We could advise a newbie: You only get trekker credit while Ingress is open, UNLESS you also install Adventure Sync." Then they'd know they can skip the step if the"y want.
Yes, I have Ingess open at all times. So I don't need Adventure Sync.

You need to walk 8km to get them to run.
Need to have all the "ingredients fit for the program to run.
Other than that, probably need more info as to what you've done.
You need to have Adventure Sync enabled to track walking, and the required ingredients for the program plus the prerequisite XM to begin a program.
You don't have to use Adventure Sync. I don't. My phone tracks my activity just fine.
So all that walking distance you'd normally do not playing Ingress, wouldn't be counted towards your Kinetics.

If you have Adv Sync enabled, when you roll around the office on your chair, you get credit for your kcaps. 😉
