The forgotten drone. I reached the Maverick medal in Onix, this time I waited for new functionalities for the drone but they did not arrive. Now my drone is abandoned somewhere. NIantic has other priorities for the game such as the 3D map, Machine which is helping to level up many players and helping to obtain medals to others by interacting with their portals. I wish the drone could be "turned off" by player so that NIA does not consume more servers with those that we consider no longer interesting because there is nothing more to get with the Drone in terms of medals or activities.

Ingress is just an app for proof of concepts at this point. A real life working app that Niantic can show investors how well they've brought ideas to life. I think the drone was a quick fix related to the pandemic, but like many other "features" inside Ingress, set aside for the latest and greatest "feature" that will bring back all the OG players that quit when redacted was officially dropped.
It's a bummer they more or less abandon some of these features because I really think fine tuning something like the drone is something that could help keep agents like myself engaged at different parts of the day when they're not able to be outside. At this point, the drone really still feels like it's at a beta release level still :/
Give the drones the ability to attack MACHINA, and possibly deploy one resonator. That would give the drone a useful purpose, and sort of even the battle with the Red Niantic Spoofer Bot.
The again, how could an actual active player have any idea on how to improve the game?
Giving Drones the ability to fly along links has a lot more extra gameplay possibilities.
But that isn't going to happen, the Drone is specifically for the Sojourner Badge.
I hack lots of lvl8 portals with it. Gives the good stuff.
