I haven't whined about this in a while... can we please recycle boosts?
I currently have 98 useless-to-me Apex boosts clogging my inventory and the only way to free up that space is to use them. I'm planning to recurse later this year and I would dearly love to free up those inventory slots for something useful. No, I don't want double AP after or before I recurse. I don't want AP for using them. I don't want to waste my time using them until they're gone... I just want a way to recycle them quickly.
(Fire up your disagree buttons, boys and girls, but there really is no reason that players shouldn't be able to recycle things that they've purchased.)

I absolutely agree about inventory control, there is no good reason we should not be able to recycle any item in our inventory. This game includes inventory management as a key concept. You should not be forced to either hold or use an item. Just because it came with a purchase should not mean it must be used. We bought it, why not be able to recycle it if we so choose?

Interesting take.
there really is no reason that players shouldn't be able to recycle things that they've purchased
That's how boosts have been coded as any other premium item. The only alternative is perhaps Thia removing them from your account.
The question is not how they have been coded, but why must they be done that way? Either give us inventory control by letting us delete them, or they should not count in the inventory total that is game limited and only increased through purchase.
There should be a manual request to remove such premium items if u really want since u cant gift them either
As was explained to you last time, before you go to bed, fire up 16 Apex, close the client, and don't play for 8 hours. Do that each night until they're gone. You will not gain AP.
Just because you won't use the solution that meets your requirements, doesn't mean your alternative idea is useful.
It's simple, and the same reason that every game does it like this.
If players accidentally recycle something that they paid money for, they will demand that the company restore the item, no matter that the player was at fault. And because it was paid for, the company will feel compelled to do it. Thus companies do not allow players to make the mistakes that will cause additional support headaches for the company.
"The company" is every mobile game company in the world. Not just Niantic.
Giving in to one or two mulish players demands will cost Niantic far more in support calls, than it would gain from those players who have openly said they won't pay for these items. The player paying for nothing is not the player they will protect.
@Perringaiden As I said above, that's a waste of my time and it alters my stats in ways that I don't want to have my stats altered. It's not a solution, and it's not a general solution to all of the other boosts that I've been accumulating over time.
Not every game does this. In fact, not every Niantic game does this. In Pokemon Go I have recycled stacks of things that I paid for, with nothing more than an additional "Are you sure?" to confirm. Even more interesting, it's not even consistent within Ingress. I can buy Hypercubes, Power Cubes, Kinetic Capsules, and other items and recycle them with glorious abandon. The only things I can't recycle are boosts and key lockers. I'm firmly of the opinion that if it's a fungible item that I should be able to recycle it. We shouldn't be able to recycle key lockers because they can't be replaced.
They can, actually. There was a bug a while back that actually let you delete premium items and I decided to delete one of my Key Lockers to test it. The second I did that I was able to purchase another one in the store again (video below, start at 51s), so except for the permanent Kinetic Capsule (which apparently is coded differently in the shop), all of the premium items can be rebought if they're deleted.
From what I remember, Hosette ignored doing that as well. It's another "me me me" topic.
smells like hypocrisy. you claim to get your ap from playing similarly as an agent that did not purchase anything.. well, did you always stop hacking when your inventory got past 2000 items? i'm guessing not, and having those extra items lets you get more ap by having more items available for your op. please stop this nonsense, thank you
Stop being a purist crybaby & move on with changing times, @Hosette
I think the desire to manage my inventory effectively and efficiently is a reasonable request.
It's generally the case that when you resort to ad hominem attacks you've lost the debate.
Never the less, it seems that this is a problem for just a (very vocal) minority, and there exists working alternatives to get rid of those boosts, although it will "earn" the agent 500-1000 APs. Meanwhile deploying the first reso on a portal gives 675 points, and the first hack of the day 500 points, so deploying a boost and then ignoring it is basically neglible in the grand scheme of things, and personally I hope the dev team is working on something more important.
Sounds like someone is a core subscriber. Just remove the subscription and they will stop accumulating. It's a benefit of the program you signed up for.
You can recycle Kinetic capsules. You mostly have to purchase them these days....but you can recycle them...
So what you are saying, it is possible for Ingress to code the game so you can delete those items. Now, how do we request they implement it?
A second warning in red would be enough for me, but to make absolutely sure, Niantic could also have a three second cooldown before you can recycle them.
Alternativly, have it as a checkbox in the settings that unlocks the ability to recycle premium items, just like how they do it for mass transfers for rare Pokemon in Go.
@InvestigateXM Yes, absolutely!
Inventory management is a key component of Ingress, and I really don't see a good reason why people should be prohibited from efficiently managing their inventory for a class of items.
Just activate then and don't play for 30 minutes
Have you ever reached out to @NianticThia about it? I mentioned it in a previous topic as her flex role allows her to access accounts to fix issues. She can remove the boosts from your account (as she has fixed people's accounts related to the original kcap).
@MoogModular I've reached out to support and they said no.
Even if Thia could help once that still doesn't solve the general case of people wanting to manage their inventories.
As I said above, that's a waste of my time
Not to rain on your personal pity parade, but Ingress is specifically a game designed to consume time. It serves no real purpose so if you're choosing to play Ingress, you can't really complain about time wasting with a straight face. (People do, but it's absurd).
It is a solution for the two players who complain about this to each other and then post on the forums.
In Pokemon Go I have recycled stacks of things that I paid for, with nothing more than an additional "Are you sure?" to confirm.
Games that sell things that you can regularly obtain for free allow them to be recycled. Ingress does this. You cannot destroy things that can only be bought in both Pokemon Go and Ingress. It's consistent if you stop intentionally narrowing your focus to put things out of context. The only items you can only buy and never hack are boosts and key lockers. cue Pikachu face
The system is consistent both within Ingress, and within Pokemon Go. You just are knowingly and intentionally misrepresenting that system to claim your point is valid.
The amount of time you've spent complaining on the forums about this far exceeds the "wasted time" it would have taken for you to fire off those Apex before bed...
She's received her answer repeatedly.
She wasn't kidding when she said she hadn't whined about this in a while.
It's the strange ingress purist mentality. One shouldn't get ap from things not actionable in game. If worried about stats being inaccurate you would think she would ask to have her illuminator stats fixed to show actual mu captured instead of an error with a glitched field. But that's ok and getting ap from a boost is bad. Makes no sense.
Even her purist argument has no holding.
We receive AP for glyphing, fireworks, recharging (the amount of AP has changed multiple times), beacons, and to top it all off the bonuses have changed on the AP you receive for deploying the first and last resonator on a portal or knocking a mod off a portal. l
This is perhaps one of the weirdest hills to d.i.e on, Hosette. I'm glad Thia laughed about it in a reply to you. You're really showing yourself as a Veruca Salt.
There will always be two types of agents: (a) complainers who always find problems and counter-arguments to the solutions presented to them; and (2) problem solvers who are resourceful and pivot when shown with challenges. It's already Spring 2023; time to move on and solve your problem, Baby Smurf.
@Otrera35 @MoogModular There will always be two kinds of people in discussions like this. One is people who discuss the issue being presented and the other is people who resort to making it personal. Thank you both for showing your colors.
I maintain that my request is simple and reasonable: I would like to be able to manage my inventory effectively and efficiently, including boosts.
@Hosette , it seems the only solution you prefer is for Niantic to remove all your Apex from your account. Other agents probably have the same problem, but they were able to solve their inventory problems. Niantic is not an inventory-solving valet. There are other important issues here, such as spoofing and game latency, that need to be addressed. Kindly pivot and find a feasible solution to your inventory problem and make your team proud of what you can accomplish.
Having the option to recycle purchased items is a valid request and wouldn't be bad if implemented (locked behind a flag in options and/or multiple warning when doing so)
But it isn't something that needs to be high up on the list of things Niantic needs to work on.
