[Feature Request] - Wings on Event Badges!

EvilSuperHerosEvilSuperHeros ✭✭✭✭✭

Since we have Recursion, and many of us have done it (some more than others). How about having the ability to add Wings to the various event badges (going forward).

EOSImprint was 8,000 points for the top tier. I got 16,000+ points. I saw others with much more than that, 20k, 24, 32, even 54k! Why not add the ability to have wings on the badges? Obviously there are a subset of agents out there that do enjoy taking the challenges and going slightly overboard with going even further. Why not use a way that is already in place to let those agents show off their extra work?

@NianticBrian Penny for your thoughts?

I'd be into this... Maybe a different color wings, gold or silver maybe...

  • I like that idea, it's a dream never fullfilled

  • The answer I've gotten previously about this is that Wings is a visual effect based on stats. Points on this:

    • If someone's stats are private, you can't see their wings, because the client can't see the stats to generate them. (They can because they can see their stats.)
    • Event stats disappear after the event (eventually).
    • Keeping the stats permanently there, given the plan to keep running events, will result in a massive list at the bottom. Sort of like the massive badge panel.

So I think wings is beyond the client's implementation at the current time.

    That's curious.....

Also double onyx and there for wings can't be reached for event badges....

  • If there is a gold medal with wings, many players will want it, not just a subset. Gold with wings will become the new gold, gold will be the new silver, and silver will be the new bronze.

Also, it would not be accessible to non-recursed agents, or you would allow them to earn wings on event medals only.

@saarstahl I'm not sure why it not being available to non-recursed agents makes a difference. That's true of regular badges as well.

  • I thought it could be frustrating for lower-level players to make the effort to reach double-gold in a special event, and not be rewarded with the wings (or in the best case have to wait for the special event wings until they reach level 16 and recurse).

For the regular badges, you're so focussed to gain enough black badges to level up, you don't really care about the wings at that time.

From what I remember back in the Krug days, the tiers are set as the actual difficulty of the challenge. I know he made this very clear during the EXO5 Controller Challenge because the tiers were Bronze, Silver, and Gold of the Mind Controller badge - it seemed like a challenge was intentionally done around the game's 5th anniversary at the time.

He even provided the final percentages to the tiers:

I don't see having wings on the challenges as a plus. However, your account will always keep the value for every challenge you participated in, it's just the display of the value is hidden after the event ends. Anything is possible if they ever want to do something like a "bragging rights" trophy case for past challenges.

  • EXO5 was probably the odd one out for that though, due to the overwhelming requirement on it. A lot of people decided simply not to try for the top tier, and I think they knew that, thus the colouring of the 2nd tier.

I think if you did it again, you'd see a far different percentage at the top for almost any other challenge.

On the flip side, everyone would have wings on the Solstice Recharger. That threshold is trivially low.

  • Very true Hosette, I've already completed it 8 times just as a result of normal play. 5,000,000 would have been more reasonable given the time we have to do it.

  • Because this is not an "Event", tiered or otherwise. Niantic could have just given us the paid badge like last year, but they provided an opportunity for a trivial effort for people to get an alternate badge for free.

Don't compare Eos and the Solstice badges, they're not meant to be the same type of thing.

  • I just wish the effort was not so trivial, this was not low hanging fruit, it's laying on the ground getting stepped on.

Except this topic is talking about any event badge.

Yeah, but this one isn't a Tiered Event Badge, and therefore wings would absurd. Also it was mainly a comment moaning about the "easy badge".

  • MoogModularMoogModular ✭✭✭✭✭

It is an event, it's just it technically has one tier which is bronze. The wings wouldn't apply here.

  • EvilSuperHerosEvilSuperHeros ✭✭✭✭✭

Why not? Not our fault that Niantic/Ingress team didn't give us a decent amount for the event. Give us wings for those who want to **** for it. Let those who want to do the bare minimum do just that. Everyone still gets a badger. Those who put in extra effort gets a little extra. Just like the current wings we have on our other badgers.

  • MoogModularMoogModular ✭✭✭✭✭

Because Niantic has coded one badge events as bronze...seriously, get a grip if you want to provide reasons.

  • BreenzyBreenzy ✭✭✭

Putting in extra effort gets you top tier for challenging events. Not every badge needs to be difficult, plus it adds more difficulty to balancing.
