I mean eh, it makes sense to post in on ones own website, you have more control over it and can implement features that aren't possible on this forum. A lot of other games do that. Just too bad that it means no more posts here.
wait what is that
is that... BY GODS ITS A POST ON THE GAMES FORUM, LINKED TO FROM THE MAIN POST
AND YOU CAN EVEN COMMENT ON IT
QUICK CHILDREN, AVOID YOUR EYES, THERE IS WITCH CRAFT AFOOT
cough go play elite great game and there is still time to escape the angry space flowers cough
I think the discussion is that they started putting news there in May, and didn't tell their community, where the news had been for years, until September.
Altho, at least they spoke to us!
Every time you have to scroll past the Kythera and Lunar New Year announcements still pinned here, you are reminded that we are... not a priority. Maybe this post means we're back on their radar?
That's all good and well, but… it used to be the case that I could visit these forums on a regular basis to find the latest official news and all manner of discussion. Ingress.com/News provides only the official news, so whatever "functionality" it might afford the Ingress team, it doesn't win a spot in my list of websites to check with any sort of regularity.
The part I think Vanilla Forums lacks (as far as I can tell) is a properly supported "Post at Time/Date" mechanism. Otherwise all these things could easily be linked together.
So essentially Niantic is moving away from two-way communication and into Broadcast-only mode? That's disappointing, especially since it's proven to be a poor strategy in that other game, and it's caused massive damage to the brand's credibility.
That's really disappointing especially when the player base contribute so much back to the game in terms of community and event support.
Without community 'champions' the player base would be further decimated.
Local and international communities around the world are the glue for the player base.
I guess that Niantic can "broadcast" events, then engage with only key reps for those events and ignore everything else.
Personally, without some support back from the company, the vast majority of contributors to the community will eventually burnout/quit and retire. This can be devastating to regional communities.
For instance, locally we have champions who:
Promote Niantic events in the community
Organise attendance, teams, social after parties.
Act as bridges between different player groups.
Organise regular social meetups.
Produce/donate/spend own money to supply prizes to participants, sometimes for both factions.
Act as community moderators/behaviour management/encourage playing by ToS.
Escalate reports to TR for spoofing or advise TR of large ops for 'overwatch' type agency to assist smooth gameplay.
Train/advise players.
Maintain inventory of low signal gear, loaning it out/managing/purchasing etc.
Maintain local cash kitties and try and raise funds.
Act as portal key stores/advisors on who has what keys, who to speak to etc.
Welcome international tourists/interstate visitors etc.
There's more, but I think that's a pretty encompassing list of stuff some of us do for the game, for free, and yet we get zero back from Niantic in terms of assistance/feedback on here...
On my slightly antiquated browser "Ingress.com/News" offers less functionality than the Community Forum, in that the forum works and the news site doesn't.

I don’t know what there is to discuss apart from it being annoying there’s not a place to then discuss the news officially. 😆
I understand them wanting to use their own site instead of a third party forum but maybe just make it duplicate here?
Post it on their news blog.
And post a link to it on social media/this forum.
It's not hard, nearly every other major company does it

Then why make topic?

Not seeing an RSS/ATOM feed, so that's a sad. 🤷♂️
Dark XM clearly at work here for this level of witchcraft.
Blizzard and World of Warcraft do it even better.
You mean you can link stuff on the world wide web? *Shocked*

Announcing today, for an update that occurred 4 months ago is very on brand.
allows more functionality than the Community Forum.
( X ) Doubt.
There’s a plug-in that they could use.
As you note, not official but I guess it would work. This one was also interesting.
As it can post to Slack, I would wager there’s another one out there that would be able to post to Telegram instead when a new post appears in News.
We shouldn't be having to do their job for them.
The solutions easy to implement but the Niantic Ingress team just don't appear to be trying. Like. No social media posts promoting the game.
I've probably done more hashtagged #ingress posts on Instagram than Niantic have...

seems so, also our community manager/specialist is awful quiet here too.. its been a year is the communication better?🤔
It certainly looks that way.

It's a lowercase n
Also, if it's an old browser...aren't you answering your own question?
I copied the Ingress.com/News to my browser and it states: Error Not Found. The Requested URL was not found on this Server. What's up with that?
