Red Portals
I`d like to see the Machina faction instead of just randomly throwing links, be like a virus and spread and throw fields, and be able to attack portals. It would create interest in the red faction instead of people just ignoring it.. it would make the game much more interesting, like battling an invisible invader

There are some things it should never do, that being one. Attacking portals.
We believe that Machina may make fields in the future, however this isn't guaranteed
I'd rather join the red faction and capture gray portals.
i like the machina concept a third faction., an AI controlled faction..a viris that attacks and controls grey/long term dormant in active portals..[ inactivity > 1 month] can link other grey/machina held portals , not a fielding creator viris and having a defined fading protocal.....the last strain of machina ver 2.0 became too dominate ... Im a country based player and a viris attack periodically is an activity encouraging source... The supply of extra gear on portal capture was helpful and suggest new players were encouraged to play. I like the senario of ingress using machinas/ viris attacks to promote and vary game play using variants of rewards and loss.
I'm for it with both hands! This is the only true option for machine development!
why so scared? it could spice up things in the static areas where same fields are up year in year out. Players in active areas would have something to do if no real agents play
Not that I'm scared.
But actually thinking of how others may find it in the long term.
We only have to look at the threads on this forum complaining about linking of Machina to understand that if Machina actively attacked player portals, this would end in tragedy for Ingress as a game.
Trying to find a balance that works for all, Urban, Suburban and Rural players is a really difficult problem
I just hope niantic did their lesson and if they return it better not be same old they spawn in dead areas only and this time they can throw fields 😳
@Grogyan I think that Machina could attack in limited ways and not be problematic. Perhaps if the portal was more than 50% decayed, L5 or below, and had been captured within the last two weeks? This would help the only player in an area have an opponent to play against.
Disagree, even at 50% decay most players will give up Ingress as a game if Machina attacks.
However, even if Machina Portals in close proximity to player portals increased player portal decay by an extra, say 10% might not bode well either.
If Machina fields over player portals, and increases the same decay rate, this may be viable.
Current decay I think is like 15% per day,
So adding a "Machina bias" for decay of 10% would entail a player portal will decay at 25% per day
Would players be OK with this game rule? I certainly do not know.
I cannot quite see the Zerg Cre ep being a thing in Ingress
However I do like the concept of a Zerg like Cre ep being in Ingress for Machina
So adding a "Machina bias" for decay of 10% would entail a player portal will decay at 25% per day
Would players be OK with this game rule? I certainly do not know. ....NO..
It's been forever since Starcraft but what does that mean? Like they would dominate the board?
And that's what it did yet again. Spawned in the same exact places it spawned the last times it showed up. Areas that are dead for a reason. Backs of parks, stuff in the middle of nowhere, people who play pogo, their backyards got red again too. Yay! meh.
Spawns under fields of any size. Spread under fields of any size. Doesn't cross links. That's about it. Same old sh*te, different day.
wow facepalm niantic
We are seeing spread of 3rd or more order, which more "organic" than before.
And the red is no where near as prolific as it was.
Seems like a win
