3 months and only one real event. A real event that actually means I roll up with a couple homies, plop a few beacons down and then go about my way. Meh.
I really hope something more comes along. Virtual FS and six missions a month sure as heck ain’t the best way to entice new agents either.
It’s been nice earning the anomaly badges globally, but guess that’s it after this one.
Nice that there’s a little New Year event but this calendar is looking even more empty. No “Machina” events, or “2x2” events. No attempts at new events for the tenth year or the game?
Seems nothing will happen before the quest in march.... i was hoping machina will have bigger impact on the portal network starting next year ? guess not...
Just to compare, here’s how Pokémon GO & Harry Potter: Wizards Unite had their events in October (2021 for HPWU, and used October as Pokémon GO hasn’t announced their Q1 events as yet);
There’s actually things going on to encourage players to…play?
True, however those events in those games are mostly automated, and based on the quest system.
They also have/had at least double the number of artists working game art that Ingress has.
We really need Brian or Thia to be more onto it with events and more open with communication. Or if the Ingress team is taking a month long holiday, it would be nice to know this so that we aren't harping on.|
From what Brian said on stage in Yokohama, sounds like they are doing what they can. But come on, it doesn't take much effort to do a mini event challenge
I dont understand why so few events months ahead ? Covid 19 isnt like it was 2 years ago yet it seems niantic are holding back on the events for some reason.... dont understand their decisions really... even this year has been rather empty on events after summer....
They used to mark in the calendar even small mini-events but now they dont seem to be doing those as we didnt get any halloween event and from the looks probably no xmas/new year event either.. but we will get a new years badge so thats better then nothing but still no event
@NianticBrian@NianticThia Getting rid of the ability for players to actively participate in anomalies without spending a fortune to travel is just a bad idea and is a excellent way to make sure ingress's player base doesn't ever reach it's pre-pandemic levels of engagement.
Global battle beacon based anomaly participation is a good thing but needs to be done with moderation. Rather than have a global participation anomaly every month of the year, like we saw during the majority of 2022, it needs to continue using the format from Epiphany Dawn: As a week long phase leading into the final anomaly date. This way players who really want to earn an anomaly badge but is unable to participate on site can still participate.
Other country agents are saddened by your anomaly badge decision; while beacoins were easy to obtain, the anomaly badge is now difficult to obtain. @NianticBrian
getting a lot of disagrees on my first post, but seems the general consensus is the first quarter is looking very bare.
Here we are again though, “we want more people to play this game.” But I don’t think anomalies are what’s going to bring people to this game, especially once they go back to single locations on a massive planet.
I can’t figure out Niantics logic with this game anymore. Continued low effort, but continued talk about how “we” can do better and our communication sucks and please invite your friends to play this game. There won’t be any “real” events for them, there will be continued latency issues and if they’re lucky enough, they’ll get to encounter aggressive/creepy agents following them around with 6 backpack accounts and unlimited gear. But hey, have them rate us 5* once they’re signed up…
Is the play just hoping they can limp this game along for another five years off the backs of OG agents still talking about the good ole days from 2013 while they beta test features for other Niantic games? Sure seems like it and maybe that will work for another five years, but five years will be a stretch if their idea of events is quarterly anomalies coupled with the FS/SS combo….
They created Ingress "Prime" to have an updated platform that can be adapted to new technologies and mechanics, thereby bringing more interaction with users, but none of that has been the case.
Pure excessive bug and zero interactions with users.
In 3 months, aren't you going to be able to at least put on a double AP event, or double mod per agent, or something else that simple?
Niantic really doesn't give a damn about Ingress.
And the worst thing is that it is full of ignoramuses defending the company when years come with the excuse.
Niantic was a great game when there were players. We didn't need Niantic to create events to enjoy the game. Now that there's very few players left there's more of a push by the remaining to ask Niantic to create events. There was never a demand to create events by players when it was more popular. We just had fun playing the game. Now it's a different game. Niantic needs to promote Ingress. It's in desperate need of competition.
It does look weird with start of new year with no real event until in march first, is this how niantic plan to grow the game? i dont understand logic by having so empty calendar...
Why not do a event on machina, whats the purpose of the red portals if they dont do anything more ?
While I really appreciate anomaly badges going back to "in-person", badges should also be awarded to remote rechargers and remote intel directors (just like Osiris and Nemesis sequence). This would be a good middle ground between "global participation" and "you have to travel across the continent".
In order to make recharge badges viable, Niantic would need more than one site globally. Two or three sites per region per weekend would be ideal, that way many more agents could be in recharge range of a site.
It seems unlikely that remote intel directors would be able to get a badge since Niantic wants to automate anomalies as much as possible. I don't know what the Ingress backend looks like, but similar to GORUCK, POCs could gather names and emails of rechargers and intel directors and submit to Niantic in a spreadsheet to award badges.
It has. It has forced agents to pick up uniques a lot more aggressively. Agents don't want their status quo messed with. I know in my box attempts to use Machina as weapon against established fields hasn't had the desired results as the only Machina successes are in places where no one plays regularly.
I agree. For a company that continues to talk about getting more people to play this game, they’re doing a pretty poor job at it. Not looking for weekly events and medals. But monthly or bi-monthly would be nice. And I’m obviously not talking about FS or SS.
Would be nice to hear their reasons atleast why so few events listed for Q1, is it because they devote all time plan anomalies for Q2 or its something else? but as always its quiet in the general section not much from thia brian or anyone else that gives some input to calm people down and answer their questions.. 🤔

Good start and ahead of schedule. Thanks Niantic.
Just gonna say.
LOW EFFORT

@PkmnTrainerJ There may yet be something coming, not yet announced.
Mini events sometimes aren't announced during these roadmaps.
Only speculations at the moment

That’s what I had hoped for, with the Q4 events and we didn’t get anything extra.

Agreed but it’s interesting to see what’s possible when the games actually want players and to have fun events.
We also got this last year and have nothing announced like it as yet.

Please, don't rush yet. We don't even have the instructions for the anomaly.

2x2 was an event to test things...
I guess it didn’t produce any great results then as we haven’t had another.

I don't know if you read the comments on other threads, but it's still doing passive damage
I don't understand why yall are still surprised about this.
Player count is decreasing just about as quickly as niantic is removing staff from the ingress team.
GONE are the days when we had near-constant anomalies and other events.

A play test of how aggressive it can go. Niantic is gathering data.
Expecting Machina Medals on the 2023 new year
So Second Sunday comes to an end shortly. Can’t wait until the next event!
…Oh, it’s not until 4th February? Where’s the incentive to keep playing?
