What constitutes as a trail marker?
I know we are supposed to reject mile markers, and I've seen many people try and name a mile marker a trail marker for this reason. Are the trail markers we are going to be approving the directional markers?

I want to know why people hate mile markers so much? I swear they basically are the only thing on some trails that could be submitted and they do help with having people explore if it says BB (bowman branch 2.25) 2.25 miles that is a trail marker i am sorry people trying to tell me a disc with the trail name and 911 is not a trail marker need to learn not all portals need to be pretty. I am sick of people trying to make excuses as to why a traffic circle is still valid with no pedestrian access while bike and hike trails are getting denied due to the visually unique factor sorry try again. I hate to say it but a lot of people are overly judging on trail markers.
because opr is subjective and biassed, people in the end can do whatever they want, that is why, but a trail marker in a mountain road or peak should go in and was actually mentioned in an AMA, same with plaques, signs and all that kind of stuff in natural features, is informative and very useful for the place, however ive seen submissions about mile signs in a running track and they dont look very different and can be argued but i dont think is the same as a trail marker in a natural feature
A mile marker is just an object with the milage indicated, nothing else.
Ama clarrifed these would not make good candidates.
A trail marker, or way marker, can be anything which marks the trail(s) and indicates the trail, be it a plastic disc or a fancy sign.
My point is why are we arguing about mile markers and most of the time they aren't in portal dense areas so lets be honest is putting a mile marker in the game going to hurr things no this is because we have people who can't understand sometimes somethings aren't unique but a mile marker is basically saying you have reached a certain point on the trail and people will go walk to hack the next mile marker and exercise and it does promote exploration for people thar walk trails. I think people have their standards to high and wonder why they can't find more portals to submit. We have people that think that they too good to submit a basketball court or playground. We also still have people trying to submit schools and gravestones along with taking photos out of the car and the support photo shows the inside door panel. I wish people would take a second look at how they look at the portal network.
My thoughts are that a trail marker denotes a unique area, and includes a sign with name of trail, or information about the trail. Encourages exploration of a natural area.
Mile marker is a post with a number. Not unique. Not much exploration on a walking track. I support approving basketball courts and playgrounds too, but they aren't popping up every 1/4 mile.
@CopperFennec yall keep missing the point trail marker says you are and so does a mile marker it is esentially the same thing as a geodestic marker some them have cordinates too so why do yall want to tell us that mile markers aren't a POI? A point of interest by defined by something that grabs peoples attention and people do stop and say so ive walked x amount of distance they are used as tool on recording exercise not just where you are
I've had about 75 trail markers approved. They also have mileage on the marker. I've had mile markers approved on walking paths in urban parks too. I'm permissive of those when I get them since it allows players to have something to interact with while they are out exercising. When I think of a mile marker, I think of one of those things on the side of higways/roads that are ubiquitous in the US.
@Astarg that is my policy in a nutshell.
I don't disagree with you.
But NIA have said to reject mile markers, so I do.
@LemoMcLemonFace i hate to tell you but most of the mile markers go live on trails i check my voting some don't it is the very basic ones. So the community obviosily votes how they feel about it. Just like how the community is not happy about pools niantic makes guidance but it is still up to the community to vote on it how they feel as long as it is accessible and isn't in areas niantic has said not to submit.
I haven't said they don't.
I'm saying they shouldn't.
Also not saying I agree with the ruling from the ama, but 8 follow it all the same.
If I can get around the "too new to post a link", this is what the trail markers that I submit look like. It also illustrates the usefulness of photoshperes in places streetview vehicles can't go.

Apparently, this doesn't count.
Not my submision, but it's where a hiking trail crosses a park road.
that is my point people are to subjective on the markers. It can't be more simple is it on a trail is it something to show you navigation or distance tracking or information about the trail.
If it marks the trail, accept, if it just marks a distance, with no mention of what it means, reject.
Looks like a wooden sign, pointing in the direction of something, doesn't mention its a trail - doesn't look like a trail, what description was used?
