How does the OPR location setting work?

How does the OPR location setting work? I set a marker in a place and what's the diameter of the search are of that marker? Like how far will it search?

What happens when i don't set my location?

So the general consensus is that around 1/3 of the candidates you will review will be in the 8 cells around your current s2 level 6 cell and including the one you are in. Your other candidates that you review will generally be either geographically the same country or nearby bordering countries which are extremely close. For example in Texas I see Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Alaska candidates along with many other US States. I rarely do get out of the country such as a random Mexico candidate every 200 reviews or another random country periodically (have had Japan too).

When you choose a Home location it seems like at least for me that it causes the same s2 cell effect as the current cell you are reviewing in. My home location is in the Detroit and I am pretty sure that around 1/3 of my reviews are now from there.

Unfortunately I don't have any idea how impactful bonus locations are because my current bonus location doesn't have enough submitters even though both pogo and ingress players can submit there. I think I ran out of candidates to review when I initially choose it as bonus location within a month so I rarely see 2 to 5 candidates every week now since I review around 500 candidates in a week.

Keep in mind most of the information is still just theories and that you can only review to compare and contrast from the data of where other reviewers get candidates for. I think the only known fact is the s2 cell theory for your current location among the things that you review since people have visualized this data a few times on the OPR subreddit.

  • See the problem is i keep getting this message "There are no portals available to analyze at this time." and when i retry to many times, it goes into infinite loading and nothing happens after that. (After sometimes i retry and i get few candidates and then back to the same message) My theory, i'm certain of it, this is happening because there's no "edits" left nearby to review. And the message is meant for that .. Anyway, it's pretty much impossible to run out of candidates to review in my country. (7th largest country and with millions of Ingress and PGO players)

So basically what i'm wondering is, if setting bonus and hometown location going to make any difference..? Currently i'm getting candidates from all over the country and i'm fine with that. No reason to set any bonus or hometown.

@SouLPrison3r If you are running out of candidates to review you want to set a bonus or home location to an urban dense area. That way you will never run out of candidates to review. If you are a casual reviewer then go with the bonus location that doesn't have too many reviewers.

For example if you are in the US, you could run out of candidates to review in a rural area however if you choose a bigger city say like Houston, you will never run out of candidates to review thereby giving you upgrades to prioritize and speed up your local submissions.

There are many urban spaces that geographically result in more and less reviewers. I know for a fact because the North side of the US has constant snow ins where you get trapped at home, a lot of ingress agents tend to review in that free time. Meanwhile in the South side of the US like Houston that never happens so as a result agents are a lot less likely to review since they could be playing the game.

@msz21 Seems like you missed my point. My place didn't run out of candidates, it ran out of "Edits" I think it's more of OPR issue. Hopefully they'll fix this in very near future.

Common sense and observation. Analysed 100's of candidates, but not a single "Edit" for days. After every few analyses done, i get this message.

I get nomination from all over my country (Size: 3.28 million square km.) It's impossible to run out of candidate(at least for now) Even if nomination was halted from today, it would take months before it starts to dry run.

And most importantly even after this message if i retry in few mins, i get more candidates. You could say maybe somebody nominated new candidates in that time... Nah, many times candidates have date and time stamps on them(which i 1*) to prove this theory wrong as well. And another thing is it's the same when i analyse candidate at/after midnight. Doubt if someone is nominating so many candidates after 1-2 AM.
