[Discussion] Increase Power Of Lower Level XMPs
This was briefly discussed on the IUENG Telegram chat, but I thought bringing it here could generate some good ideas as well.
As we all know low level XMPs are entirely useless (no, annoying someone with notifications with L1 XMPs is not a valid use), not even new players use them until they get to level 4+.
I thought that increasing the power of everything below level 8, damage only, not range, could help in several ways:
~ New players can actually do something instead of feeling useless. That new and keen level 4 player could feasibly go take down that big field covering the city
~ No longer need to recycle them, even level 8+ players can **** them off and be useful instead of giving portals a light tickle
~ Help solo players who depended on Qcaps for gear actually be more effective
~ Encourage smaller groups to meet up to farm instead of being fully reliant on 8 people at once. Being 1 person short due to a last minute emergency always sucked, and the power difference between 7 and 8 always hurt
I came up with some values which I think strike the balance of not being super crazy buffs, not useless, and still maintain a modest power lead of L8 XMPs:

Yeah, I agree to some extent, specially if lvl 8 players can make p5 portals
Nice idea and i am not against it - i just wonder if it would practically make a remarkable difference.
Whats nowadays practically in field are low lvl portals with normal mods not 24/7 observed by owners so no instant recharge, if at all. I am unsure if 10% more or less bursters would make a difference.
The usual other finding is p7/p8 heavily shielded and addicted players behind hitting recharge just some seconds later. Then its rly the same impossible approach whatever you throw on these unless you dont have plenty of us and x8 hoping for a lag in recharge triggers over time..
Interesting idea, yeah xmps are kinda useless until u hit lvl 5 atleast.
Didn't Niantic say at some point they were reworking the agent tutorial and removing low level XMPs (because of their uselessness)?

That sounds familiar. But we all know by this point, Niantic says one thing, but rarely ever finishes much of what they do. How many newer features have been released, but never updated or completed? I'm sure someone has a list somewhere.
Actually, found this via quick Google search. Looks like they did increase damage for lower level xmps back in the early Prime days.

New Agent Tutorial updates, including removing L1-L3 XMPs from Portal and Drone Hacks to show new Agents how to play different parts of Ingress as they level up.
Interesting, I think they could still use a power boost though.
I hope so. I was playing this game since the beta release and I don't recall on making any use of lv1-3 XMPs. Now that Machina is a thing it would help new agents to destroy them (and 8+ level agents would help us to not waste our precious lv6-8 XMPs, now that QC are gone).
Someone will need to do science, since they've never actually been noticed doing more.
So get out that time machine...
Huh? I mean do it now, since no-one's ever updated the numbers.
