If you just play around your local block and walk in the park, i believe it's great. In a circle of 20km around my town a lot of red portals appeared and with nobody taking them down, this is becoming a nightmare. I've seen spoofers over the past years that didn't as much damage as this red faction does.
Its even making me considering to stop playing Ingress in a way I love, with making bigger fields than a walk in the park, and planning semi or national operations to throw a real big field with a lot of planning. These big operations attracted a lot of people in the past, people now are just backing of because they have to destroy the red portals. I am waiting for this red thing to disappear completely, so I can finally can plan a operation again... With real players.
@NianticOfficial please reconsider this automated faction in your game. Its just making no sense at all.
Just put an expiration date on the red portals. If nobody takes them down they should go away. They should only have a certain amount of time to be red. I like the theory of them but some minor tweaking could alleviate many of the concerns.
Machina got out of control and probably the original idea, this is perception
One cannot speak of fair play when the dispute is between a real player and a computer Bot with the ability to falsify location to capture portals without access and cross their links and their own.
There's no justice when you drive 50 to 100 kilometers for hours clearing blocks from real people and at the end of the day realize you can't close your layers because a RED LOCATION FAKER went through a red link using a portal completely without access to any real player . Where is the justice in that? This seems to mean:
You are clowns, drive another 100km and go neutralize the blockade that the machina location spoofer has created.
Hundreds of areas and cities around the world that were active are giving way only to red portals. It's because? Because real players seem to say. WE ARE NOT CLOWNS TO COMPETE WITH A FAKE BOT WITH SUPERPOWERS BIGGER THAN YOURS.
P.S1: Recruiting is not a solution, it is utopia.
P.S2: Recruit = Come be a NIA clown, hit the streets, waste time and your real world resources against a LOCATION FAKE BOT.
Do you have any stats on what happens when a new agent or agents start playing in a town that is completely red? Do they know how to destroy the red, and are they able to link/field and start playing the game. Or do they just see everything as captured, and when they try to hack the portal, get zapped and lose ALL of the XM and decide to quit the game?
I'm asking because I'm seeing more and more towns that have been basically Ingress ghost towns for years (all PoGO towns) that are completely red. No neutral portals at all. Me and a few other local agents were discussing this over the weekend. If it's hard enough when one faction or the other controls most of the area. But, if it's red and you hack it, you get ALL of your XM zapped away. That seems like it would cause most potential new agents to outright quit the game. If the tutorial tells you to hack a portal to gain gear, and you get zapped and XM goes buh bye, then what? I'm sure the tutorial was NOT updated for the Machina "event".
Any plans on updating the tutorial to address this for new agents? Or is there something you can change in your software that would allow for some portals to remain neutral?
1-In my case, I let it grow for personal purposes. I don't stop playing, it's like I'm focusing in other badges.
2-I am watching the neighbouring towns which are mainly POGO dominated and I can see some activity. It seems like red cities are promoting sightseeing (they are cultural cities as well).
3-I did the tutorial with an agent several months ago. Yes, the portals appear neutral to the scanner.
If the portal has no access, you should report it right away @Millopai
wowwww red tourism π±π±π± now you overdid the Fake Bot Machina defense
Portal without access (at the moment) does not mean illegal portal. It means that in the current base of players there are no players to access the place. A condominium, for example, therefore, should be neutral and not being captured and released blocking links by a fake bot
before traveling more than 30 kilometers. machine had already blocked the base
And before you say it: It was just to have captured all the portals. If there was a telephone signal and access it would be great
There is no point in spending human and financial resources to compete with a console bot. The proposed ingress was never this.
Another case
machina captured a portal in a gated community. That is, it uses the base and there is no way to neutralize it. Seems fair?
That is, machina in fact, seems to compete with real players in an operation with fake GPS on the console. this is definitely not healthy
This was one of the busiest cities in Brazil. So the question that machina is designed for cities without players is a complete lie. players are definitely abandoning the game because there is no justice in running down the street and wasting your resources against an insane console
I'm not going to travel all over the area (including areas that are 100+ (160+ km) miles) away to clean it every week or two. If a new agent pops up there, hacks a few times, gets zapped, no xm, and quits. I'd never see it. Most wouldn't see it. Yet another lost potential agent.
Now that factions have a common enemy, it could lead to new conversations. I'm not saying that the factions should "cooperate" at 100%, but maybe this would help to decrease the toxicity of some communities.
If you are not willing to sit down and dialogue, would you continue to neglect the situation until Machina would have burnt your house already?
This is a win-lose scheme and communities are betting enemy would be busted before theirs. Haha.
i understand your concern, but whenever I see a new agent pops up in the comms tab, I PM on the faction chat. Most of the times I do not get a reply either haha.
....By this console BOT and expect you to have "fun" spending resources against a virtual opponent in a game that should be IN THE REAL WORLD!!!! Wake up before they completely destroy the ingress (Or is that the intention?π€π€), there's no fun or competition against this red sea of console.
Can real players use the same location spoofing systems that Machina uses to access restricted portals and dozens of unreachable portals and do their homework? If you can it would be great. But going through an entire city to capture all the portals, keep all the keys, (As if the inventory were infinite) and have thousands of cubes to prevent decay. Well, I think this "option" is totally and absurdly detached from the reality of the game. It comes across as irony or sarcasm.
What doesn't make sense for thousands of real players is to compete in the real world against something that harms you in an automated way and with a huge difference in powers, restrictions, attributes and unlimited possibilities.
The unauthorized spoofers and cheaters have been replaced by something far worse. Congratulations to the creators πππ ππΌππΌππΌππΌ (That was irony)
So do i. I'm not going to hunt down some red spoofer or bot or automated **** is doing. Done something, but i can't even destroy some portals near my place, they are on a park closed due winter season. After a few months, someone can come at least to the conclusion that this part of the game makes no sense? Or is that guy from the wayfarer forum behind this? That one, who got caught by a spoofer that made hem remove the Camp Navarro portals on Antarctica..
I really like this comment. The groups are unconsciously betting who will be busted first. Which team will be able reduce the damage while the other is getting harmed on purpose? That is strategy as well.
I said it before, red is way too agressive for a npc they need to downtune or atleast make so red portals can decay or something...
What is the goal for niantic, seems the amount of portals red infects just increases week by week,, what is the goal here if agents stops playing because there is so much red u will need to invest many hours just to clear blocks, and all new agents will they understand after tutorial whats going on ??
I agree with the first part, not with the latter. You are only speaking for veteran ones, not newbies. Newbies don't know what the cell score is and they usually link like Machina. Do you know what's the problem with the veterans sometimes towards the newbies? They are so blind with the cell score that they start to bully newer agents until they change the faction or quit the game, that's the biggest threat towards them and not Machina.
One of the biggest complaints about how the game was last year were BAFs because they capped the growth of agents. Now the situation is being reversed and I think Machina is doing its work too, same as quantum removal.

I haven't been able to come up with a counter-strategy. Would you like to share yours?

Look istanbul and tell me things are under control there @Neku69 π€
You still do not get it:
If you do not have enough players = recruit
If you have linking issues because you cannot get your desired BAF, you can either clean the area or change your plans.
If you are not aware of it, I am having troubles with Machina as well, but rather than complaining on the forum. I'm working on different strategies.
Furthermore, Machina is giving the other faction the possibility to an equal level when they are heavily outnumbered, such as this case.
Recruiting is basically impossible. If we could recruit more ppl we would have done it years ago. Hardcore ingress agents are like hens teeth.
Also recruit, go **** all those red portals, then do it again, and again, and ...
Uh, people's lives are more important. Especially when they just went through 2 more earthquakes.
Just put an expiration date on the red portals. If nobody takes them down they should go away. They should only have a certain amount of time to be red. I like the theory of them but some minor tweaking could alleviate many of the concerns.
yeah goodluck recruiting with the ongoing lag and other issues, im sure that will work

Really interested in this answer (which we will never get)...
Especially so since they intended to alter the new agent process by REMOVING low level XMPs...
It would make it IMPOSSIBLE for new agents to do anything in red covered areas
1-In my case, I let it grow for personal purposes. I don't stop playing, it's like I'm focusing in other badges.

@NianticOfficial and @NianticBrian and the others in office rooms traded this real game......

Welcome to Ingress Prime Year 10. Where we don't like fields is this year's slogan!
If you capture all your portals in an area, Machina cannot expand...
We now have areas which will NEVER be reclaimed due to the size of the infection.
If these were humans making R1s, you'd be loving destroying them all... This statement makes no sense.
Can real players use the same location spoofing systems that Machina uses to access restricted portals and dozens of unreachable portals and do their homework? If you can it would be great. I support that comment.
Machina doesn't help gameplay anymore.

When the other side actively leaves things alone to break fields when the time is right.

Absolutely.
