Retiring Quantum Capsule [Discussion]

Since the launch of the Rare Kinetic Capsule, we have detected a new bonding between Agents’ XM Sensitivity and their health that did not exist with the Quantum Capsule – the only other type of XM-Construct-creating Capsule.
The NIA has therefore decided to replace each Quantum Capsule in the XM Network with one Rare Capsule and one Rare Kinetic Capsule within the coming weeks. The contents of any existing Quantum Capsules will be moved to the Rare Capsule.
The Quantum Capsule will no longer be hackable from the XM Network, and any existing passcode that included a Quantum Capsule will now return a Rare Kinetic Capsule going forward.
The Rare Kinetic Capsule will also be available via the in-app Ingress Store at 2,000 CMU.
NIA is working on making new Kinetic Capsule Programs available in the Scanner. Ideas under consideration include refining Portal Mods into Resonator or XMPs, and Portal Keys to Portal Keys.

I for one think it's a wrong move. I for one use some of my Quantums as a way to get a bit more xmp8 since I have no active farms near me. I think alot of people are going to be upset about this wrong(to be polite) move.
Leave the existing Quantums in-game. Change the passcodes if you will, make the capsule un-hackable if you want. Just leave them be in-game with the same mechanics as now(they are nerfed enough already).
Sad to see the QCap go, but I get it. The KCap makes more sense for a location-based game and the QCap only exists because it was sponsored by a bank (MUFG) so the devs thought an interest-bearing capsule was appropriate.
What I'm not excited about, though, is that we're losing out on a good deal of items that can be replicated using KCaps. I use QCaps almost exclusively for generating KCap ingredients nowadays, and I definitely can't hack enough rare mods on my own to keep my KCaps stocked. There needs to be an overhaul of how recipes work to make them more comprehensive.
There could be better ways to make 'quantums' require more activity.
For example a new item in the capsule every 1km, to name one.

Also, no programs to dupe keys, lets keep that "feature" in the past where it belongs.
All measures against users, it seems that the only thing they do is look for changes to annoy those who are still playing ... 🙄
At least leave the keys reproduction, everything else is non important...
So I have 18 Quantum Capsules. Does this mean I get 18 Rare Capsules AND 18 Rare Kinetic Capsules? 🤔

Fair enough, this could be the lesser of two evils if it can help deal with lag.
However, folks use their Quantum Capsules differently to Kinetic Capsules.
I use my QC’s for duplicating Common and Rare mods, Keys, Resonators and XMP, while I use my KC’s to generate VR Mods, usually SoftBanks.
Currently, we have no KC recipes for common and rare mods, XMP or Resonators between R2-R7 or keys.
hopefully, there will be a large expansion to the recipes we can craft with the kinetic capsules, possibly even a standard tiered (Bronze to Onyx badge to overhaul this feature.
I welcome this change, so long as we have suitable replacements for how we use our QCs.
This is a terrible idea. I live in an out of the way area and rarely see other players, so I rely on Quantums to bake high level gear and keys for hard to reach places.

I was happy they'd remove this "getting unlimited keys out of nowhere" feature until I saw they think to do key -> key in a Kinetic capsule.
Niantic, listen. The one and only way to obtain a key for a portal (and thus threat linking and covering some huge areas using it) should be to get to the portal IRL and hack it. If you wanna link then you go hack first. It should be really that simple.
You go to a portal occasionally for keys, you link. You don't go, you don't link. Healthy gameplay, no infinite resources.
Those who disagree, please do argument your stance for key duplication other than "I want to have keys while doing nothing".
So we have any sort of warning before this will go live or any sort of guarantee stuff we currently have inside caps won't go poof with the transition when it happens?

Smart move to counter inactive accounts that only exist to create more items (mainly keys) to active accounts.
However it would be nice to get these new programs as soon as the Qcaps are taken away. There are people multiplying all kinds of items (keys, media, common mods etc.) so would be nice to be able to keep doing so even if it now requires moving.
Ideas for KCap programs
I use Quantum Capsules to mainly duplicate common mods (as it is a long way to the Onyx Engineer badge).
If Kinetic Capsules can create common mods from resonators or something, that would be good. Currently it only creates VR mods, which for me is useless, so Kinetic's only generate L1 resonators or Hypercubes to be useful.

I have a feeling there will now be a renewed interest in farming again. It's been too many years of nobody needing to farm. This change should have happened years ago.
YES! Please take your time on that key bit... lots of time.. maybe like after the api and recursion rewards. Very much support this update!
Suggestion: recipes that generate "common" items should all require less walking to complete, perhaps 1-2km. (The offset to this is that you burn out your 3 Kinetic slots much faster). Similarly, "Rare" items generate in 2-4km, and VR in 4-8km.
Complaint: unilaterally removing key-duplication makes it at-least-temporarily impossible to farm hard-to-reach keys. I've got some souvenir keys in my Quantums waiting to duplicate, because others are hoping to get copies. (This includes things like Stonehenge, King's Cross 9 3/4 station, Ingress Street, NIA's 1331 van, and some other weirdo fun-but-useless things players seem to like.)
But if the only real expense in making a guaranteed copy is to burn a Kinetic slot? Something has to balance that out.
I am definitely going to miss the ability to keep some 5+ Quantums filled to capacity with L4-8 resonators, and some more with XMP, there aren't as many local players any more. So keeping a good supply on hand of their overflow was nice. I imagine Niantic would like to create a "rainbow" recipe that generates some number of 1+ resonators of each level?

It doesn't. Gotta just meet more people and go around more. Makes for even more fun.
Since this is going to be a controversial, the planner in me would suggest an event for some goodwill, like upping the number that can be ran at once, lowering the distance requirement, new recipes available immediately, or maybe even a permanent tiered badge 👀
Some folks are already drowning in Kinetics.

People commenting that "Finally it will be the end of unlimited keys" have no clue about the reality of the game.
People will just spoof to get keys, there will be 0 change. You are only decreasing your player base, since you haven't fixed cheating at all for the past 5 years.
Sometimes I wonder whether you actually ask anyone to provide feedback to such a ".." move. There is a reason why we have a dead community/game and such decisions without even asking feedback from the community is the reason.
You are making it harder to get gear for casual players. These players won't have time to farm so they will just quit. Enabling easy casual accessible gear is the way to promote active game. People don't want to farm 30 mins, when there are 3 players to spend the gear in the next 5 mins and be done with it.
Limiting gear only promotes black market and pushes casual players away.
