[Discussion] Ingress 2.98.1 Release Notes
in General
What's New
- Added Invert to the Layers button. Tap to enable a layer and see Portals you've visited, captured, or Scout Controlled; tap again to invert it and see the Portals you haven't yet visited, captured, or Scout Controlled; tap once more to turn the layer off.
- Added Nearby Portal Indicators to Niantic Labs Innovations. Enabled by default, Agents can optionally disable Nearby Portal Indicators from displaying on the Map screen via the bottom of the Settings menu.

Imagine doing uniques with the wrong flip
Is native refresh rate fixed in 2.98?
Yes. From the screenshots, it's not clear what mode the display is in.
I guess you'd figure it out after your first interaction with a portal with a ring.
Would be awesome if they fixed the drone layer...
This is a nice addition.
I'd expect that the native refresh rate state not being saved upon app restart would be fixed, it is a fairly easy bug to fix
Orange text: normal layer
Purple text: inverted layer
I wished they made that more clear.
Colors have no intrinsic meaning here. That's the problem.
I'd suggest Niantic use actual words, such as "Captured" vs. "Not Captured."
I agree.
Also the fact that the layer picker closes as soon as you tap on one without acknowledging what changed is bad UX
Please remember we are the beta testers here. Your feedback is appreciated and while it likely will be ignored, it’s supposedly read..
Now all we need is to be able to activate several layers at once...
And the obnoxious pay2win IAP in burster and resonator carousel is still there! 🤬
Wtf is wrong with Niantic?! Why don't they listen to the feedback?!
For better or worse, Niantic doesn't need an app update to remove it, it is a server side switch. The packs appeared about an hour before the anomaly in Munich without an app update because Niantic simply flipped a switch from "off" to "on".
Then it's even further proof that they are not listening to the players' feedback.
Cool, now add "drone visited" ornaments to the drone layer.

We needed further proof?!
But seriously, inverting the layers is a huge win. I've never understood why they originally implemented it as "Show me the things I'm not interested in."
As for showing multiple layers, is this a legit use case for multiple devices? If I have one device that's doing nothing but showing me the visited layer while the other device is playing and showing me the captured layer then I can see both bits of information at once and still only one device is interacting with the playfield.
When inverted, the text is purple for the name.
However, I'd like to see the entire border switched to purple, not remain yellow, when inverted.
Update finally showed up in the store for me. Got to say I like the changes. The inversion is handy, and getting those nearby portal boxes off my scanner is great. They always seemed to be in the way.
Inversion is nice, but I read it wrong and thought we could have multiple layers selected. Ahh what a pipe dream... being able to see both Drones and captured portals at the same time.
I kind of like that you have to choose. Otherwise why not just show you all drones all the time
If I'm hunting uniques, I cap everything. I can't see people's drones. Easy to send home people's drones. If I could see them I'd avoid my own faction's drones. Eh well. Send em home!
@EvilSuperHeros Who leaves a drone on a grey portal?!
Lots of agents, including myself. =)
I try not to leave my drone on a gray portal for long, but it visits a lot of them - the reason I am approaching 10k unique drone visits and only have around 2.5k maverick points - who would drone hack a gray portal? (and yes, I know full well there are plenty of people who will for plenty of very valid reasons).
The ability to send your own factions drone home seems like a mistake by Niantic honestly. Was so disappointing leaving my drone in hawaii, only to have it returned to me before my plane landed in Seattle...
But it was always the case - even before people could know they were doing it.
I think my drone has probably been sent home more often by my own faction than the opposite, so perhaps it was a mistake. LOL
Minimum 50 AP for glyph hacking a grey portal (extra for speed) vs 0 AP for just moving the drone is why I hack the grey portals on my drone's journeys.
Not so easy to do when portals are greater than 800m apart.
Unfortunately the dev team haven't got around to enabling moving drones via links.
That's where you deploy them in areas with clusters...
