Time To Retire Quantum Capsules

I've come around to the idea that keys either shouldn't duplicate, or duplications should be quite rare, like maybe a 0.1% or 0.01% chance rather than the roughly 1% chance that we have now. Or perhaps the duplication rate for a specific key should be tied to some metric based on the frequency of and number of people who access a particular portal.

I think the larger issue is that Niantic should have a better mechanism for handling portals that become inaccessible either permanently or semi-permanently. I'm not quite sure what that mechanism would be, though, and everything I've thought of is vulnerable to spoofers. This is probably a topic for a separate discussion.

    Niantic Logic:

    • Don't spoof! ~ Doesn't make 'GPS lock impossible'.
    • No Trespassing! ~ Doesn't remove portals from Military bases, remote islands with nature protection, etc.
    • We have CORE Subscription! We'll do better! ~ Doesn't.
    • No pay to win! ~ Proceeds to shift to pay to win.

want keys? go hack that portal... they should feel valuable u actually need go to the location if u want more.. is portal too hard reach ? then skip it

When the going gets tough, the tough get going as they say. It does distinguish tough and seasoned agents from mediocre ones.

just today for the peace link challenge, i was able to use VR HS and MH, plus fracker, to wrassle 65 keys out of a portal in less than 20 minutes. who's worried about "a dozen keys"? It's far more efficient to do it this way than wait for QC duplication.

  • GorillaSapiensGorillaSapiens ✭✭✭✭✭

    then you get hacked clients.

better to do it per agent, but only update when the agent logs in or checks capsules. no constant background updating.

Farming, especially with frackers, is WAY more efficient than waiting for QC dup.

Even drone hacking an L8 farm hourly is more efficient than QC dup.

So i finally got 2 of them during doing the 200 Links, just to find out it has the same recipes then the normal one. So i cannot build xmp8 burster with it, no ultra strikes? I need to use one virus to build another virus? As long as these recipes are that useless i prefer the quantum capsules. Only useful recipe is the biq energy cube :-/

Dont get me wrong, i hack most of the stuff, quantum caps are just a tiny bonus. But most of the time i do not use kinetic capsule because the stuff in it is useless in my opinion.

The easy answer to remote and inaccessible portals is accelerating decay. First week after deployment it decays the standard 15%/day, second week 25% per day, etc. Eventually the decay rate hits 100% and the portal immediately dies. If a player interacts with the portal on location (upgrade/deploy a mod/throw an outbound link), the decay rate drops back to the starting point.

Folks wanting key duplication to go away are just as lazy as they are blaming the key duplicators of being. Too lazy to go destroy the portal. All the keys on the planet are of no use if the portal is neutral or the other faction.

@Fanatic8099 I get where you're coming from but that impacts both legit and no-longer-legit portals equally. If the portal is guaranteed to die then why would someone hike a difficult mountain to capture that portal?

@Fanatic8099 , not all agents are lazy to take down portals. How can some agents take down a portal when they are being harassed and stalked by agents from the opposite faction in the first place? For example, an agent was chased down by a rival agent who drove at least 60 mph after taking down one of the portals controlled by the rival agent. You know how toxic gameplay can be in other areas.

The harassing does stop people from playing in my area too. Being chased, blocked into parking spots so you can't leave, trying to get people to fist fight, nobody wants to play against that. And when the team encourages that type of gameplay then it's no longer a fun game. I've been telling people to call the police, there's no reason to try to work with the other team to get them to stop. Eventually somebody is going to get hurt over an app on a cell phone and sadly that's what the game has come to. Hard portals don't matter when it's become that toxic.

@VenomousToad , what can a new agent do if a cop is also an agent of the rival faction? Harassment in this game and even in Pokemon Go comes in different forms, like a toxic rival player attacking a specific portal at 4:44 pm because the disrespectful conduct in the COMMs by their teammate (perhaps a friend) was brought to light. Harassment can be subtle such as having agents of the same faction capture a certain portal just to scare another agent into silence. It does show similarities in an abuse cycle wherein abusers want to silence victims. Harassment and stalking does make this game a dangerous one, especially to newbies. Just imagine, newbies made their first big field only to be stalked and harrassed by an entourage of rival agents driving huge SUVs pass by the newbie's car. Quite a scary experience for those newbies.

But what happens when you log in and the assets don't load in your client? Because that issue still occurs frequently.

I'm in mixed feeling mode over key dupe.

Leaning towards 'bad thing' however a little alarmed at direction this is going.

First Niantic allowed linking under fields as a workaround for perma bafs. (Because enemy agents too lazy to go k ill).

Now there's a push for key duplication to be removed, presumably for the same reason.

Large ops are a major part of the game. They already are hard and incur significant expense and it appears to be an unending push by some to make them even harder.

How about instead go out and **** them instead?

My cell has hard control lines enabling us to BAF at drop of a hat. The other faction has occasionally killed some points and we have gone and put them back. Legitimately.

But the main reason they are up is poor coordination and morale on the other team.

Instead of continually dumbing the game down, get out and MOVE.

@SSSputnik , duplicating keys is not encouraging agents to go out. What's next enable agents to get keys through drone hacking? Our group has experienced standing underneath the scorching sun, insect bites, etc just to hack keys for our field projects in conjunction with the best hacking mods in each portal. Why did we do it? Because it is more satisfying to do it ourselves and prove to others, it can be done as long as one has the guts to do it. It's the same thing as taking down an important portal especially if it is an unexpected move. No guts, no glory.

I've chartered flights to get to remote portals.

I mean get out as in travel to **** or travel to throw.

Well, how can Niantic guarantee the safety of its players when you have bad and creepy agents out there? Let's see, we parked our car in this urban spot, and then a crazy female agent from the rival faction tried to open the door of the front passenger door violently. There was also another instance when another rival male agent took photos of our group member when we were scanning portals for Niantic. We decided to abandon scanning portals for that reason. You know, it won't surprise me if a rival agent will do another threat against our group because it's what they do best. Silence new agents from telling what they really experience out there. I wonder how the dynamics will change once physical recharging will be introduced. If so, we would require the help of our guardians just like the ones in the Fair Park, Human Rights Museum, Mustangs' and Mean Greens' lairs. We have always felt safe in those places :)

@Otrera35 What you have on your hands is an issue for your local law enforcement.

Presenting examples to answer the statement and examples made by another agent about doing away with remote charging above is not complaining. As for reporting to authorities, the ball already started rolling dearies. :)
