    Just a reminder that the second one of this starts today;

    • Friday 19 August 1600 UTC to Monday 22 August 1600 UTC (72 hours) - Restocking Weekend2x Hack output of Resonators and XMP Bursters
    • Saturday 20 August 1400 local time to 1600 local time (2 hours) - Ingress2x2

  • There's always going to be some place in the world where the weather isn't convenient for somebody. Next week in some other country there could be a hurricane or flood. If local conditions in your region aren't right for playing, at least this is an event that can be easily skipped without really missing out on much except for some increased hack output.

what would be cool if u would be able to start the 2hour bonus yourself somehow? that would give more flexibility when u have time to play during the day.

  • milofargmilofarg ✭✭✭

Agreed. A 2hour 4x APEX that's only available in the store for a limited time sounds technically possible.

I’ve been preaching these sorts of “tickets” most of Covid. Buy/get ticket to be used within X time frame, if life gets too busy, it’s removed from your inventory when time frame is over.

One of the last weekends of summer for me, I was up in the mountains all day, so I didn’t partake in any boosted AP unfortunately.

It's interesting Niantic made this event happen for 2 months and is non-committal to the event ever happening again. Makes me wonder if this event was a test for something else down the road. Maybe they are trying out new mechanisms to have in-person IFS again? Two hour windows of double AP and "restocking" portal weekend smells like IFS...

  • EvilSuperHerosEvilSuperHeros ✭✭✭✭✭

Ingress 2x AP event notification was an hour late. I'm guessing daylight savings time wasn't used. Event was 2 pm to 4 pm local time, right?

  • PkmnTrainerJPkmnTrainerJ ✭✭✭✭✭

It’s certainly them testing “new” types of events and seeing how many people play them. I wonder if they will add a badge for Q4’s ones.

  • ZeroHecksGivenZeroHecksGiven ✭✭✭✭✭

I mean, they have years of metrics, so they have to realize what drives engagement and activity in general.

Obviously every event isn't going to appeal to every agent, but I have to think the weeks in a row with no events or news sees dips in activity.

Really wish we would see more medaled events with Ingress or some sort of task based system that so many folks have been begging for. I'm growing pretty bored of the current status quo and could sure use something to keep me engaged. Triangles only do so much for me, especially with gas prices are back to obscene levels...

  • PkmnTrainerJPkmnTrainerJ ✭✭✭✭✭

I figure if they’re going to do anything like that, they’ll hold it back for Year 10’s event in November.

Would be nice to get the task system. There should be a reason to open the app every day beyond hack a portal for my Sojourner.

    My Niantic AR games daily play can go;

    • Open Ingress, hack portal, send the drone out and hack
    • Open Pokémon GO, spin a stop, catch a Pokémon, do a few battles, send a few gifts , claim the daily box, claim the 1 coin box if it’s Monday, do my task for the day
    • Open Pikmin Bloom, do the 3 mushrooms
    • Open Witcher Monster Slayer, bop a monster, sell some herbs and look in the shop.
    • Open Jurassic World Alive, dart some dinos and do some daily tasks

    All of this can be without leaving the house. If on a walk;

    • Set Pikmin planting flowers, close off app
    • Open Pokémon GO, do daily incense
    • Open Ingress after 15 minutes, do some hacks & links, as well as blowing up any blue
    • Flit between Ingress/Witcher/JW Alive to do some things, and switch to Pokémon GO if near a gym to add in/battle.
    • Remember to stop flower planting on Pikmin before I’m back home.
    • Between all of this, keeping an eye out for any new POI to add

As you can see, Ingress doesn’t require a lot of action every day, as there’s not a whole bunch to do beyond the hack/link in the general day to day. There’s unfortunately not as much draw to play it for a long time each day.

  • ZeroHecksGivenZeroHecksGiven ✭✭✭✭✭

That can vary greatly, especially since some people basically play this game for missions only or are only interested in wings on medals or MU control. But that doesn't mean some sort of tasks aren't important, ESPECIALLY for newer agents who are either still learning the game or have no interest in playing the game like someone who has played for 7+ years. Brian talks about bringing people to this game and having them keep playing, but I think the only thing he's really done to help with that is allow for linking under fields, which isn't really obvious or explained as I see people asking why one link works and another doesn't. I understand OG folks have this idea the game HAS to stay the same, forever, but that's just not how things work if you want the game to stay alive. This game, like any other mobile game, will need to evolve to stay somewhat relevant. We can bring tasks to Ingress without forcing agents to do them, just like drones or apex boosts. We can do different things with events, we can sell tickets for events, we can do most of the things people have suggested as ways to give money to Niantic over the past several years. But, it all comes down to the brains at Niantic and to see if they're willing to try things that benefit the community as much as it benefits them. Mostly, it seems, Niantic is making changes to this game the benefit them. Things like cheaper servers, scanning, wayfarer, campfire, etc...

  • PkmnTrainerJPkmnTrainerJ ✭✭✭✭✭

I agree that it has to evolve, and don’t see why people think it has to stay the same.

Maybe we will get tasks on the experimental options soon?

  • PkmnTrainerJPkmnTrainerJ ✭✭✭✭✭

I agree it’s different if I’m off out to destroy a big blue field, then I’ll be playing Ingress more but I’m not necessarily going to be doing that daily.

On a certain day I may not be leaving my local area due to work/other commitments and only have limited time to play. If I’ve got everything local all greened and fielded, there’s not much to do until I get a drive by from the blues, besides a hack and drone stuff.

In the other games (besides Pikmin as you note) there’s extra things to do if you’re not going far that day.

  • PkmnTrainerJPkmnTrainerJ ✭✭✭✭✭

Now that we have had these two and won’t be getting one this month, how do people feel it’s been?

There is currently no plan to implement a Restocking Weekend nor Ingress2x2 in September 2022, and no plan to attach any medal to these two event types. Nevertheless, we will monitor Agent sentiment and activities to adjust the cadence and bonus offered at these two event types. After August, we may also experiment scheduling Restocking Weekends to different weekends in a month, and Ingress2x2 to different days of week

Do you want a badge for these? Do you want 2x2 to be on a different day? (Surely 2/2 should be one for next year, and maybe even 4/4?). Would you like to see other bonuses alongside it? Did you restock?

I had a lot of fun grindin.g AP during the 2x2 period, so I'd love if that would continue to be a thing. Restocking Weekend didn't really affect me, during the first one, I was already full for Munich, and during the second one, I didn't go out of my way to top up my inventory. It would be a fun addition to have a diffrent bonus each month during the 2x2 period (2x L8 Reso, 4x mods, higher AP for actions in addition to 2x AP etc.), but really only for these two hours, not for the entire weekend.

As for a badge, as an avid badge collector myself: Not everything needs a badge. If the Restock Weekends and 2x2 continue, they shouldn't have a badge associated with them imo

Is it planned that we will get any more of these in 2023 at all? @NianticBrian / @NianticThia

  • KarM3LKarM3L ✭✭✭✭

Maybe... there is a lot of 2023 to go,

And given a quarterly release schedule, noone knows when....

I’d hoped they might squeeze some into the empty schedule of Q1, but maybe Q2’s events will be astounding instead.

Also, coming back to an earlier comment of mine, we don’t have a 2x2 event on 2/2 (2nd February)? That seems an easy one to do?

  • MoogModularMoogModular ✭✭✭✭✭

They were done as segueways for anomaly weekends. I didn't see a lot of importance for 2x2.

  • mortuusmortuus ✭✭✭✭✭

yes but as things looks now Q1 will be rather empty and not much happening.. wonder why

  • PkmnTrainerJPkmnTrainerJ ✭✭✭✭✭

I’d hope all working towards common goals of player engagement and community though.

Over the summer took advantage of a 2*2 to go build a portal dense neighborhood a good distance from me. Nobody around no combat. Was wonderful.

  • Otrera35Otrera35 ✭✭✭✭

That is wishful thinking, though. It's never going to happen.

  • PkmnTrainerJPkmnTrainerJ ✭✭✭✭✭

I’ll remain optimistic until the game closure…

  • Otrera35Otrera35 ✭✭✭✭

We were once like that, optimistic, helpful, and trusting. This game taught us early to be wary and never trust anyone because there are a lot of psychos out there.

A psycho is always a psychopath. No need to make it sound pleasant for psychopaths and/or sociopaths.
