Being targeted by a toxic player
So as the title suggests I’m currently being targeted by a player that has been acting in a toxic manner.
context:
I’m a university student and normally only play around campus but on occasion I’ve ventured out into town and done some stuff. Tuesday of this week I neutralized a portal because I had the opportunity to and needed to waste some time. The next day around noon I got a message that the portal that i previous wiped was now captured by its previous owner. All well in good I thought. 20 min later I fond that they tried attacking one of mine and then proceeded to make a “spite” field that covered all of the campus and more. I was able to take it down after my classes as I had recently recruited some new people and wanted them to be able to lvl up without much hassle. Again I thought that was it. The next day I had some free time and decided to do some fielding. I found that about an hour after everything that I had done that day was under attack but the same person. At this point I realize that he had more salt than the Dead Sea. I tried to talk to him in chat and reason with him but the conversation ended with him saying “ Y u mad bro it’s just a game” he then put up a larger spite field up above campus. Now today I got notification around 11:00 that my stuff was under attack. This continues even coming back to portals that I put a single resonator on. Once that concludes they go out and expand the spite fields to be 3 layers deep. Later I got some friends and had them use a flip card on the one portal that was holding all of the spite fields up my friends then linked it to a bunch of portals even getting a link that was 42 km. I tried to interact as little as possible only helping by upgrading resonators. Flash to now it’s 8:00 pm and I got notifications that the one portal that I had left standing was wiped none of the portals around it that where owned by my friends got attacked. I’m away for the weekend but feel that this will continue. All other players on in the opposite faction in and around town I’m on good terms with only occasionally coming onto campus.
what should I do? They are not violating any rules but I’m only lvl 9 vs a recursed lvl 15 that has a core subscription.

That's pretty normal gameplay really. You take things, they take things. Normal back and forth. I wouldn't give it much thought. They are coming to you and giving you easy ap. That's a great situation. Let them keep traveling to you. Take all the AP you can. Your scenario isn't toxic. Be glad for that. Playing in a toxic area isn't fun.
You may be right. I just find that when out of five portals the only one that was taken down was mine to be a little toxic. But I couldn’t imagine an area with this as the norm.
@Voroxity How active is your area in general? It may be that you're providing the only entertainment/opportunity for this player.
Also, it's a game of capturing and controlling territory. Competing for control of territory seems normal to me.
If you find it toxic, engaging with the agent with anything other than actual gameplay will only cause you heartburn. Stay off comms and play the game, comms is going to instigate further targeting.
Seems normal gameplay to me and u dont need talk to player just do your things and u get your points i dont see the problem
Don't feed the trolls. Defeat them by being more stubborn than they are.
Unless the player violates the community guidelines and/or Niantic ToS this is normal gameplay. Portals are not your assets, don't be too attached to them.
You're doing a good job P.0ing someone. That's good. Keep at it. You'll force more action which is what you want. And when you have numbers at appropriate levels , 8+, you'll force more action than this single toxic figure can keep up with.

Just play the game, show up to local events, and make nice with who you can make nice with. Sounds like normal trading, the fact that they spite field over you means you're doing your job. Keep upsetting the apple cart, that's part of the fun, just keep it sane, safe, and fun for everyone.
Note: You can still make 500 meter links under fields and capture portals, so you won't be fully locked out of play by spite fields. If i remember correctly, it might still be set to 8km at the moment? Have been too busy to play recently.
