I like the idea of a weekly decay. For instance my wife has dance class once a week with a few local portals at the dance class. I see where @Perringaiden is coming from.
If you are not a person who sits at home recharging, that extra day may enable some more links, chance to charge it, bump it whatever.
I'm pretty ambivalent on the idea personally, though slower decay would save me some cubage, (not such an issue with the advent of Kinetic caps).
Is it the only reason I can come up with that made sense to me? Yes
If you choose to interpret "The only reason I can come up with" as "This is the only reason to disagree, and it is a bad one and you shouldn't disagree", I can only tell you it's not what was intended.
One thing that was frustrating as a rural player before hitting level 16 for the first time and getting Battle Beacons while playing in a small local area with limited amount of portals and virtually no opposition or very rarely a visit from RES was exactly the portal decay rate. 7 days wait to get something to do again.
First I used to do a 360 fanfield around a single central anchor portal with 40-72 links. Then switched to 2x 24-link fan fields, but with lousy luck on virus drop rates even those stood up for the full 7 days without visits from RES.
Of course I restocked resos, mods and keys (and crafted SBULs for the rare virus drops) for the next round, but once that was done, it went back to the waiting game. I can only imagine a player in same situation reading this post that demands for an extra day to that wait, just for convenience and invetory spaces sake 😅
I like 7 day decay because it does allow the game to reset once a week, which means I can do more on the weekend when I have more time (especially in winter when we have 8 hours of daylight here).
14% decay would mean the reset drifts 1 day later per week so after 2 weekends I’d have to wait a week for the weekend to open up again.
The difference between 14 vs 15 percent is only relevant in areas that don’t get regularly attacked. By definition this is pretty much only an issue for areas dominated by a single player/faction.

That's not what you said:
The only reason I can come up with for being against thisDid I ask why people disagree? No
Did I imply that people shouldn't disagree? No
Did I give a reason to disagree? Yes
Is it the only reason I can come up with that made sense to me? Yes
