Levels 17-24
in General
With it being #IngressYear10, I thought it might be the year that we finally got levels above 16.
I remembered it being discussed a bit in previous AMAs (remember Ingress AMAs, Pepperidge Farm remembers).
Would you want levels beyond 16? Accessible only after a recurse, or instead of one?
It was mentioned in another chat, so thought I’d ask the question.

I think 16 is a sufficient point.
Recursing allows another option to continue and adding levels 17+ just doesn't feel right especially when there's agents who have either recursed or not recursed. Even if you made recursing a requirement it just seems a weird flow.
The July 2018 one (prestige option) has been fulfilled with Recursion. All discussions dating from before that are now void. July 2019 said "no plans to add new levels." I disagree with RedSoloCup that it is "inevitable", and he's not here any more, so.
Personally I'm done with grіnding AP to gain levels, and if I wanted that I'd recurse again. It'll be difficult to make it fair to those who recursed vs those who did not recurse. So it's a no from me.
More levels will never happen. That's why they added the recursion option. It's a nice feature too. With the game being so much easier getting to 16 is no longer difficult. So recursing and starting over adds a little bit of difficulty. It's the only reason I still play for now.
This dying game already has challenges recruiting and maintaining a sustainable and legitimate player base. Adding additional levels (like PogO) doesn't make sense with the current game mechanics and how toxic the gaming environment and players can be.
Could do the (bad) Paragon system of Diablo.
I would not be a fan of it.
Recursions is a facility ready to go to, levels above L16 based on Recursions
New levels are good, what we do to get them is a different matter.
What would we get out of it? We have asked for crafting higher tier resonators and Xmps. This isn't a popular option, though I like it.
After 10 years they could do this maybe ? just recursion makes no sense, go from 0-16 and repeat forever...
While I think it would be hard to make Recursion and extra levels work together, it can probably be done.
But in saying that, why? Would we get higher XM tanks and recharge range? There's no real point to 9-16. I would rather they implement a "talent tree" type system that uses Recursion points and post 16 AP.
IMO reset Recursion as a concept. Everyone goes back to 16, and is given 8 more even harder levels to achieve.
Recursion was only ever added as a shortcut to give people more things to "do" without the development team doing any significant work for it.
How about just add level 17, but with 4 different skills to choose from when you reach it and the ability to recursed to get the other skills
Q1: Does someone who has 1 billion AP and has never recursed, now have to recurse, drop their "Current AP" to a tiny amount, and then level 16 again, just to get access?
Q2: If I'm level 4 after my third recursion, do I have to get back to 16 before I can get to 17? Why am I so much further away than the person who recursed once, got to 16 and then just kept making AP enough to almost be level 17?
Also, for those using Redsolocup statements, has to remember that we've both changed Product Managers and Community Manager/Specialists, as well as a bunch of other things. Any statements on what "could" be done, or "might" be done are only relevant if made by people who are still part of the current Ingress team.
Otherwise I'm still waiting for my Brandon Badger promised Intel API.
Then people hit the new max level and we're back to the start. There's no end game content is the issue.
The concept that "Higher levels" changes this in any way is the problem. Because if what you say is true, the values are still too low. If you require less than 2 billion total AP to get to the final level, then you've already failed to change the situation, but you're going to reach that point anyway.
"Grind more AP" is never going to be a generally useful tool for people who don't already do that, and the people who already do that don't need new levels.
I'd love new levels. I'd play more again. Like when I was out **** for Mind Controller Onyx, or later when I was out **** for my Mind Controller Wings...
Or heck, even some kind of bonus for when you recurse (something extra at certain points). I stopped recusing at 6 times. But if there was something fun/useable for certain amounts of recursions, I'd likely recurse again. At the moment I see no reason to recurse again. I have all the Onyx badges I want. Finally just got my Epoch Onyx on Saturday. I celebrated by not playing on Sunday.
I'm not doing the scanning ones because, come on, you know that's not actual game play based badges. And who wants to try to not scan people who would frequently be in the way of you trying to scan something. That or trying to find the object you are trying to scan (in some parks, its a journey all own its own).
Im not saying I want this to happen, but looking to niantics other games, they added more levels in pogo. Level wasnt only xp-based but also had some criterias, things you had to accomplish. Some were much like our medals, (they might even added higher level of medals than gold).
if niantic follows the line, I think we will see criterias as interaction with battlebeacon and scanning.. And of course a silly amount of ap-**** to make up for all those apex we dont want to use.
Not sure about new levels but I want more badges to recognise active play. Take the Quarter concept ... Perhaps a Badge? you have to achieve x fields y links z hacks ... Some would speed through it done in a few days others would take the 3 months.
Tiers: Rural (blue/green fields), Suburbia (red), City Centre(black)
You mean sort of like “special research/tasks” like the other big Niantic game gets?
I am down for that.
I like this, I worry about clogging up the agent profile further with so many badges though.
Having the option to “hide” or “rearrange” badges would be great.
I get that the badges tell the story of an Agent’s journey. But if it’s my story, I want to tell it how I want.
I'm not a huge fan of hiding badges. Sorting them, or having them split in some way perhaps.
I don’t know if you play it, but Pikmin Bloom does this kind of thing already (I know it’s a different style of game).
Oh, I do and I know.
And while it's not quite the same, because that's displaying a single badge in all ranks laid out, the UI components exist to do this and it wouldn't be that hard.
I hope they do, or add specialistbadges/new skillbadges. Even if it has been a drop in new agents, I think ingress as a game might grow now. It is the perfect time, since people in the west at least meets a financial hard time. People will spend less money on restaurants, vacations and shopping, and look for other options. Since we are positive to healthy things maybe they will choose ar-gaming instead of expensive gyms or netflix. But my will they make a misstake, ingress isnt a cheap game to play, but lets not inform them 🤣
That would likely require a bounty board system to be set up.
Am open to such a thing.
We just don't know what the future holds
maybe the lore will take a plottwist, since its dawn and the night is over. Like twinpeaks. Everything up till now has only been part of a dream. And now the real adventure starts..
if there was ever a time for a new beginning its 10 years after dawn this year.
The schism AI story arc is definitely still possible.
In just over a month, we will find out exactly what is happening with the story.
Epiphany Night 10 years ago began the story for 8 years.
Stands to reason that Epiphany Dawn will ignight the next story
I wouldn't have high expectations, the story has soft rebooted before Prime where some ideas of the past are then implemented more into the story.
I think the gist has been Resistance versus Enlightened. The NIA researchers and what their alignment is whether it be the "classic" faction alliance or the "newer" Enlightened Combine versus N'Zeer. Jarvis and ADA are ultimates in which they aren't hindered by a lot of the plot (yes, XM-powered plot armor) and have knowledge of the universes beyond their own.
You then have the archetypes and how they play into the roles of the magnus. They do not have to all be present for it to function.
The three companies, Hulong, IQ Tech, and Visur, do research and technology with XM.
Looking into other nodes (or universes) requires RPE technology for the researchers. These usually require a Techluthu.
1218 = the universe from 2012 to 2018. (Most likely also a reference to Earth-1218 within DC Comics about multiverses, where even the alternative universe is Earth-Prime.) The current universe was dubbed Osiris by 1218 Hank.
Artifacts, XM technology, plot armor, ADA, Jarvis, rinse and repeat
I always has high hopes 😂 why not? Up until disapointment I will still be happy, and then I can set up new high hopes for something else 🙈
