    Wish, granted

  • Thanks

  • Well, I can't submit scans (my phone's too obscure to be ARCore verified) and I don't have a car to go around making big fields/links, so it looks like I'll be out looking for easy captures to get this one.

"1 point for each Glyph pattern correctly drawn"

Is a "pattern" each individual glyph here? Or a whole correct sequence? Or will it turn out just to be counting Translator points?

It kinda looks an event designed especially for scanning (unless you have plenty of 50k+ MU accesible fields in your area, implying that you will not be surrounded by useless 1km links). I will try to get it anyway.

Yeah, I'm not holding my breath on getting bronze. If I can't get the bottom tier in a few hours of dedicated play, it's not happening.

  • I second the question. If someone correctly draws a L8 sequence, how many points will they earn? 1 or 5?

Question about Scans: if we do X portal scans right now and then upload them when the event begins, will we earn 16*X points? If so, are you already expecting a huge increase, and a peak, in uploaded portal scans?

I interpreted this as per individual glyph. Glyph pattern = 1 glyph, glyph sequence = N glyphs. So, in absence of any other points scored I think this is 1600 perfect P8 hacks.

i will just glyph hack and cap portals and even with that im not sure if that will be enough to just unlock the bronze tier... the numbers are not balanced, feel scan portals give too much points and glyph hack and cap portals almost nothing where the last u need go out to get points yet so low...

  • Man, the amount of points needed versus the amount you earn for each action seem off.

    400 scans max per week...

Only 4 points for a capture...

Aside from portal-scanning having brain-dead levels of fun, the shear amount needed for the badge is off-putting.

Hopefully they'll adjust these to be more balanced and fair.

Niantic needs scans, they need you to work harder for their database...

  • It seems you need to be unemployed to get a decent amount of points, 50k fields are not doable in my township, i live in a farm invested area so of i field my whole township it will give me about 15k per field with links around 60km….So for us in Holland it wil become a dayjob for 10 day’s to get enough points with the rest. It also seems Nia is trying to do more and more to get portals scanned…with this treshold they will probably get very much ground scans of agents just walking away from the portal to the next…

problem is scanning is super boring thing u can do

How about 1 pt/2000 MU, including fractions, with a cap of 25/field?

  • ZeroHecksGivenZeroHecksGiven ✭✭✭✭✭

I agree, 100%. My point is that scanning is valuable to Niantic. We are working for them, we are making their product more valuable to them for future games. They are attempting to entice agents to do this work for them, especially agents who live in rural areas where it becomes their only option to obtain the gold tier of this medal....

Should it be 25 points per 50k MU?

I feel like other actions could have been included in this as well.

Per 50k MU is still out of reach for an awful lot of players, just in the largest city in New Zealand.

  • To get an idea on how possible it is to reach bronze status, most of the stats are there in the scanner to calculate. Some assumptions would have to be made based on MU fields and link length, but it would give an idea if a week's worth of playing would get suffice.

  • I might hold the second highest number of 50k Fields in Scandinavia (6k+)

And by fielding alone, I would probably not get halfway to bronze, just to put it into perspective.

  • Would it be nice if this event to have an 2xAP in any action (field, capture, scan)

And how about completed mission (specs ops) for those who love to do the banners 😊

Scanning may be valuable to Niantic but it contributes nothing of interest to Ingress gameplay.

Capping plus glyphing seems like an easy enough path if you're in an area with a lot of portals. 50K fields are going to be rough for most people and it takes 320 of them to get gold. I'm ignoring scans. 1K links can contribute some points but it takes nearly 900 of them to get gold and it's hard to imagine most people getting more than a few dozen. 1600 five-glyph sequences or 2000 four-glyph sequences is a lot... burning out three P6/P7 RMH portals three times a day for ten days would get you halfway there.

On the other hand, capping might get much more challenging when everyone is chasing the same caps.

Funny thing. Building up the portal network -- submitting portals, photos, etc. -- was, and still is, also working for Niantic. But we got something out of it: permanent(-ish) changes to the game board that we could point at and take pride in.

One might think that something similar might work for portal scans. But sure, Niantic can double down on nothing but stats and medals. The definition of good sense is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result, yah?

  • We don't even get to see the 3D rendering that they touted when scanning was first announced.
