I'm traveling from Florida to Europe in May for a cruise, should I be concerned with CAL blockage?

    I dont see why

  • Evelyn315Evelyn315 ✭✭

Absolutely: I was just told I wasn't allowed to get to a portal that's literally on a road, at level 8.

I'd recommend doing some portal scans, to prove you were travelling.

    Just to be safe

Has "doing scans" proved that it does anything for CAL status? As far as I know, they don't check the scans as you do them, so how would it prove anything?

If it has, please provide some documentation or where someone at Niantic said that it does.

Scans have never been something to validate position at all.

    I'm doing all right.

Until someone gets banned for potentially spoofing.

As a player, if you haven't scanned at least one portal, you do not have any proof.

We do not want to lose any players.

Scans have always been something to validate position, as mentioned at a couple of GDC's

  • MoogModularMoogModular ✭✭✭✭✭

except the current scans we do have no verification for exact position

  • AzhreiaAzhreia ✭✭✭✭✭

Scans are not used to validate player actions or locations. Ops doesn't have access to that data either.

  • GrogyanGrogyan ✭✭✭✭✭

It actually is. This has been stated a number of times through various GDC presentations.

What you maybe confused with, is how the Ingress devs have implemented it, they have been less than forthcoming about how Ingress used that data.

    The data is there!

However, the OP asked specifically about CAL, we have precisely ZERO information about how it works, and what players need to achieve in order to access CAL portals when traveling.

I have zero information on this as well.

Seeing as many players all over the world fly by plane, helicopter, boat etc, safely, there is no indication.

There are some that are not on the forums that do not know the full saga about the spoofing problems of over 10 years.

Therefore, my statement, regardless of how many people disagree, or dislike the idea.

A couple of 15 second quality scans WILL provide players with evidence that they are there. Which they can state ina In Game ticket If things go south.

You do not have to scan every, single, thing!

A Vanguard is telling you no it's not. In the context of CAL and verifying location, it's not used for it.

Stop spreading misinformation as this is the not the first discussion about it.

Just keep playing, I didn't get locked out when I made it back to the southern continent and I don't scan anything. Make sure the boats internet doesn't put you in the location it is routing it's services through. Only do actions when you have good gps signal while outside.
