New account problem

Hi there!

My wife just tried to start a new Ingress account.

When she attempted to log in with her gmail, she got logged straight into the game.

No option to choose faction or agent name, no tutorial. She is a resistance agent with the name "Agent #####" (random series of numbers).

Why is this happening, and what can we do about it?

    Did you use her as a backpack account at any time in the past?

    Can you check the version of the app on your wife's phone? It should show in the settings at the bottom of the screen. If it is 2.128.1 then you had bad timing as that version has introduced a new tutorial which is still locked until everyone gets the new version. It's possible that the scanner didn't know what to do with a locked tutorial and just skipped it.

    In any case, try opening a support ticket to change the name. For the faction, you can either wait until your wife makes it to 40.000 AP, at which point you'll be able to switch faction without penalty once, or you can open a (potentially separate) support ticket for a faction change,

    I guess we'll just try to make a faction and agent name change then...

    How about the "verified" medal? Is that forever out of reach?

    The Verified medal was discontinued when Niantic spun out of Google, so almost like 6 or 7 years ago by now? Maybe it'll come back sometime in the future, but at the moment, it can't be obtained.

    There is another post somewhere, Brian acknowledged there is currently a bug,

    I suspect it could be related to the 'delayed' new tutorial release, once latest version reached critical mass...
