 scans that are at least five hours apart from the first to the 10th scan. All it does is just keeps asking for more scans.
I’m the only player in my county that’s actively been scanning and working on activating Overclock, 6,186 scans so far. When I first started scanning and noticed it would simply tell you to do more scans after you do seven scans, then asked tor more scans, I had to go to Reddit to find out how to actually activate Overclock.
The least they could of done was give a months notice before the event started, with a detailed guide **n-game** on how to VPS-Activate the portals.
1. Not early enough portals. Especially since there are a ton of VPS activated portals that are "experimental" which are not overclockable.
2. Not enough time to walk around the tesseract to find the right angle.
3. Buggy "reality calibration". Some portals it's fine for others just never seem to work especially in the evenings to night hours.
4.some glyphs can show up wrong. Can't even count the number of time I saw xm and it was truth
5. Bad math. I'm sorry but the calculations for points are really punishing especially when you consider how few portals there really are and the fact you only get 1 try every 4 hours if you don't have common heat sinks to burn.
So far I’m enjoying this one and am improving at Overclock glyphs.
I do have 3 Overclock Portals nearby, and a few more that I hope to get activated so that should be doable for me to at least get the first medal by the weekend.
Will this event give Niantic more scans? For sure.
Was it the real reason behind an Overclock event? Probably.
Had some time to try out some overclock portals today and it went well. L1 and L2 were a breeze. Much different experience from the first few days of it's release. Still not sure if I plan to rally for the silver tier or even the bronze tier for that matter, but I at least wanted to see if things have changed. I was on a crazy mission to get the onyx scout medal (I did) last year, so there are plenty of VPS enabled portals in my area. We'll see how long this holds my interest (I'm guessing not long)....
No sooner I say it’s working okay, I get a string of them where the cube is literally in the worst possible place. Still not sure if I’m deploying it incorrectly or it’s just Niantic…
Make sense? Nah! Niantic likes it when the player has to figure it out on their own.
But this is the **** that drives players/agents away. Really wish someone on the Ingress side would figure out these things. Its been 11 years now. Surely someone could of thought this through better.
I had the cube move on me earlier today. I placed it at eye level, and the effer decided to go above my head.
Sometimes the cube doesn't appear to have any wiggly lines in it. Wasted attempts.
Worse, is the stuff that was scanned last spring, where this summer they replaced or rebuilt said pavilion or bench, and it no longer looks the same, so you can't get a calibrated scan for it. Or the item has moved and you can't scan it because its over there ---> too far away.
Other crappy thing, when you have a bench as your VPS, and its right by the playground, people tend to sit on said bench, and you CAN'T scan it.
I tried, but I give up. Captures and mods for the month. I'm currently 26.4% complete. Gallons and gallons of gas away from the top tier.
After the gym, I tried hitting some in town, which it was now dark. With low light, the cube was all over the place. Sometimes like 100ft away, sometimes I would point my phone and it was directly under me. I hit the 500 for the ‘basic’ medal and called it quits for the night. The basic tier is kinda fug|y, so I may grind this one out just so I don’t have to look at it.
Your daylight hours change far slower than in the north. In the summer Cali has night come an hour before up here on the North Coast, and in the winter we have night an hour earlier than Cali.
This overclocking had to e the worst thing I've ever done in a niantic game. 75% of te time I can't even see the lines, when I can it's another 20% I can't even tell what direction its meant right be. Then maybe 1% of the time I can guess the correct glyph. The lines need to be much more pronounced. The time limit needs to bench higher as you're spending g most of it tryjg to work out what you're looking at. And it needs a lot less moving around, I feel so self conscious trying to find the angle
I've gotten pretty comfortable at with at least a 3 glyph overclock hack with practice, after a while you sort of remember what each mess of lines represents. With a level 5 portal and two VRMH I can get roughly 100 chronos points in about 20mins.
Though I will probably stop after getting the base tier medal due to the lack of overclock enabled portals outside of major city centres.
This is Barcelona, a city which served as main anomaly site during Darsana. I spent mostly all the afternoon taking a great walk.
Overclock portals found so far: 4
Lucky me I have a fine collection of multihacks inside my inventory.
I’m gonna stop here. Not worth my time (specially when my first complete OC glyph sequence was ruined by a misleading angle from the last glyph…). At least I got a surprise:
Would have been nice if Niantic pushed all the eligible VPS portals online prior to the event, instead of leaving it to the players without any direction. Additionally, Players can only activate up to 20 Wayspots without getting errors on wayfarer thus further discouraging activation & additional gameplay…. Another event fumbled by creators.
I got a few pushed through. Wayfarer app says they were activated. Yet they aren't in the game some 12+ hours later. Two that were approved or said they were good from Saturday are still not live in Ingress.
Somewhere frustrating. Back to driving around capturing portals. At least gas prices are dropping some locally.
Trying to Overclock before work is a no go, it's not light out enough to get a calibrated overclock scan in. But by the time I leave the office, its getting dark, so same issue. This should of been pushed off til Spring, and given us notice so we could actually attempt to get some OC (overclock) portals setup to use.
It needed a level in the middle, say 2500 points. That's a fair challenge for people who can't overclock. The ugly yellow version is too easy (almost there already and haven't been playing that much).
Brian had not consulted with the Wayfarer team prior to the event starting, so that they could have implemented an automated process, or enabled game accounts to use the wayfarer app, but then ingress would also need to have a counter shown on each portal in portal view to show how many (good) scans are required.
Having the wayfarer app open to game accounts is the lest amount of work to achieve less annoyance and aggrevation from not having enough information or nominating wayspots for VPS activation.
This and other issues are just examples of poor planning.

That's ok . Overclock is overrated.
It pains me to see these agents with thousands of scans, blindly gobbling up anything niantic will pour into them.
What does ingress have to show for all your time, data, and energy spent scanning?
This is where Niantic shows their incompetence.

And do the event when it’s warmer!!
@Ragnar101 it's plenty warm here in Sydney for the event, expecting the temperature to reach 43 degrees celsius this weekend.
It shows a cute doggy with a bow tie !
yikes.. u can hardly play in 40c temps... thats insane.. phone will also just overheat.... :/

Do I care? No. I just want the new medal.

No points for scanning? That was the biggest blunder of this event!! On good weather days, I easily do 400 scans!
And a working Wayfarer app would be nice!
Cross posting with regards to the Wayfarer app status
This event has been a massive CF
@PkmnTrainerJ thanks for commenting on the topic in the wayfarer forum.

With the added cloud its literally dark at 4pm.
The only overclock I was able to find from now, be like:
-Found the glyph.
-The resulting glyph is actually mirrored.
I am at 200+ point mark. I think I’m not going to pass from bronze D:

I guess is never too late.
restart game, if open more then 15min the glyphs are almost impossible to id...
The thin lines usually happen to me when data drops out.
Could be but seems a restart is the temp fix so far to get them to show good.
Still not great at Overclock but improving.
