I can't speak for them, but it seems like it was abandoned before it even really started. They made some big thing about choosing them, but then, it's been silence ever since.

  • My wish list in no particular order

    1. Portal key duplication. Bring back the ability to make more keys for portals through either kinetic capsules or other non form.

    2. Souvenir key/trophy case feature. The ability to store keys to portals in a souvenir trophy-style capsule or an entirely new UI menu with tons of capacity. The keys cannot be used and are recycled/deleted if removed.

    3. Ability to recharge keys inside of capsules.

    4. Make C.O.R.E. valuable and more than just a drop of otherwise easily-attainable items every month. The only reason I still pay for the subscription is the added inventory space. Add exclusive game mechanics to C.O.R.E. to make it worthwhile. Examples: Mission publishing limit count increase and permanent increased link distance under control fields for subscribers.

    5. An update/revamp to the outdated Mission Authoring Tool site and mission publishing limit increase to 500 (perhaps an exclusive to C.O.R.E. subscription). While we’re talking about missions, revamp the mission menu in the scanner. It feels very cluttered.

    6. Finalize, fine-tune or redefine what Machina is/suppose to be and expand on how players can interact with it beyond just destroying Machina. It feels a bit unfinished and one-dimensional. There was a phrase in the promotional material from Niantic when Machina made its debut that factions could “use Machina to their advantage”. That advantage hasn’t materialized and perhaps that’s an idea that could be finally expanded on.

    7. Agent profile re-skin or overhaul. It feels a bit dated and agent avatars could use a change or update as well. Learn from the best of Pokémon Go customization UI (even if you have to monetize it) and apply it to Ingress. Give Agents customization and unique expression.

    8. In-game/scanner interaction with other players/Agents. The best experiences from Pokémon Go and Monster Hunter Now come from virtual interactions with others. Ingress feels a very lonely.

    9. We need something beyond the typical level grind. I’d like to see something that I like to call “Bounties”, or player-initiated, but NIA-supported tasks or objectives that can be started at any time. Kind of an exciting mini-game experience. I’d call it Missions, but that’s already a thing. I guess “Agent Ops” is on a similar mindset, but I’d like to see something like this with permanent experiences (bounties) that can be launched any time as well as monthly or quarterly themed NIA event challenges that are optional. If you’ve ever played Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto or Red Dead Redemption, the online or offline mini-missions or bounties were always great experiences beyond the storyline or the typical grind. BONUS if other Agents can join in your experience.

    10. Re-defining or re-emphasizing the objective of winning global cells and leaderboards. Few Agents still strive to be competitive in their cells but this has really fallen off and the Scores menu is kind of an afterthought now. Create new incentives for factions winning cell cycles and reward incentives for top performing Agents beyond leaderboard bragging rights. Also, why is viewing other agent profiles limited to a cooldown period? That doesn’t much sense. Change that.

    11. Drones could use an added purpose. Drone movement to hack feels so one-dimensional and stale now.

That's because their job title is a bit different than anything on Ingress.

  • PkmnTrainerJPkmnTrainerJ ✭✭✭✭✭

Job title? They’re getting paid? I need to have a chat with Niantic. 😂

    Redacted skin.

I would vote for you to be in charge of ingress with these ideas.

  • ShottixShottix ✭✭✭✭

Agree with the most part, not the part about portals that are inaccessible, in what way do you mean inaccessible? They must be accessible or they wouldn't be a POI, If you mean portals that you personally can't get to then no I can't agree. There's plenty of portals each side owns which is hard/impossible to reach for people who play ingress, but there maybe tens or hundreds of employees who also work there and should be able to use the POI on all niantic platforms.

Give the drone some added utility, one suggestion sure to get a rise is this. Allow drones to follow links of any length, in addition allow a drone to attack as if you were there, but if and only if the attacked portal is over 100 days old. If you lose the attack your drone is returned. Would need some sort of battle clock so you can't just sit there forever. This makes drones more fun in general, and it helps address those durable portals.

  • HosetteHosette ✭✭✭✭✭

@Shottix I've been playing the durables game for close to a decade, and I'm aware that "I can't get to it" doesn't mean that it's inaccessible.

There are plenty of ways that a portal that was once accessible can become inaccessible. Imagine, for example, that a volcano erupted and lava flow blocked all access to an area. Landslides, fires, and other natural disasters can and do have a similar impact. A facility that used to be accessible may be fenced/walled off and no longer accessible to anyone. There are other ways this can happen too.

If I remember correctly the current standard is that one person must be able to safely access the wayspot. I think that was maybe an OK standard years ago because it was self-limiting... the number of keys that people could get was pretty much proportionate to the accessibility of the wayspot. I know that wasn't always the case but it was generally true. Allowing keys to duplicate has completely broken this relationship and a portal that essentially nobody has access to can have thousands or tens of thousands of keys collectively distributed among players' inventories. The massive mismatch between the difficulty of accessing a portal and the number of keys available has made it possible for one faction to completely control a geographic area for months or years, with the other faction essentially having no way to compete.

Niantic also isn't very good at removing wayspots that are no longer accessible, but it's highly random.

Basically, the legacy of key duplication combined with some portals becoming far less accessible over time has killed the strategic game in some areas. I think this is a very difficult problem to solve and any solution will make some people unhappy, but I think the current situation leads to stagnation and reduced competition. I love the game of hiking up mountains, renting snowmobiles, and chartering boats to get to durable portals. That stuff's fun and challenging. I don't like portals that maybe a handful of people in the world ever have access to and your only option is to identify those people and try to recruit one of them to play Ingress for your team.

My goal with this request is to improve the competitiveness of the game.

I would so like the only mu leaderboard evolve to add all stats.

same leaderboard but one for each stat by cycle. cell and worldwide. I am pretty sure a lot would like and play more if can compete in something else than field multilayers where no one else play.

  • ShottixShottix ✭✭✭✭

Yeah I agree. I don't know what the answer is though, I think if you start messing with this aspect of the game you'd lose the only real players that are remaining, after all it's both teams who have this advantage in certain areas, it's very much a postcode lottery for how successful your game will be

  • mortuusmortuus ✭✭✭✭✭

After 10 years is about time they change to not only count fields, even old fields up for months shouldnt count but guess they never change that.

  • VenomousToadVenomousToad ✭✭✭✭✭

Not every area plays for the scoreboard. Most people don't even look at it. If you add more metrics it would draw more interest from players. AP gained, portals captured, portals destroyed, anything else really. The game can be played in many different ways but the leaderboard doesn't reflect that.

  • The possibility of forming in-game clans (teams) is completely missing. I think new avatars would be good. The idea of an animated character is also great. I would also be happy about a 3D map. while respecting data protection, a player could have the opportunity to be visible to others when using the app. that would give us the opportunity to coordinate better. In addition, the possibility of real private messages in-game is missing. why does everyone have to be able to read when I contact someone? that is completely nonsensical.

  • HosetteHosette ✭✭✭✭✭

@VenomousToad Do you think more areas would play for the scoreboard if it was always competitive?

  • joecainjoecain ✭✭✭✭✭

Easy mode has killed the strategic fielding game. Agents kept moaning about being permaBAF'd so niantic rolled over and let them link under fields.

Control fields don't exist anymore, so why bother spending time and effort climbing that mountain if some agent can link under your field?

  • tp235tp235 ✭✭✭✭

    ・Agent Ops

    SOON.

But a reward is enough to publicize the honor of the individual.

Granting in-game currency encourages unnecessary conflict and cheating.

    ・FitRep

    Not required.

Kinetic capsules well provide rewards. Expansion of the kinetic program will suffice. (but no duplication of portal keys)

    ・Friends

    Accomplished.

The AG has already achieved great success in socializing across countries and regions in 2012 when the closed beta program was launched.

People have rallied in teams to Anomaly, created huge control fields between countries, and carried shards.

And Ingress has the advantage that there are no restrictions on play, even for one person.

Forcing people to connect with friends, as in PGO's raid battles, forces people to create their own Alt instead of connecting with other players in order to get rewards.

We should not bring that folly to Ingress.

    ・Level 17+ please

    These are incompatible.

・A reason beyond bragging rights to recurse (maybe 17+ needs one)

The choice of recursion is left to the AG.

And the AG does not even need to be at level 16.

    Everything is free.

・Duplicating keys (sell Very Rare KCaps that do it, I don't care)

No, it's not. They won't bring back lost ones to destroy the game's balance.

The basis of Ingress is "go where the portal is".

・Months with events beyond the usual FS, SS stuff (will be an especially bare month in January/April if that's all we have)

For now, January and April could have mission days somewhere in the world.

Other than that, it looks unlikely for now.

However, a survey was recently sent to many agents, so something may be held after reading them.

seeing how the IWWC is very intense yes, i think stat leaderboard where you can actually compete (cell / worldwide) would bring more fun / dynamics.

and why not not only stats, total portal owned per faction for example so there is also a team part that anyone can actually help

  • tp235tp235 ✭✭✭✭

A leaderboard would be nice to have.

Posting the various numbers of players from around the world, both cumulative and cycle-by-cycle, and having them compete against each other would stimulate agent honor and stimulate play.

It would also evoke memories of old legendary agents.

would be more fun if cell board have more then just count mu and be dynamic based on amount of players active in each cell perhaps

  • HosetteHosette ✭✭✭✭✭

I think it would be fun to have leaderboards for things that are directly related to playfield control, like portals captured and portals neutralized, MU captured (which we have) and MU neutralized, and maybe fields created/neutralized. IIRC there are already third-party options for people who want to compete on all of their personal stats.

My rationale for this is that I think Ingress has moved too much toward griiiiinding individual stats and too far away from people and teams competing for playfield control. I'd like to see more of that competition come back into the game.

I 100% unquestionably want a leaderboard for MU liberated that's parallel to MU captured since both things contribute equally to the cell and global scores.

  • MoogModularMoogModular ✭✭✭✭✭

What gets me is they have APIs for anomalies and global events to gather stats. This stuff is accessible online. For instance, Darsana Prime stats for random portal hacks? here you go

This could probably be pushed to a website.

  • mortuusmortuus ✭✭✭✭✭

all i ever hear is people recurse over and over use Apex battle beacons yada yada 🥱

  • GrogyanGrogyan ✭✭✭✭✭

    As you do

  • HosetteHosette ✭✭✭✭✭

@MoogModular It could be, but what about people who choose to keep their stats private? The current situation seems better... people can choose to publish their stats to a third-party aggregation site, and those who don't want to can completely ignore the stats competitions.

    The addressing of grievances.

Someone has seen their share of Seinfeld.

  • MoogModularMoogModular ✭✭✭✭✭

Then they can choose to participate like an option in the settings?

API is verified data. Agent Stats is really an honor system.

  • PkmnTrainerJPkmnTrainerJ ✭✭✭✭✭

If this is directed towards me, I haven’t seen it, so not sure what reference I’ve accidentally made.

  • MirthmakerMirthmaker ✭✭✭✭

It's an in general that you responded to. No worries. Niantic has dropped the ball a lot and needs to be held accountable for doing so. Thereby the airing of grievances large and small.
