Should be no surprise. They got rid of some of whatever devs they had. Then seemingly have suddenly decided that certain things are most important (such as a new icon, and actually giving a **** about their tutorial.

  • I for one welcome back my feed of nearby activities.

I was hoping it would return by the end of this year but seems it will come next year earliest.

I read this as they are bringing in Agent Ops Tasks that were slated for the Q3 phase 2 and phase 3 but we're canned due to Agent Ops being not ready.

Ingress is a very mature game, one that has a lot of different metrics, bringing a Task system into this is no easy feat. By comparison, the Uniques, Scans etc rings we got took themselves several months to put in place.

It worked for Hexathons and that was 3+ years ago pre-pandemic. We already tested it for them months ago. It's more like they need to invest some dev hours into working on it and spend less time working on other **** that people never wanted or needed. They could of been working on Agent Ops, but for some reason the overclock feature was pushed out ahead (and really buggy (is it still buggy? I haven't even bothered with it since then, since its not really all that useful to me at least (hard to scan stuff when people are present))) of Agent Ops. We don't get a roadmap, because its scatter shot from them. They jump all over the place to things that aren't needed, but they still spend time on them, release something buggy, and never go back and polish it up. I mean, the best way to know when it's Monday is to fire up Ingress. If you see Fitrep the first 3 times you log in, it's Monday. It does nothing special. It doesn't keep track of the amount of times in a month/week or even all time that you hit whatever goal they have for all agents. It's useless.

Hexes years ago were fun, the player interface for their progress was basic.

The MZFPK was a shambles, and I am super grateful that New Zealand was the first country to get their hands on a proper task system. Solve the critical issues before Australia players got it, because otherwise the forums and chats would have berated the devs.

But it worked, at a basic level, and clear that a LOT more work needed to be done.

As for why Overclock overtook Agent Ops? Maybe it was a little more further on in development? Maybe the Lightship Team needed more development of VPS enabled content that Niantic Corp (John Hanke?) made the call to make it it happen.

I don't know, this is all speculation.

Whoever worked on hexathlons was sacked sometime during the pandemic. That's kind of why it's mutated to Agent Ops.

There's some **** that gets pushed from even above Brian. The entire scanning thing still feels so counterintuitive to anything of Ingress.

The lack of any innovation because the technology is really pushing Lightship more than anything else. Even seeing some of the 8th Wall entries for the AR challenge is embarrassing. People were using an idea but Ingress was an after thought to tie into their projects. One was just an AR of Ingress trivia.

The 8thWall WebAR entries for Ingress are for the most part not that good.

And not sure if this was just because of time limitations, or limitations of the 8thWall platform.

Difficult for innovation Ingress style when you don't have access to the Ingress wayspot database.

Having a Tecthulhu account would mean that some data could have been parsed to allow for more innovative demos.

The number of Tecthulhu's around is less than a handful, and not sure what if any, plans are for the Tecthulu API will be available for more players? Eg requiring at least 3 Recursions before a Tecthulhu account would be activated.

When hasn’t Ingress been the testing ground for other Niantic products? Probably the only reason Ingress is still around honestly. Thousands of people beta testing features they can use to make money elsewhere, brilliant. Even if it doesn’t make sense for Ingress…

Perhaps our community manager will weigh in on this.

  • mortuusmortuus ✭✭✭✭✭

Does it make sense scan button has dissapear for many?

  • PkmnTrainerJPkmnTrainerJ ✭✭✭✭✭

Best of luck with that. I don’t think @NianticThia has logged in this month. Maybe someone attending the Kobe anomaly can ask.

  • ZeroHecksGivenZeroHecksGiven ✭✭✭✭✭

Most of what Niantic does with this game doesn’t make any sense in my opinion. Just another bug in this case…

  • mortuusmortuus ✭✭✭✭✭

Yeah. if only a bug made weekly fitbit dissapear instead lol..

  • MoogModularMoogModular ✭✭✭✭✭

Niantic is not going to give out the Tecthulhu API...

  • MoogModularMoogModular ✭✭✭✭✭

Since IFU wants to keep mentioning the term community manager, that position has not been filled since Krug left. I think IFU should keep up with the program on the specifics.

  • PkmnTrainerJPkmnTrainerJ ✭✭✭✭✭

Good point. I need to keep remembering the role that was created was the Community Specialist role.

  • PkmnTrainerJPkmnTrainerJ ✭✭✭✭✭

So Q4 stuff is all out, and no AgentOps. Do we think it will resurface before March 2024?

  • GrogyanGrogyan ✭✭✭✭✭

If 2.126.1 has had the refinements added to Agent Ops for certain people who have tried it out.

Then it may be ready to deploy once everyone has updated to the new version
