But, given the dishonesty of some of the opposing team's players, and Nia's complete indifference to the issue, the game stopped being fun in the last year.
Not only did we have to fight for cycles and build big fields, but we also had to fight spoofers.
We were implementing plans so that spoofer players couldn't get in our way. But when your important portal gets beaten by a spoofer, and the spoofer wins in such an unfair fight, it's very frustrating. Or when you start laying big fields, and then a lot of cross-links from the spoofer show up, that's also frustrating. Are our opponents so weak that they didn't want to play competitively and fairly? No, most of our opponents are decent players, but a couple of dishonest agents just destroyed the game in our region, setting up the entire opposing team. Niantic didn't want to deal with it, they chose to ignore it there.
I'm glad that our team in our cell has won most cycles in the last year and walked away with a win, while struggling with spoofers.
But I'm partly glad that in our country, Niantic chopped this game off, did it for me.
The Spoofers and Niantic completely killed the opportunity to play what I enjoy - maintaining my team's primacy in the "Score" tab.
And then Niantic turned off the game in our country completely.
I've wanted to do this for a long time - I wanted to stop playing Ingress. I wanted to delete the game from my phone and forget about it.
But this game was like a drug. If you play as a team, it's really hard to just quit. You're going to **** up the rest of the team, make it worse, just betray the people you've been friends with for a long time. So I couldn't stop and just walk away.
The last year was spent in the game purely because of emotions, more often negative emotions because of the spoofers. But also could not leave because of the desire to support other agents in their region in the fight for these cycles in our cells.
Now I'm free of that :)
There is no more game, no more lying players, no more quarrels and other things, there are only people who have become my friends throughout my Ingress journey :)
Insulting an opponent is the lot of a person with a weak spirit. Come on, I'm looking for a meaningful discussion, not a primal throwing of excrement at each other.
@GreenVam If you are looking for meaningful discussion then I would suggest that you reevaluate your strategy. The way you come across is that you are just complaining incessantly that you don't like Ingress anymore.
I do not want to use ingress substitutes, I need an ingress with a battle, with the development of the game world, with the plot, with a visible and feasible purpose, and other components of the game.
The problem here is that what you "want" from Ingress is in no way related to what others want. Every example you've provided of a "better" game, has been in a format that's both not what people are looking for, and a predatory monetization style that people actively avoid. There's a difference between improving Ingress by building features around it's core gameplay and style, and then there's demanding a completely different game that just happens to have a nostalgia bump for having the same name.
You don't want Ingress, you want a different game that you can feel continuity with your old game from.
I havent played for so long, and havent made more recursion than one, (its not been the right situation for recursion)
I think the game has been changing a lot since I first started, and I am one of them who didnt start with reducted.
The storyline, I havent fully grasped it yet, trying to read when I have the time.
The bonus of beeing recursed, there are some.. I think trustworthyness is one of them, (but thats only in my mind). A recursed account is seldom looked at with suspicioness, moust people would say that is is a real agent behind.
Then you have the ”free” vr battlebeacon you recieve from core load out. VR battlebeacons, is in someway a disturbance to the game, but it also gives mean agents like me, very special opportunites. I dont have to choose between busting the oppositions sofas and make a campfire out of it, and fracking the **** out of it.. Now I can do both without having to stick around for an hour 🤪
But there are plenty of other things to this game, than the things mentioned above.
My local team is a huge part of the game, connecting with them, making plans, having meetups. Travel together, helping each other..
Than you have things already mentioned above, personal goals. I have yet to get all medals in black, but while Im at it, I can still fulfill goals of my own. Doing an hcf-field, learning the numbers and gamemechanics. Like calculating how many bursters the enemy got from farming, so I can anticipate when he needs to farm next, how much recharge he can handle etc. The game has another dimension to it, since the action of a player not only determinated by the game it selfs, but to the nature of the player.
I have laborated with dynamic linkdefense, plus and minus poles of portals and many odd things. Learning new ways to get the upperhand in the game. Thats things that keep me playing, and probably will keep me playing for many years to come.!
Look. I'm 39 years old and I remember what it's like to play a game. Yes, I do remember what games are. In this situation, I see two problems.
1. The problem is that modern game dev is so depressed.
I remember the days when I had a computer with a 1.1 gigahertz processor and 1 gigabyte of RAM. On this computer, I ran a game that fit on 1 CD. This game was called creatures 3. This game was a small world inhabited by creatures. Each creature had its own appearance, features and habits, its own lifespan, and so on. Later, I learned that each creature has its own digital DNA, body biochemistry, habits, skills, and so on. Then I found out that there is a DNA editor for these creatures, this is a complex program that allows you to edit the genome of any inhabitant of this world. This game had indirect controls, and I was still able to teach my creatures skills and commands, breed creatures. And then I began to make complex mechanisms for their existence. And I learned that there is even a programming language in which you can create almost any object for this world. My creatures have learned to fend off enemies with turrets. They posted sentries, protected offspring from enemies and did much more. In this game, competitions were even arranged in order to find out which of the players the population would live the longest. I know how cool everything is done, and yes, it worked on a computer with a 1.1 gigahertz processor and 1 gigabyte of RAM. The calculation of DNA, movement, biochemistry, brain neurons, and much more at such low powers was performed just perfectly and did not freeze or crash, and was an interesting activity.
The other game I remember was Vangers. This is a game that was ahead of its time and was like a kind of prototype of GTA. Do you know what was special about this game? There was a completely destructible voxel world. I could dig the ground, I could leave explosion craters, complete story quests, and the world seemed alive. Mobs hunted me, I hunted mobs and artifacts, and the world was changing before our eyes, here the bridge was destroyed, there was already an open cache, and here I used a bomb to undermine the enemy and left a crater. Let me remind you once again that the fully resizable landscape worked on a 1.1 gigahertz processor and nothing was buggy. I gave these examples so that you understand what you can, in principle, expect from developers.
And what do we have now? We have a cool development tool from Niantic. Each of us has a device that is dozens of times more powerful than the devices on which I ran the digital DNA simulation, and yet our gameplay is poor and miserable. And he is poorer day by day.
2.This is what I see in my city. The second problem is that almost all intellectuals (of those I know) have left the game. All active players who had great hope that the game of simple drawing of triangles would become a truly great game, they left the game. They are bored, but instead of them there is a militant brotherhood of those who like idle mechanics, clickers and other idiocracy in the style of "press this button 100 more times and get + 100 points to the medal".
Ingress does not even have 1% percent of the thoughtfulness of the gameplay that chess has. Therefore, and to my great regret, all the smart players from our team began to play as rarely as I did. But we still hope and wait for change.
I can get behind being frustrated at the issues, and the way niantic is ignoring them, and the players. Fact is that because of this, players are leaving.
but you are advocating for game changes, whilst the most popular games on this earth have not changed anything for 10+ years and people are still competing and playing actively (cs: go, hots, etc).
this game is the way it is because of issues and niantic; no amount of gameplay changes will ever fix this. Because they are not actively resolving issues. They are too busy gathering scan data, building 3D assets nobody will ever see and overall just missing the boat with all their users. I mean the other games are not cancelled because they were bad games…
Let me explain my position with a concrete example. Let's take chess for example. Classic popular game. The rules are familiar to many players and you can learn how the pieces should move in just 1 evening. What's next? What is the difference between a beginner player and a grandmaster? And the fact that, despite the simple rules, a grandmaster studies chess theory, Knows all kinds of openings, middlegames and endgames. He knows how to combine all kinds of strategies, develops his own style of play, and, oddly enough, pumps the skills of intuition and understanding of the opponent even more than a professional poker player. But when both a beginner and a grandmaster gather at the same board, they play according to the same simple and understandable rules. And most importantly, in these rules there is no ambiguity and the possibility of cheating! Well, except perhaps you can quietly remove a piece from the board when the opponent is slightly dozing or distracted.
I would gladly give up my attempts to change the game if it moved to the level of chess or go. But for now, we get something incomprehensible, a mixture of badge collecting, tic-tac-toe, and game mechanics where one person with eight smartphones can get a significant advantage.
Oh yes, and most importantly. Modern ingress does not challenge. there is no way to become a grandmaster. And all the rewards in the game are either bought or can be obtained without the use of intellectual activity.
By the way, no one noticed a drop in activity, not only in the game but also on this forum? The vast majority of messages are created by the same active users.
The game is the same way, currently. A few players that care about the game aside from events doing some captures, or making some links/fields.
I myself play for captures at the moment. But the one and only RES agent just got his onyx badge, so he just plays outside my village “you can’t play if I don’t”, and it has made me play even less; and I don’t even care anymore. 🥲
Everyone I know, is inactive. The chats are dead, calls for recharge room for anomaly is met with no replies at all. The game is at it’s end, and niantic is watching it burn. They cannot revitalize this game to save their lives, because it should begin with resolving the issues that caused people to leave in the first place. But they don’t.
So start creating piles of topics about cheaters on the forum and demanding that Niantic start fighting them!
But that's not what you vote for! You don't care about that!
You propose to introduce a bunch of new **** into the game like long-range bombs and something else. Even more contaminate it with unnecessary elements. Because of people like you, whiners, Niantic has already spoiled it with links under the fields, allowing cheaters to spoil the OPS!
Chess has no idea, no plot, etc., but it's still popular for centuries. There's just a set of features with which you can fight your opponent one-on-one. If you put a 9th pawn in there, or add the ability for the king to move with the letter GE, or something like that, then chess becomes worse. But that's exactly what you'd want.
In Ingress has a "score" tab. In the game itself, in the scanner. What else do you want? Win a MU in your box and be happy. And the variations and strategies to win MU, even on the same portals a lot, and it will always be different action.
By the way, you asked who puts the anti-likes and why. I purposely put you everywhere "do not like," because I do not like your ideas :)
I've known you for a long time, and I know that you are not a team player, and that you haven't brought anything special to your faction. And I also know that for the same nonsense that you've made here, you've been banned in telegram chats. Now you're being treated negatively here as well.
Think about it. If they tell you everywhere that you're wrong, then maybe you're really wrong?
In Moscow, on the contrary, the game was very active, with new players coming and old ones coming back. Our team went up on the beacon anomalies, there were charge-rooms. People were buying stuff, medals, subscribing.
But it was the cheaters that ruined everything, not even the closing of Ingress, it was the cheaters.
Calmly, this agent is most likely from Russia. Please be understanding.
You know, you remind me of the Amish, who even in our modern age prefer to ride in horse-drawn carriages. They believe that the car is a misuse of human genius and should not be used. so are you against reasonable innovations in the game. Another thing, I note that there have been no reasonable innovations lately, I agree with you that connections cannot be made under the fields.
And let me remind you that ingress is not chess. If it were a complete game like chess, then yes, I and many of my acquaintances of agents would be satisfied and would gladly play this kind of masterpiece.
"Ах да, и самое главное. Современный ингресс не бросает вызов. нет возможности стать гроссмейстером. А все награды в игре либо покупаются, либо могут быть получены без применения интеллектуальной деятельности."
In chess there is an end - checkmate to the king. Ingress also has a cycle, whoever has the most MUs wins, the statistics are given in the scanner itself. Then a new cycle, a new game :)
Have you ever tried to become a grandmaster in Ingress? Have you tried to win the MU score in your cell? Have you counted the cutoffs? Have you counted how many MUs your faction needs to earn to win a cycle? Did you build those MUs?
Here's an archival screenshot, the heat of passion and emotion in one picture. Some of the agents were guarding the enemy, some were hitting cross-links, some were building fields, the score was right on every MU! We called everybody we could get our hands on, and we called everybody into the fields! At one o'clock in the morning, going to the DEPO? It's easy, we'll win! Here he is the heat of the moment, here's cool emotions from the game! :)
I dropped the team aspect of this game due to the opposition removing strategic portals and keeping their own, through cheats or not; I don’t really care.
that sort of play helps with the demise of ingress, writing letters to officials with false claims as an incentive to complain with niantic.
so I play solo, and can’t even do otherwise now because there are no teammates to play with.
Yes, once I held the lead and covered very specifically. I even had a teamleader nickname. And then I realized that when you have only 2-3 smurfs among your opponents, the vast majority of which are helicopters, it somehow became disgusting to play. And I'm not happy that i am don't need to use my brains to get this result. Generally not needed. To make a triangle after demolishing 2-3 key portals before this is not a very intellectual activity.
I agree with you about chess, but I disagree with you about gamemechanics in ingress. There are a lot of things to explore and discover. And yes, one player can create eight accs and get a massive advantage. But in a game like this, there are certain things that you cannot come around. The winning faction, (at least local) always has more gear, and use it more wisely, and distribuites it better. And even if you have eight accs, can you actually play the game like eight people? Have eight peoples minds, point of view, and create that bound, that makes wonders happend? No, for that it takes a team.
I know, because I’m playing against an agent who has at least had 30 accs in both factions. Now there are slightly less of them. But with an awsome team, gaining more knowledge, learning strategys, exploring gear. One can really do wonders.
@GreenVam You're right that Ingress isn't chess... or poker or backgammon, two of the games that I have significant expertise in.
Ingress is a lot more like a set of paints and brushes. The tutorial is like a paint-by-numbers kit that guides you through the steps to get specific results. After that you're on your own with a lot of paint and the whole planet as a canvas, but you have to figure out how you want to paint. Some people find that freedom exhilarating, and other people find it boring.
Understand, as long as cheaters have an advantage, we will lose. And so that there is no cheat advantage, the rules of the game should be based on the use of the mind, combinatorics and intelligence, and not on numerical superiority. So far, I can not defeat such a cheater in any way. Let's take chess as an example. Every move of a professional chess game is recorded, and thanks to this, it is impossible to cheat here. And we can use 1000 and one method for cheating. Are you savvy? And it's all thanks to Leaky and imperfect rules. If Niantic would ban accounts that 90% of the time only charge, or are only used to transfer items, then we would not have such problems. By the way, it would be possible to fight helicopters with the help of forced scanning of individual portals.
So, it's clear you didn't listen to anything I said.
Those games you love exist. They're still around. They are not Ingress. I agree that Ingress could expand in many aspects, but the core gameplay is "Going places and exploring". It's not a "Completely interactable game world" or a "GTA precursor" or any of the others.
It's an almost unique core gameplay and if you're up for suggesting ideas that work with that premise, I'm all for it. Shoving other game's concepts into it will destroy the core gameplay, and be a pale clone of those other gameplay systems. If you want those gameplay loops, those games are always there waiting.
Ingress can improve. It cannot improve by adding features of other games "because they're fun in that game". The ideas have to suit Ingress.
You don't understand why I wrote this. In those ancient times, I could play a full-fledged life simulator on minimal equipment that was not buggy and was a million times more difficult than an ingress map simulation. What now??? And now, having a device ten times more powerful, I am forced to play a game that is primitive both in terms of graphics and gameplay. Why is that? Pokémon is a collection of animal figurines with primitive battles. These figures do not move around the map, they do not interact with the world, they are not alive. Even on some kind of gameboy, I had to chase a Pokemon to catch it. And here, static interaction with figures that do not even look like living beings. So is our world in the game ingress. Points with triangles, nothing more. Or it could be an interactive adventure like what we see in the process of learning the basics of the game. But something is preventing it. We have the blackness of the surrounding space, lines in the style of Morse code, a lot of bugs and a world in which nothing changes except the color of portals, connections and fields. And all this is shamelessly buggy on an 8-core smartphone with 4 gigabytes of RAM!
What is wrong with humanity? Do we have an era of idiocr@cy? Some people, despite the development of technology, cannot make a complex, diverse and most importantly interesting game, while others could not play a complex, diverse and interesting game due to the lack of something? And here I do not mean a specific developer of games. I see this all over the mobile gaming industry.
Once again I will repeat. I, every time I enter the game, I know what will happen next. I know where and what portals the last living smurfs will capture, I know which portals I won't be able to destroy because of the bots, and so on. Playing in the last year can't surprise me. There are no goods in the store that I would like to buy, there are no players in the city with whom I can actively compete on a fair basis. The game is dying of stagnation. Can no one see this but me?
And I agree that ingress should develop in our unique style, not in the style of Pokemon Go or any other game.
I will support you with both hands! It's exactly what I want! I would be glad to play such a game, but not on anomalies, but every day. I want to know where and when the next invasion will take place, let it be a surprise!
Despiting having a device that is 1000x more powerful than the computing power of the Moon Lander, the whole point of Ingress is not to be sitting on a couch buried in your phone. Adding a ton more gameplay, like things such as the Fracker/Glyphing did, actually detracts from the game because it's more static and focused on the phone ignoring stuff around you.
They're not at a point where they can make use of the phone camera in effective details, but that would be the next major step for Ingress. The whole ethos of the game is incorporating 'gamification' into the real world. Not making yet another game where you stare at your phone inert and unmoving.
New ideas are good, but not all new ideas are worthwhile, or the direction for the game to go in. Utilizing the computing power of your phone to attract far more attention to the screen and not the world around you, is counter productive, so ideas need to emphasize movement, exploration, and teamwork.
What is wrong with humanity? Do we have an era of idiocr@cy?
One of the "big things wrong with modern society" is a recognized disconnection with the world outside your own head. Part of that is the reliance on always connected devices that draw your attention away from your surroundings. Adding a bunch more minigames or "inside the screen" features doesn't help your complaint any. It makes it more pronounced.

I used to enjoy winning MU cycles with my team.

How is that insulting? What is insulting is that you keep asking the same questions expecting different answers.
You insulted how other people play with your question. What are you actually expecting here? It's honestly annoying seeing the same loaded questions.
At this point, I'm reminded of https://m.xkcd.com/386/.

We played the score, and it was interesting.
Try it :)
We, too, the enemy team removed the anchor portals, we were looking for new ones :)
And we also removed their anchors, if we found such an opportunity :)))
That's great! :)
It would be very interesting to read reports about it :)
Well, no one bothers to raise this game to the level of chess or poker. There would be a desire from the developers.
As an example of "Ingress gameplay based ideas" I'll just refer yet again to Redfection.
Amused that I can't use the word s-u-c-k in a post without moderation.
