What's the current plot anyway? Niantic barely communicates to its players about almost anything, like events. So, we don't expect them to communicate anything about the plot or storyline. This is just another capture-the-flag game that allows adults to vent their Id-like expression and aggression that they cannot constructively express towards others in the real world.
We started "moving" last year when the Klue, Hank, and PAC character designs were updated. If people are only commenting on the Black character, it suggests they've got a problem with the Black character.
