We are excited to announce two new event types, Ingress2x2 and Restocking Weekend, both with the intention to help Agents prepare for upcoming challenges and battles, and help new recruits level up with others.
With an Ingress2x2, Agents get a 2x AP bonus during the 2-hour period specified in their local timezone. By using Apex during Ingress2x2, an Agent can get effectively 4x AP during the event window. Whether you are new to the Ingress world or a veteran Agent just recursed, Ingress2x2 helps you get ready for any challenge or battle ahead.
During a Restocking Weekend, a Hack output bonus will be in effect for 72 hours that cover both Saturday and Sunday regardless of timezone. The Hack output bonus may apply to a different selection of item types for a given Restocking Weekend event, and will be announced in advance. Restocking Weekends will not only help Agents in preparing their inventory for various occasions, but is also an opportune time to build or upgrade Portal Farms with your Faction.
Mark your calendars for a first taste of these events:
Friday 15 July 1600 UTC to Monday 18 July 1600 UTC (72 hours) - First Restocking Weekend2x Hack output of Portal Mods and Ultra Strikes
Sunday 17 July 1400 local time to 1600 local time(2 hours) - First Ingress2x2
Friday 19 August 1600 UTC to Monday 22 August 1600 UTC (72 hours) - Restocking Weekend2x Hack output of Resonators and XMP Bursters
Saturday 20 August 1400 local time to 1600 local time (2 hours) - Ingress2x2
Also available during the Ingress2x2 period in the Ingress Store:
Ingress2x2 Bundle VR (10,000 CMU; for Agents with more than 40 million All Time AP)2 Apex; 2 Very Rare Battle Beacon
Ingress2x2 Bundle R (7,500 CMU)2 Apex; 2 Rare Battle Beacon
There is currently no plan to implement a Restocking Weekend nor Ingress2x2 in September 2022, and no plan to attach any medal to these two event types. Nevertheless, we will monitor Agent sentiment and activities to adjust the cadence and bonus offered at these two event types. After August, we may also experiment scheduling Restocking Weekends to different weekends in a month, and Ingress2x2 to different days of week. We look forward to receiving your feedback and suggestions through the Ingress Community Forum.
As always, please remember to be aware of your surroundings. We encourage players to follow local health and safety guidelines when playing Ingress (such as wearing masks and maintaining at least six feet/two meters of distance from other people). For the latest on in-game events and feature updates, be sure to check COMM > NEWS.
A better opportunity would be changing up the Second Sunday to be more than missions as was stated initially. That's where these events will help shine Second Sunday.
Seriously, as someone who plays all niantic games, I love that fact that Niantic decided to change our event start times to coincide with the ending of community day (since it returned to the original 3 hour format). I absolutely loathed having to lose out on community day during the past when it was held during an anomaly and felt it was cruel when Niantic made us choose which game we wanted to support during the middle of an intense cluster battle when there's a group of Pokemon go players yelling "Shinny!" While raiding a pokemon gym meters from where we were battling.
However, yeah, I think this should become part of second Sunday (hell there's already a 2 in the branding).
I thought the idea behind there being a Niantic Community Day is that there’s some “bleed” into the other games.
You see a crowd of people that are out for Pokémon GO Community Day, but you’re there for Ingress, and someone else is there for Pikmin Bloom, and everyone can see what’s happening in other games and consider joining in that one as well?
Would be nice if there were a few of the 2 hour double AP time slots, to give more agents access to them. Make them Second Sundays, and remove the mission part, and give a base goal that goes along with the 2x AP. Some basics, capture xx portals and/or create xx links and/or create xx fields, and/or walk x km, and/or gain xx successful glyph hack points. Teach folks the basics, but make it fun. Err, isn't that was IFS was originally for? But we warped it into an AP hoefest instead...
Stuff that takes Dev time. Granted I would think they could just port some of the code over from pogo. Its essentially the same type of thing that time research or whatever it is would do.
I'm still waiting for Second Sunday to be something besides MD with a new badge that doesn't count for MD credit. At least I have my Second Sunday down to about 5 minutes for the credit so I can go do other things with my day instead trying to find new missions to do.
we will monitor Agent sentiment and activities to adjust the cadence and bonus offered at these two event types
Please, when you monitor the activity, bear in mind the time chosen for 2x2 and the current heatwave in Europe. The same goes for other events, I've seen (here) that Seville was chosen for the second phase of Superposition, I'm pretty sure going there to play outdoors in direct sunlight at 14:30 in August goes against every single health recommendation.
I completely agree with your comment. In my area, the temperature is about 104-105 F and Niantic seems to want its PoGo and Ingress Players to get heatstroke when participating in its "Community Day." What good is a Community Day when you place its players' health at risk? It's just a game and not worth the risk just to get those numbers.
Shopping malls are packed with crowds and COVID 19 infection is not over since the latest surge is driven by the BA.5 subvariant which is highly transmissible. Yes, one can do cargressing, but with the current fuel prices and its impact on carbon footprint; it does not encourage players to go out and play. Besides, a lot of players don't want to overutilize their vehicles because of a game.
Such a perfect time to introduce a choose your own adventure ticket event. This weekend would have been the time to beta test it too. You purchase a ticket that grants you 72 hours to use this ticket. This ticket might be access to 2xap for two hours, this might be a medaled event that allows you to earn that medal by completing a task or set of tasks.
Obviously big worldwide events can be won or lost depending on the opposite faction allowing you to play the event, so it wouldn’t work for everything, but it’s clear this mini event could work as I just advertised. And this one would be a free “ticket.” Get the 0cmu ticket leading up the event and then when you’re ready, much like an apex boost, you can punch your ticket and a timer starts. If you wanna stack an apex boost, do it. Once the event window ends, the ticket is removed from your inventory if you haven’t used it. Maybe some tickets never expire..
In a world very much struggling with Covid (my wife had it a month ago) and also dealing with the potential effects of climate change, something like this would appease more folks than not.
Maybe a crazy idea, but maybe something long overdue for an ever changing landscape of what’s safe and/or realistic in this crazy world we call home…
It would be nice if agents could choose the time that they get the 2 hours of 2x AP. I usually play early in the morning to escape the heat (it's warm in the US currently as it is in Europe). I did go out and play during that 2x AP for a short bit. But I drove and played. Mainly due to it raining all day last Sunday.
I know its likely just a cron job or such that runs that kicks off the 2x AP locally. But if I could choose when it ran (like maybe via a Special Event 2x AP Apex that only works during the local 24 hours of that day (the 2x2 event day). It would make it better in my opinion. But I'm guessing that's extra Dev work that should be spent working on some of the bugs that are still hanging around.
Maybe we should just go back to having in person IFS events, and running 2x AP during those 2 hours? I'd personally rather get out and walk around, chat with people I don't see that often, get some exercise rather than yet again sitting on my bum in front of the PC (something I already do 40+ hours a week for work).
You know, you don't have to go and do every single event. When its hot outside, I usually don't even bother to go out and play Ingress. I stay inside, in the sweet cool AC. Maybe play a computer game or watch tv, or heck even read a book. Weather happens. It's been happening for millions of years. 2x2 event isn't tied to a medal. Its fairly easy to just skip it.
Granted it would be nice, like I mentioned above in another post, to be able to choose our time, to play earlier or later to try to avoid the worst of the heat (rain, cold, snow, ect). But it's not the end of the world if you can't play an event due the weather outside.
I agree with your comments above. Once my area reached the three-digit temperature; I stayed at home and enjoyed the nice AC, ate ice cream, and just chillax. Not really the end of the world if one can't play because of the awful weather out there which add more carbon footprints in this world and cause more wildfires in other areas of our planet due to global warming. Look what happened to Spain or Portugal recently. I hope none of those folks got heatstroke while playing PoGo or Ingress Prime...
Well, it's record-breaking breaking temperatures for this week in Europe too. A whopping 118 F (48 C) in Portugal then Niantic expects to do a Community Day Event. Can't their devs or event planners at least look at the weather forecast in different countries?

My thoughts are, in future sync these up with Community Days.
As that’s what it seems to be. A focus on a different in-game thing each time with extra AP & bonuses.
Secondly, if there’s no badge then at least give some special tasks along with these? Hacking a certain amount of Portals etc.
A better opportunity would be changing up the Second Sunday to be more than missions as was stated initially. That's where these events will help shine Second Sunday.
No, it should not be synced with community day.

A restock portal or PC for the orgas to share for each future MD location please.

Niantic is constantly advertising their brand more so than any individual game...

More grind, for the god of grind!!!)))
wish there was more to boost teamplay events and not individual double ap its way too easy today make ap.
Exactly. Finish missions or deploy portals or destroy and then after an appropriate number trigger a reward...

Maybe add a 15 minute Drone Cooldown to the Restocking weekend.
This was added in just before the event went live.
Wonder if August will have any extras.

https://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-forecasts/europe-heat-wave-could-be-worst-in-over-200-years/1216701
And people is dying because of that:
https://edition.cnn.com/videos/weather/2022/07/16/spain-heat-wave-deaths-goodman-lok-vpx.cnn
So maybe you could consider moving the events outside the hottest hours of the day.
The choosen time period for the "Ingress2x2"-event from 2 - 4 pm is completely silly:
it's too hot to walk outside,
the sun is high, so I can't read the mobile's display and
in Germany we still have 1000 Corona cases per 100.000 people.

We have shopping malls with air conditioning, and lots of portals.
Also, our car is air conditioned, so we can go cargressing. Big hubs are often in parking lots, for a church or other.

yeah times like this u dont want be inside a mall with tons of ppl i wouldnt recommend that. best to play after sunset when its a bit cooler

I did the first one of these and did put an APEX on but it was so hot outside that I did Drone hack, couch portal hack and recharging.
(Must point out that says burn not any other word)
I hope next time it’s a little cooler but it was nice to do when I was done with the Pokémon GO Community Day.

Their replies are purposely misleading, I would suggest to not engage with them.

Dude, that weather you are getting in Europe is normal for most of us in the US.

You don't have to go outside and play in the heat.
A very skippable event. That’s what I did. Some homies, adult beverages and AC? Yeah, easy choice…
