Does it matter? We comment to hope that Niantic sees this…don’t now why You made a dumb comment like this to me but then you should comment to all the people who have asked Niantic something
Giving us the 5 minute cool down back is the best decission Niantic has made in years. Next they should remove the hypercubes completely from the game and give us back the strategic values of xm use.
Keep the cooldown at 90 seconds. Make it 120 seconds for hacking enemy portals, and if you need something to be 300 seconds, make it for unclaimed ones.
Understandable, but I haven’t seen feedback anywhere going “Yes, bring back the shortened Cooldown” in large capacities so I was curious as to where it had sprung from, and how the decision was made based on the player feedback.
I am not in all the Ingress spaces so wondered if there was something I was not seeing regarding people enjoying this change.
The following is just my personal opinion as an agent:
I'm fairly ok with this change being reverted. I understand why many of the changes happened during the pandemic (and rightly so), but many of them really pushed Ingress into being a more lonely, solitary game, and after a lot of reflection this is probably one of them.
Some people seem fixed on the idea that the only/best way to Ingress is to do so draining all the gear/keys out of a few portals and doing so rapidly, rather than moving between a lot of portals, doing so with friends, or by hosting farms with friends to get the fear required.
We can have a debate about whether the pandemic has receded enough or not, but I think part of the challenge of Ingress for the first seven odd years was getting people together, or finding enough different portals to visit to get what you need. Other than some rare cases, most of the time the game was more fun doing it with other people or by visiting a lot of places; the five minute tax on actions encouraged you to .. well, move. Somehow, Ingress managed to succeed and thrive starting with fewer agents and fewer portals, and I suspect it can do the same thing here, but it might involve altering the play styles of the last few years.
I know psychologically it's intensely difficult to be given something in a game and have it taken away. When we got all these pandemic bonuses, I knew this was happening, and I sort of put myself in the place where I imagined I was being given super powers for a period of time, but they were eventually going to wear off/I would get exposed to kryptonite/the tube of super ointment would run out, so maybe the pain is less for me. That, or I remember Ingress was like, and I seem to have a lot of fun for 70% of a decade that way, so it's what I'm going to keep trying to do.
All good points but I live 15 miles from my nearest agent. Ingress is mostly a solitary game for me and now I can only play it half as much. I'm looking for the good here and I just can't see it
Having the cooldown at ninety seconds gives the incentive to travel farther and further since more could be done quicker. Wasn't a part of Ingress about exploring new areas and Portals? Pushing the cooldown (even if friendly Portals are now 180 seconds) back up just defeats the purpose of Ingress, even if big triangles are the ultimate goal. I may be spoiled and used to it, but it just feels like a punishment. If not 90, then maybe 120 seconds? 180/300 just hurts.
Heatsinks don't and never did affect the amount of items you get per hack. This has been proven by collecting statistics from 100s of thousands of hacks by many players over many of years of Ingress. And heatsinks never reset portal burnout state. Only present cooldown state.
heatsink do reset a portals buntout state, thats why you can burnout a portal, add a heatsink and then burnout again, add another heatsink and burn the portal one more time. And when four hours has passed since the last heatsink were added, you can hack again. Not for hours after the first hack was taken, if doing the order written above. And yes, heatsink allows for boosted xmfarming, it will yeald more item per roll. But it wont give you more itemrolls. Thats whats been prooved. When meassuring a certain droprate, one often meassures in itemrolls, but people tend to mix these things up.
In my city there are a number of players notorious for having multi accounts. They create new accounts, play to level 8 so they can hack L8 gear, and those accounts are never seen again presumably as they drop the hacked gear to the main account. Certain players drive around for most of a day without stopping to hack fresh gear and are smashing and deploying continuously, seemingly having an inventory of 5,000 to 10,000 items.
I suspect longer cooldowns will only serve to increase the amount of multi handbag accounts to allow those handbags to still hack at the same rate as with 90s CD. This is something that Niantic have said they are concerned about but find difficult to effectively control and this can only get worse.
keep the cooldown at 90sec. It is better for the gameplay and for the motivation of the Agents! I think that not everyone will merge to NBA ;-)... and you can read in nearly most of the comments that the 90sec cooldown is a good thing! So, hear the community NIA.
Don't go ... It's not too bad at all ... a friend missed the announcement at the start of the pandemic and they only found out a few months ago that cool down was reduced 90sec from 5mins. They hadn't noticed Lol
As a field rethrow player (have 2000 more fields created than links thrown) gathering many keys will be a little more time consuming on single off the path portals in the spine.
And anchors will be little harder to farm currently I can get 50 plus keys from a 10 min fracker ... Will only be able to get 25 in the future ....
But considering how many times I have actually needed 50 keys for a portal to be used in a 24 hour period?
i started playing during covid. Never knew this was the original countdown. I gotta say this will slow down and possibly eliminate my desire to play this game. Who wants to stand around for a second hack?
Sorry to disappoint you, but since he pinged me in comm, I could spot the founders medal in the profil 🙈
But maybe we could all agree to that we use our heatsinks and are happy with the effects it gives us. Reseting burnout or cooldown, burnout works excellent for me, and mxx seems to be satisfied with reseting cooldown! 😆

Boo!

Yes this is something that can't be expressed properly.
We have so many tools to key farm now, that it is really, just too fast.
Keeping in mind that the 5min cooldown only applies to neutral and opposite faction Hacks.
Same faction Hacks is 3min, which is better.
Hope @NianticBrian listen on all agent and give us same as before or better balace. 120sec cooldown on all portals. Very bad balance now and not fun.
120sec on all portals are the best i think.

Why not revert back the CD for non Core subscribers? A win win for both side 😆

What? What are you talking about? Somebody please translate this for me.
Should set same interval time for both factions!

I'd be happy to trade the AP bonus for captures that nobody asked for and was just made permanent to keep 90s cooldown.
Brosef, I can safely say from my vantage point that we've already experienced peak niantic involvement in the community.
Application of any heatsink mod immediately resets the portal burnout state, but only for the agent applying the heatsink.
Cooldown, not burnout.🤦♂️

I think longer cooling time is ok for opposite side. But please keep 90s for friendly side hack.

thx
Tell me you're new to ingress without telling me you're new to ingress.
From the WIKI:
I do this all the time currently, when I need some more keys. Hack the portal, add common heatsink, hack some more.
the ongoing lag doesnt always make the 90sec in your favor...
We have to wait for the latency anyway, might as wel up the cooldown.
Sounds like Niantic logic.
Or, are they upping the cooldown so we hack less and might experience less latency?
Or, as they up the cooldown, less players actively play, so their low budget VPS can handle the load.

I hear you ... Been a long term cargresser. .... Yet I think we might be ok this is not too bad
3 minutes is a good middle ground.

Yeah, but apparently being a founder doesn’t mean you understand the game mechanics ;)
