Yup. Red factions is out of hand completely in our area too. Plays from portals in paid parks, inaccessible during winter time, crosses rivers, crosses borders!!! Like it has been set up now, game will be dead within a few months. The red team is too aggressive and for my feeling, even links actively near anchors just to be a pain in the *. We played against spoofers, they would give up after a while. Now these red portals, linking, gives even spoofers Another upper hand. They spoof an anchor which can not be rebuild easily, before wasting three - four hours clearing red faction across the whole line.
Nice job agent, field established, control field established. You control nothing.
This has to be changed. There is no way. Let us play against eachother.
I agree too, Machina portals are way too aggressive and spreads so much it is impossible to clean them by foot or bike.
I think the spreading should follow stricter rules.
Here is a set of rules I think would be interesting:
-There should be one "Master" portal per Machina nest.
-Master Machina portal can create Slave Machina portals around itself (500meters max ?)
-Slave and Master Machina portals can link to each other and to Leech portal that they can capture in a X km radius (X=5?)
-Leach portal do nothing except decaying if their link is broken.
-When destroyed, the Master Machina portal transfers to a Slave Machina Portal it created (500meters max ?)
These rules would allow players to totally remove a Nest in a reasonable amount of walking but still allow it to make the big links I think Niantics wants.
I'm not seeing a huge takeover by these red portals. In areas with no players I see them but if there's no players to begin with I'm not sure it's really an issue. The entire point of these is to give areas with little activity more things to do. If there's nobody in those areas then it's not a big deal.
But when it's in a little town, with one or two player living nearby but not in it, it's impossible to clean everything in a reasonable amount of time. So they neutralize portal when they are close to them (when they travel or have something to do in the town) or need to pass a link trough it. But it grow back and spread even more.
For now the only solution I see is capture all portals one and for all and never let them down.
I think the realization is that you can't let this stuff spread. You knock it down the second you see a portal. Instead of being reactive to machina, you need to be proactive.
Scan intel map, you see red portal, you go smash before it becomes 3 red portals when you wake up the next morning and then 7 when you get home from work, etc, etc....
It's a ****-a-mole game. Go k|ll all the red stuff, make it all your faction, and you get a week of rest for that area, before it starts turning red again. You can alternatively keep those areas portals charged, to further keep it from turning red and blocking you. But sooner or later, the sheer amount of keys in your inventory will make that nearly worthless because then you can't play because you have a few hundred keys you don't need, but if you don't keep it recharged, its a hike back out to the back of that park, or the two portals some pogo mofo made along mile 6 of some trail, because it backs up to their backyard, ect.
Depends on box. My box the only really troublesome spots are college campuses and parks. Otherwise unless it's on a big link it gets dealt with fairly quickly.
When it first started it was an interesting concept, on my experience it was only appearing just outside where there were active gameplay and worked as an encouragement to just walk that bit further to take them out.
But recently the dial seems to have been turned up and it has got out of hand.
I generally play on foot and play the microfielding game while visiting new places. However, this has started to become impossible with the long cross links which are being produced which cross ring roads, rivers, inaccessible or paid areas. If an opposition player had gone to these remote places then fair enough, you would try to clear them before you start. But this is getting too much with the cross links now and I can see myself just resorting to single deploys
Although, I agree that having Machina does create activity for those without opposition, there needs to be some rules applied to Machina otherwise this is just going to drive players away, and these are both players who microfield on foot an BAF by car.
Something along the lines of:
-No cross links (either its own or other players)
-Links limited to 1km unless Machina portal is within 500 metres of an active player portal.
-Machina portal can continue to create slave Machina portals nearby.
-Machina can only capture portals captured by a human player in the past 12 months.
-Both slave and master Machina portals can link to each other (with no cross links) and create fields, however the linked portals can only be a set radius from the master portal.
By applying rules such as this it would allow links in the middle of nowhere but still be possible to play when you arrive in a deserted town with a little bit of effort and still require some effort to set up a BAF in the area. And the bigger links are only in areas where there has been some activity, so has the potential to be taken down.
It's just not funny anymore. Contacted support about it, but they just refuse to give any usable answer. This red faction should be stopped as soon as possible.
The inactive portals can be single portals in inaccessible areas that spread links across heavily used/fielded areas. So its not just impacting areas that are inactive.
Machina links are killing the game for me. My playing has reduced drastically because of it.
I enjoy fielding but Machina links are making it a PITA. Having to drive to clear AI links which are usually in awkward places that no one rarely goes. I did this the other day as I was shopping nearby and planned to field the next night but more links were back blocking again. The other end still needed more cleaning too.
Even micro-fielding in town is being screwed up by long machina links going through the blue blob of what was already there.
As others have said, I don't mind clearing links made by real people on the opposing team but clearing AI links, who are more active and more problem causing than the enemy... no thanks.
The system is not working in it's current form and it going to lead to less playing by many. I can't play how I played before, so I'm playing a lot less
I'm enjoying the machina portals. It gives me more to do and easy ap. If there are blockers then take them down. It's no different just because it's red. If you don't like driving and playing Ingress then don't. It's not supposed to be a driving game anyway. They are working like they are supposed to. Inaccessible portals just add another element to the game. It's always been a part of the game to enjoy. Niantic knows what they are doing. Embrace it.
There are only one thing to do to make Niantic listen. And that is money. Cancel your C.O.R.E subscription and don't buy from the store until the way machina works has changed to better.
I would love to come to local places to burst machina portals and microfield with their resources.
But right now it for out of hand for Niantic, and that is really sad.
For me the red faction is elusive. Because I control all the portals in my area I have to travel to find it. Though for the first time ever a red link prevented me making a link recently. But overall, and as a player with no real competition, I wish it was more active, and that there was a way to trigger it. I leave large groups of portals unclaimed in hopes of an infection.
A big issue I'm seeing is portals are levelling up and healing despite failing to link. It's causing hard hike and walk portals to start spraying links out long distances
Red faction is a great addition to the game, but it does need to not just take over everything like it is currently doing. Some amount of red spreading then largely decaying after some time is needed.

Wonder what server loads induced with 3.4 million portals doing link blocker calculations at once?
i really think it's ok like it is now.
no more long links without any efforts.
I wonder your intel map in ur region.

Look istanbul and tell me things are not out of control there 😐️

they are in controle of machina

Generally speaking Machina Portals won't always reappear until the next Septicycle.
At least this is my experience.
This leaves plenty of time to formulate a plan that is time efficient

Its getting to the point here that in certain areas its now nigh on impossible to field without a lot of clearing. And i don't mean big fields.
When it first started it was an interesting concept, on my experience it was only appearing just outside where there were active gameplay and worked as an encouragement to just walk that bit further to take them out.

It's nuts. Destroyed everything i could find at a local town. Guess what, came back, very much meeehhhhhhh
It's just not funny anymore. Contacted support about it, but they just refuse to give any usable answer. This red faction should be stopped as soon as possible.
Three things I'd like to see happen with Machina:
1) No more cross-linking
2) Give it the ability to micro-field
3) They need to decay completely after a certain amount of time
It should just no crosslink thru existing links.
The inactive portals can be single portals in inaccessible areas that spread links across heavily used/fielded areas. So its not just impacting areas that are inactive.

So we should just dump any keys further than walking distance, sbul, link amps and just do our local areas?
Disingenuous.

Ok really exegarating. Only after 2 hours i cleared a blocker (crosslink) suddenly a new one appeared . 🙈
Still no word from @NianticBrian isn't it... It's a hidden agenda so i might stop playing when this dumb thing is done.
