Can we finally have some UNLIMITED kits?
What's up with all these Limited®©™ Edition®©™ kits? Why do you limit your revenue? Can we have some unlimited option for physical packs, or at the very least limited by date up until which you can order one, but not BY AMOUNT?...

i agree, a faction res/enl t-shirt should not be that limited.
Or sell the Digital content. Not all of us care about the physical gear. My 3 years old kid found my kit and destroy it 😂
I don't think the shirt was actually available to order as of yet.
Because obviously, when you buy in bulk, it drives the prices up, no wait...that doesn't sound right...
And how does this justify limiting anything? Let people buy whatever many they want.
Niantic knows there is a demand from past pre-orders. However, it seems that they do not acknowledge the amount of agents who want to buy it.
Given that this is an item to celebrate Ingress year X, it's obvious that there will be a huge demand for agents to purchase it as a pre-order so why will you limit your player base in purchasing it? Not to mention it's know that Niantic hates those resellers of official swag in black markets and yet you are doing this limited edition thing to drive black markets sales for this kind of swag.
If fulfillment is an issue, a later fulfillment date can be done for the second batch to ease the logistics issue. (Or get more manpower to handle the production)
It's a Win-win situation: More sales is generated to Niantic/Ingress to support their game and future products on the other more agents will be able to get the swag.
It's specifically for Ingress X. I agree more sets should have been available.
I also don't believe they have thousands of old sets still waiting to be used - I forget what the number of packs were in the past with anomalies when ordering but they usually were fulfilled. If they're dealing with a mass inventory of past items, sell them! It's nuts to keep them for future packs when they are always limited.
Im sure it will sell out in minutes 🤪
historically speaking, you’re probably not wrong, lol
Because John Hanke seems to think that we treat bio-cards like his grandad's baseball cards. And will buy and sell them amongst ourselves... somehow.
There is no reason for scarcity at time of production, because there's no resale market. It's literally just restricting their own sales for the sake of one man's elitist ideas.
I don’t care if I cannot obtain these physical kits, however I want to obtain the Digital contents of these kits.
I want my Toast items.
Assuming each agent buys 2 to get the free shipping, only 600 agents will be able to purchase the pack. (assuming 1200 packs as quota)
Unlike the other previous packs, Niantic decided to add an element of gambling involve where a limited amount of agents will get a very rare/rare version of the card. Hence, it's obvious more agents will buy multiple packs to get a better chance in getting a very rare limited edition character card from the pack. (Think of it like any trading card game like Magic the gathering or Pokemon trading card game for example)
If they are planning to sell during a pre-order and get the coins to as many individual agents, they should have limited it to 1 pack per agent to ensure all agents will be able to get the Year X coin. Subsequent additional packs can sold in the official release months where other agents can purchase additional packs should they choose to do so.
Let's think about Niantic's incentive for doing it this way. What were they optimizing for?
Were they optimizing for customer satisfaction? There were a bunch of people with their wallets open waving them at Niantic and those people are definitely unhappy. Are the people who succeeded in buying kits happier because a bunch of people got shut out? Maybe a tiny bit because they feel smart/lucky, but not enough to make up for the unhappy agents. Niantic is clearly not maximizing customer satisfaction.
Are the maximizing profits? Well, let's see. They sold X kits at $Y dollars. If they'd sold X kits at $Y dollars and Z kits at $y dollars they would have more money/profit than if they only sold X kits at $Y dollars. Assuming their profit is above zero and the sales effort scaled linearly or better they would have made more money by selling more kits.
So... I'm puzzled. In what way was doing it this way better for Niantic? It's clearly not better for their customers, and not better for their bottom line unless they're losing money on each kit. Anyone have any ideas?
But we do treat them that way and trade internationally :)
I'm happy I got kits. Set alarm and got onto site right away.
Part of me is relieved/happy its limited, however on balance I'm more unhappy that a ton of people couldn't get kits.
That said. I kind of disagree with kit sales in general. I'd much prefer they were sold at anomaly sites as part of registration but hey, covid blah blah.
Prefer store sold gloves, battery packs, ingress brollies, clothing etc.
The store used to sell Ankers. Shirts are completely shown.
I know. :)
The 'market' is tiny and is all bout the code, not the card, for the vast majority of those value trades. Cards with redeemed codes are a tiny fraction of the value of the unredeemed codes.
The value is in the game, not the physical item, for all but a small segment of devoted swag-heads.
@Perringaiden That makes me wonder how much cash I'm sitting on right now since I have a bunch of cards with unredeemed character codes. I'm not really interested in getting rid of them right now, but I'm curious. It looks like there's a 2016 Hank Johnson on eBay for about $200.
That 'pile of cash' (which I have too) is rapidly dwindling in value as the game does, but yes, the unredeemed in-game codes are worth quite a bit. Because the value is in the code, not the card.
Well - there are official Ingress card trades / with or without codes. (Yes - people will trade cards with code already redeemed just to get the card).
Then there is the massive trade of fan made Biocards. I think my wife and I have over a thousand of these, traded globally.
I think this was Niantic office? And that's a tiny selection.
There are several swag trading chats.
I tend to give ours away as prizes or rewards to people to encourage the community. Usually I buy 2 for wife and I and then a third for prize use.
The value is also declining as many are now being sold from in game store. (Like Klue was once up around $1000 on Ebay).

I'm talking about resale value. Not the desire to collect them all by swapping cards like you did on the school playground. Hard cash sales, like $300 for a Jahan card.
People with too much spare cash you mean :) Would never pay that. Maybe $50 tops for a really rare one.
I would have liked the chance to purchase the kits. A 30min window is not fun.
