PvE Current score 1 - 0
What do I mean? Well I am keeping my link corridors free from red links but the environment is suffering badly from all the travel I am doing by car. Machina is bad for the environment.
Why is Machina so bad for the environment?
- It creates links from portals that are hard to reach via public transport, to get to these portals you need your own mode of powered transport.
- It creates links through existing links, previously the opposition had to plan the field take down and arrange the blocker. Now, the opposition just waits until Machina blocks and then takes the field down. This requires constant cleaning to maintain the field, see point 1.
- Just removing a Machina blocker is not enough, you have to remove all the portals, otherwise Machina seems to go wild and throw even more links.
I don’t mind competition from the other faction, but when a computer generated faction starts to dictate how I play, I start to get suspicious. Playing against people is OK, against computers is not.
If Machina didn’t throw Links through existing links I wouldn’t complain, but the current situation is just damaging to the environment. It seems that PvE is the correct term for the new faction. But hey, Ingress was never environmentally friendly 🤷♂️

it will only get worse when Machina starts throwing links between unreachable portals.
Nothing wrong with playing against computers, but in case of machina I can't even come up with clever strategies.
Has a point. Red cr4p is constantly growing over lanes. Other areas where portals are grey and haven't been touched in years remain grey. But lanes for fields? Red cr4p everywhere. We will just keep wasting our gas, helping to increase that carbon footprint, that Niantic wants to shrink.
Cool parks I haven't been to in years, that have been grey for years, that have tons of new portals in them? Grey. No red has touched them. Portals that just decayed? Red instantly. Time to check your coding.
And @saarstahl is right. Those portals in closed areas that are spamming red links to other closed areas is annoying. If it at least followed the basic rules of not crossing links it wouldn't be soo bad. Even if you allowed it to field under fields (lazy rule) But sheesh. It's getting old, and getting old fast.
*edit F your stupid word filter. It's worse than most school's word filters.
and then maybe niantic will understand than portals that only a few agents (usually employee) can use are BS and start removing them
It already does. Go look at every college campus or area you as civilian can't reach without negative treatment from security or other agents.
[sarcasm] Well, why don't you use teamwork to go clear those links far away??? [/sarcasm]
There is something wrong with playing against computers if that is not your choice. I started playing ingress for the exact reason it was people against people and not some mind numbing game against a computer. Other people’s tastes may be different.
You are correct, there appears to be no strategy against Machina apart from killing all the portals as they appear. Pollute the environment to beat a computer.
So, I've been seeing places that I clear of Machina portals re-populate with more Machina portals the next day. Anyone else seeing it increase the speed of the portals showing up?
It seems random at times. There's a bit I drive by in my way to work, it's a high turnover area due to bei g in the city and having g a fair few missions, it seems to grow faster than i destroy them in passing. At the same i time, I can see on intel 2 red portals woth one link between them that hasn't grown at all, one portal got to level 5 but the other has stayed as 1 and hasn't moved, nit even for lack of portals, there's loads around it
Cleared it on Friday. It's already red and derped up again on Monday.
Only way to to keep the red away is to keep the portals lit up... Which is likely not what @NianticBrian had in mind. But some actual information about this cr4p would be great...
as far i can call it strategy. There are pita portals that would block me from fielding. I just capture the surrounding portals (20ish) and i recharge them and i adapted my field plan a bit so it doesnt need to go straight in the middle of the pita area. The outer pita portals i can sh00t off if needed.
I've used plenty of inaccessible portals. Spoofers always find a way to take them out. Probably be the same way with these red portals. Spoofers will take care of them. Not saying it's right, just reality.
If you keep them controlled by a faction, it looks like you have a week before the portal decays.
At this point the only good other than easy purifer/engineer points, is that people will start identifying the older portals that are either in incorrect locations or no longer present and report them. Then again, like me, I reported two that were previously scanned, but they haven't been in that location for years. They are out in the woods and usually ignored. Except when Machina decides to use them.
I’ve had them regenerate within a hour of clearing and blocking my field plans! Don’t always have the time to go all the way back to clear again!! Total PITA!!
